Ties with Israel would be ‘political suicide’ for BNP, says Palestine envoy

Palestinian Charge d’Affaires in Dhaka Yousuf S Ramadan

Palestinian Charge d’Affaires in Dhaka Yousuf S Ramadan has said ties with Israel will be a ‘political suicide’ for any Bangladeshi party, as allegations of such links involving BNP have surfaced

Ramadan was speaking at a programme in the embassy on Saturday to mark Palestine’s Nakba Day in commemoration of the displacement that preceded and followed the Israeli declaration of independence in 1948.

Bangladesh, in support of Palestine, has not recognised Israel as a state.

It will be a ‘political suicide’ if any Bangladeshi individual or party builds up ties with any Israeli politician, party or intelligence agency, Ramadan said.

Awami League leaders have alleged BNP is out to topple the government using Israeli intelligence agency Mossad after a BNP leader met an Israeli politician in India.

The BNP leader, Joint Secretary General Aslam Chowdhury, says he did meet the Israeli politician but did not know about his identity.

Ramadan said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and another leader came to him after reports on the meeting was published with a group photo that includes Aslam and the Israeli politician.

Mirza Fakhrul told Ramadan that his party has no relations with Mossad and did not know about the meeting, the Palestinian envoy said.

He said he asked the BNP leaders to be more careful because the people of Bangladesh will not accept any such link with Israel.

“The BNP supporters will deny the party support if such incidents happen,” he said.

He hoped discussions on the issue will not be repeated.

He also praised the government for its stance against Israel.

The BNP stands for Bangladeshi Nationalist Party.

It is a pro-Pakistan party allied with the fundamentalist Jamaat e Islami.

It traditionally had a lot of influence over the Saudis who seem to have distanced themselves from them.

The picture above has caused controversy in Bangladesh as the senior BNP official met with a senior Israeli official.

The Israeli official, Mendi Safadi, is on the left.

He is not Jewish but an Arab, a Druze.

I personally do not think the BNP-Jamaat nexus are planning to use the Israelis to topple the Bangladeshi government, however this is a very unwise act by them to be seen with Israeli officials.

Safadi with his boss, Benjamin Netanyahu.

The ruling Awami League has very strong links with the Palestinians partly as a result of pan-socialist, pan-third world solidarity.

Yasser Arafat second from left, Hasina on far right.

    Arafat in Bangladesh.

The Israelis approached the head of Bangladesh after independence, Mujib, for recognition by Bangladesh but Mujib refused.

The BNP are known to be Pakistani agents who take money from the ISI and work with extremists, fundamentalists, terrorists and war criminals.

Recently their masters, Pakistan, tried to promote their political interests in a meeting of the Commonwealth but failed.

The Commonwealth ministerial group has shot down a Pakistan proposal to discuss Bangladesh’s situation in favour of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Pakistan raised the Bangladesh issue at the recent Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group’s (CMAG) meeting in London. The move was “rejected” by the other member states, a highly-placed diplomatic source told bdnews24.com.

The Pakistani regime official who tried to promote the BNP agenda was a "Pathan" (Punjabized "Pashtun"), Sartaj Aziz.

"Pathan", trouble maker and Pakistan-wala, the foreign affairs advisor to Pakistani leader, Sartaj Aziz, who has been trying to undermine the Bangladeshi government and interfere in internal Bangladeshi affairs.

If they are now in touch with the Israelis this is a new low for both the BNP and their ally, Jamaat e Islami.
