      Excellent post catya.

Girls listen to wise words of catya.

In our villages women are slim and smart because they do house chores.

But i know the problem of city folk ,they spend their time on watching tv or sitting to computer , eat a lot but doing nothing, getting fat is obvious.

If house chores make you slim, I would have been among the slimmest. Being fit is one thing, being slim is another. And being fat is out of the (this) picture.

The threads purpose isn't to stir assumptions and generalisations.

I love what DJZ posted. I wear those pants, with a baggy hoodie or sweatshirt. You can easily tie your hair back, and wear those under hijab things (I don't know the name of them) and pull the hoodie up. It stays in place unless you're on the treadmill, then at that point you can swear a hijab african style. I can't go to the gym without wearing a sweatshirt, it just doesn't feel right. Plus, this sounds gross, I know but you sweat more and that equals losing more calories.

I honestly, wouldn't do that dress thing because the first thing I would do in that is fall flat on my face. I wouldn't be able to coordinate the elliptical well and again either fall on my face or back, or I'll just pull the dress up and that won't solve any of my problems.

Outdoor sports are fun as Satya said, but there's hardly any time for that. After working a full 9 hour day, not to mention being stuck in traffic for 30-45 minutes each way, the last thing you have time for is to plan an outdoor activity. Plus those activities are fun when done in pairs and its so hard to find someone to do that with. Unless you love running, you're pretty much better off going to the gym.

Or you can do those videos at home. Check out P90X, Mahzala, you might like it. The trainer is annoying, but his stuff really works.
"Do not lose hope in adversity and complain that God singled you out for punishment, remitting others guilty of worse sins. Your present state could very well be His intent to elevate your spiritual station. Or He could just be testing your faith. Everyday that you persevere, you grow closer to perfection. Thus, your present despair may be the beginning of an infinite blessing". - Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani.

I think Luffy is basically on target here.
                  Fit means muscles are in good tone because of ;
                  USING THEM!

So, heavier work might be needed.

Plus all my life, I have run EVERYWHERE. When I was in college, I ran to every class. I was always in a hurry, as well as wanted the exercise.
Certainly one can run anywhere on any downtown street in the world.
[That way pickpockets cannot get you if you're in New York City!]

The lifestyle of most Americans and others is one of sedentariness interspersed with frenetic attempts at gym programs, which are usually abandoned because that's also the modern way. Pick up projects; drop them; pick up more, make resolutions; go lax on them.

To give an example, the French live completely differently, and always have.
Why are the women slender and naturally without "dieting" ?
They know better how to live.
Americans, who set the trends for most of the world today, simply don't!
It's not a characteristic of this society which then is emulated many places.

I prefer the Mediterranean way which is more relaxed, spending time with people not machines and objects, and appreciating history, beauty, architecture, grace, style.

I think the gym is the epitome of modern America's attempt to correct for all the over-eatings, laziness brought on by having too many things available too easily, not needing to go out and get things the traditional way, as in villages as Luffy says.
While we don't need to go back to carrying water in, still there are so many creative chores that can be done outside no matter what temperature which make the system do what artificial exercise does: heart rate go up, circulation improve, etc.

I think people get brainwashed because gyms are ALL they see as an alternative.

I contend that gyms are about the unhealthiest places one could find. Germs spread easily there from person to person and one is subjected to the THOUGHTS of all sort of varied people who do not share one's outlook to say it nicely !

So maybe get a congenial group of women together to do some NATURAL exercise, is another thought.

But not in the rather toxic setting of a Gold's Gym or whatever chain gym happens to be near and seeming to beckon. I see that as a place that would not suit a nice Muslim woman, personally.

What an excellent comment, Catya Jaan! I mean, ANYTHING that works for you must work for every other woman in the world, no matter who she is, where she lives, what she does, how old she is, what her situation is or what her circumstances are, what she believes, and so on, because she's not a complete or full woman unless she looks and acts and thinks and does everything just like you. Makes perfect sense to me! :|

There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

I have even observed perverts who are especially focused on hijabi women. Some guys are fascinated by beautiful eyes of niqab-posh girls. What should be done of such kind of prying eyes?

^Come to peshawer, here you will find pashtuns staring at passing by women as if they are doing x-rays of them. Some even pass comments, some chase after girls.

Here in abbotabad hindkowans dont stare at or tease women, the ones with prying eyes are usually pashtuns.

Muslim women need to work more, need to exercise more..at 18 shes fireing..at 22 shes retiring..whats the point looking good UNTIL your married and then you end up with rolls and looking like a donut, if anything you should look better for your partner and look more better after your married.

i go to a mixed gym iv been a personal trainer and i can honestly tell you (from a mainstreem gyms in UK such as golds gym, virgin active, fitness first) that thers so many women dress more or less naked with make up on(strange yes), all you have to do is dress 'average' to be ignored by the desperado pervs.. average being a long t-shirt to cover ur ass and joggers, and maybe a bandana to cover your hair if you usually wear a scarf with no make up on and you will be like a ghost

if your still uncomfortable with going gym then like suggested women only gym or women only day gyms

example where i live in hayes we have a swimming pool where on Wednesdays its women only swimming and staff are all women aswell.

More than a personal approach, the thread was intended to get an idea of existing ways of balancing the two, both important aspects of a woman's life - maintaining a healthy lifestyle and protecting her haya. I appreciate the suggestions (definitely worth considering for future) and the positive responses coming in especially from our male members. I least expected your views in this thread. Quite enlightening, and a relief to see some differences. Personally, I think the idea of wearing hijaab in a place as such doesn't attract stares for any other matter as much as it does for the fact that it is quite strange to see hijaabi women in mixed gyms (I speak for my area). It is rare and so the approaches and expectations are always different, and at times demeaning. I don't enjoy the atmosphere of gyms to be honest. I guess it happens, when you haven't seen too much outside your own delicate shell. For those of you, though, who are at it, and have a routine, keep at it. It should be very rewarding at the very least. Some areas are better than others. For those who have it, make use of it. On my side, for now, the heat works wonders.
