  • Visions of the future?

I write the following knowing full well that I might be seen as some paranoid crazy guy but bear with me.

Just so you know, I am not trying to claim I have some sort of super power and this is a genuine thread.

When I was a kid I used to have dreams in my sleep. Then perhaps a few days later or even a week or more later, what I dreamed would become a reality. These were very little things, not proper visions and not specific, infact very vague.

So at a point in time when I am doing a specific action I got this sensation in my mind that I had already pictured doing this exact action at this exact time, even though I had never done such an action before.

I don't know if I had dreamt of these actions while I was asleep or through daydreaming or whatever....But I did get some feeling that I had predicted this exact situation some time before.

Now I know for a fact that I am not alone in this. My friend brought it up in a conversation and he said the same things as well as some other friends.

This only happened when I was a child though, never had any such experiences since.

So I am wondering, is this phenomenon common? Is there a scientific explanation for this? Have there been studies on this? Have you ever felt such sensations?

I apologise if that was hard to understand, I myself find it hard to convey what I am trying to say into words.

not predicting future or anything like it but constantly feeling something a bit more than deja vu. extremely vivid dreams. sometimes when you are barely awake you realize that there are these words that are rushing through your mind some of which you have never heard before. as if you are narrating a story of some sort.
if we could create our future in dreams then i should be a solider in vietnam. o yeah, that was the past, not future..

Yeah, I don't believe that we actually predict the future. I think it is more to do with our state of mind at the time of the action.

Our mind may be playing tricks on us by falsely giving the sensation that we had dreamt of this situation before.

I think this is the most credible explanation.

This phenomenon is called precognitive dreaming or Extra Sensory Perception (ESP).
There are some crazy paranormal theories out there which I dismiss as nonsense but I am too tired to research it properly right now.

i had a dream in which i could remember that there was a warning but not what the warning was about. at the time i was living out in the wilderness in a small hut. in the afternoon i opened a drawer and was about to put my hand in, suddenly stopped and remembered that there had been a warning and i knew there was danger. i carefully shifted objects and there were 2 huge centipedes about 18cms long, that would have caused me a lot of pain and even illness if they had been able to bite me.
