  • A letter to the Bangladeshi military

I just sent this off now. It bounced back, but my intention was for them to read it and it is now here on this thread, thus an open letter.

As someone from Bangladesh I would like to write a letter of protest to the Bangladeshi Armed Forces on their failure to alleviate or end the suffering of Rohingyas on the other side of our border.

These people are indigenous to this area prior to the British giving Arakan to the Burmese state. Many of them though indigenous are ethnically Bengali and physically indistinguishable. Others have foreign blood and are different. They speak a version of the Bengali dialect found in Chittagong.

We share the same religion, language, blood and other things and yet the Bangladeshi government and armed forces have abandoned them.

In the constitution of Bangladesh just before part III it states that Bangladesh is committed to:

    (c) support oppressed peoples throughout the world waging a just struggle against imperialism, colonialism or racialism."

The Bangladeshi military's refusal to work with friendly allies such as Saudi Arabia and Turkey to help protect the Rohingya people from mass murder and ethnic cleansing is I believe an act whereby the armed forces neglect this constitutional duty, if not a violation of the constitution itself.

Bangladeshi leaders of the past such as Mujib and Zia and Ershad, the latter two whom were both heads of our respected military, pursued a robust policy against the genocidal Burmese regime.

We are a country built on a struggle to end racism and to stop genocide. Our military and government now seem to be indifferent to a people on our very doorstep who are now going through the same struggle as we did in 1971.

The Bangladeshi government and armed forces need to carry out the same policies that Mujib, Zia and Ershad did.

If the armed forces are indifferent to the genocide of the Rohingya people, they will be accountable to Allah on the day of judgement.

They must work with our allies, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and others in ensuring the Rohingya people are militarily able to defend themselves from the onslaught taking place against them in the same way that China and Thailand too aid ethnic groups in Burma without suffering any economic loss, as both two states are awarded lucrative business deals by the Burmese junta even now, fully aware they cannot harm these two states despite their open backing of guerilla groups in Burma.

Men, women and children in Arakan are crying and dying. Civilians are drowning in the Indian Ocean. There is a genocide.

History, the world and the Muslim ummah will not forget that the Bangladeshi military did nothing and let these people and children die.

May Allah support you if you decide to fulfill your constitutional, moral, religious and patriotic duties to work with our allies to help the Rohingya people.

    BANGLADESH ZINDABAD.

Below is a photoshot of my email. By the way the Bangladeshi authorities do not take kindly to such sort of activities and I would almost certainly be blacklisted on NSI and DGFI records (NSI = National Security Intelligence, and DGFI = Directorate General of Forces Intelligence). However all I am doing is merely expressing my democratic right as a citizen for the military to carry out their responsibilities.

Head of the Bangladeshi military, Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan.

Rohingya child on the left and head of the anti-Rohingya Awami League currently ruling Bangladesh on the right, Hasina Wajid.

There are reports in the past that Turkey had assured full co-operation with Bangladesh in any military operation to help the Rohingyas.

Saudi military, in 1991 Saudi Arabia was reported to be ready to send major military forces in a possible Bangladesh v Burma war.

    Rohingyas facing genocide.

The Dalai Lama: Aung San Suu Kyi must speak out on behalf of Myanmar’s persecuted Rohingya

The Dalai Lama, leader of the Tibetan Buddhist faith, gave an interview to The Australian on May 28. In it, he appeals to Myanmar’s world-famous Nobel Peace Prize laureate and democracy advocate Aung San Suu Kyi to speak out against a horrific violation of human rights rippling outward from her country: the unceasing persecution of the Rohingya, a predominantly Muslim minority group.

The Rohingya are a stateless people residing in western Myanmar, along the country’s border with Bangladesh. Though they have lived in the area for centuries, the Rohingya are considered illegal immigrants by the Myanmar government, and are subsequently denied basic rights. Many have been corralled into concentration camps where access to food, clean water, healthcare, and employment is scarce.

The Rohingya have garnered global attention of late, as thousands of refugees flood into neighboring Bangladesh. Others have taken to the sea, risking a perilous ocean voyage in order to seek safe haven in other parts of Southeast Asia. The crisis has reached an “alarming level,” Thailand’s foreign minister said on May 29.

Despite international outcry, Myanmar’s most visible freedom fighter remains silent. “It’s very sad. In the Burmese case I hope Aung San Suu Kyi, as a Nobel laureate, can do something,” the Dalai Lama told The Australian. “I met her two times, first in London and then the Czech Republ*ic. I mentioned about this problem and she told me she found some difficulties, that things were not simple but very complicated.”

“But in spite of that I feel she can do something,” he added.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa has also expressed concerns over her silence. In contrast, Nobel laureates Jose Ramos-Horta, the former president of East Timor, and Iranian human-rights activist Shirin Ebadi, have taken up the cause. George Soros, himself a one-time refugee from Nazi-occupied Hungary, said he observed “alarming parallels” between the persecution Europe’s Jews during World War II and the that of the Rohingya today.

The Dalai Lama has condemned the genocide of the Rohingyas.

    Desmond Tutu against the genocide.

    Shirin Ebadi condemned the genocide.

Jose Ramos Horta has also condemned the Burmese genocide against the Rohingyas.

But Aung San Suu Kyi’s supporters say the “Iron Lotus” is simply biding her time. With a general election just around the corner, Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy is poised to take a considerable number of seats in Myanmar’s legislature. Given how widespread anti-Rohingya sentiments are among the voting population, it’s possible she is sidestepping the issue for the moment to maintain electability. Some speculate she will address persecution of the Rohingya in the event her party wins a majority.
However, Myanmar’s current constitution forbids her from taking the office of president. The country’s parliamentary speaker, Shwe Mann, has effectively ruled out the possibility of a constitutional referendum prior to 2015 elections. What’s more, Suu Kyi has openly denied any presidential ambitions: “Being president is not my dream,” she said in Jan. 2015, according to the BBC. (Though many remain skeptical.) These realities render her silence on the Rohingya issue quite puzzling, and not a little bit troubling.

    - The Hasina Wajid regime has still not issued any major declaration of sympathy or support for the Rohingyas.

This is because Hasina Wajid and her Awami League hate Rohingyas.

The hatred is for many different reasons. One reason is a general apathy for anyone from Bangladeshi officialdom towards the suffering of ordinary citizens, another is that they, the Rohingyas, are quite religious.

Hasina Wajid, her regime is deeply anti-Rohingya and seems to be indifferent to their genocide.

Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan, the head of the Bangladeshi army, who is by marriage related to a senior Awami league figure. History may judge him as a failure who cold-heartedly did nothing to support the suffering Rohingya.

Imran Khan writes to United Nations over persecutions of Muslims in Myanmar

            Pakistan Top Stories

Imran Khan writes to United Nations over persecutions of Muslims in Myanmar |TheNewsTribe.com

ISLAMABAD – The chairman of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf writes a letter to the secretary general of United Nations, Ban ki-moon to take notice of muslim killings in Myanmar.

According to the media reports, Imran Khan urges Ban ki-moon to take immediate steps to stop muslim persecution.

Imran khan siad this brutality against muslim minority in Myanmar is condemnable.

“The Secretary General has to ensure the credibility of the UN in times of crises and war”, he stated.

“I call on you to immediately exercise this responsibility to prevent the genocide of the Muslims in Myanmar”, he asked.

            - Well done to Imran Khan!

            Honourable Ban Ki-moon
            Secretary General, United Nations
            UN HQ; New York City
            NY 10017; USA 3rd June 2015

            Sir,
On behalf of myself and my party Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, I wish to state that we have found the silence and complete inaction by the UN on the continuing plight and persecution of the Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar a shameful testament to the failure of the UN to fulfill its basic principles of upholding human rights and protecting a people from genocide. The principle of Humanitarian Intervention was specifically added to the UN mandate in the face of the Rwandan genocide but the UN has once again failed to protect a people from persecution and genocide: this time the Rohingyas of Myanmar.

In the past three years, more than 120,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled abroad under desperate circumstances and conditions. Even today the Rohingyas have been abandoned on the high seas with no humanitarian assistance forthcoming. The ASEAN meeting, held on 29 May 2015, to discuss the Rohingyas plight, did little to resolve the issue and, even in terms of aid and assistance, the final statement effectively reflected proposals and recommendations with no mechanism for ensuring implementation.

It has been heartbreaking to witness the silence of the UN and the international community on the persecution of the Rohingyas in Myanmar since the 1970s. The hypocrisy prevalent within the international community on human rights and humanitarian interventions has been acutely evident as the Rohingya crisis has unfolded. Those who sought to give the UN the Right to Humanitarian Intervention have been the most reluctant to exercise this Right now that it has been established within the UNO. It is the duty of the UN, and yourself as its Secretary General, to ensure the safety of refugees and protection of people from persecution.

I call on you, as the Secretary General to move the UNSC to end the persecution and genocide of Rohingyas within Myanmar and to bring to an end their inhumane plight on the high seas, under Chapter VII of the UN Charter. After all, the Rohingya crisis is as clear a threat to international peace and security as any, in the expanded notion of security now adopted internationally – which goes beyond mere conventional wars. Global security is indivisible and the international community cannot be secure while in one part of the world persecution and genocide of a people in going on with impunity. It is time for the UN to act decisively or forever lose its relevancy as a global body reflecting the will of the people with which the Preamble of the UN Charter begins. It is time to live up to that commitment on which the UNO was founded – in the aftermath of a global appeasement to the genocide of another people in Europe.

            Imran Khan

            Chairman

            Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf

120,000 Rohingyas have fled abroad in the past 3 years.

0.1 million people out of a Rohingya population of maybe 0.8 million.

If it was 120,000 Palestinians that fled Gaza the whole world and the whole "Islamic world" would be in an uproar, but since it's only Rohingyas it "doesn't matter".

                Bangladesh summons Myanmar ambassador

                Senior Correspondent, bdnews24.com

Bangladesh has summoned Myanmar’s ambassador in Dhaka over a Rakhine state minister’s comment at a Naypyidaw diplomatic briefing.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Ambassador Myo Myint Than on Friday afternoon.

The ministry did not issue any statement, but bdnews24.com diplomatic correspondent Nurul Islam Hasib saw the ambassador entering the office of Additional Secretary Mizanur Rahman after 3pm.

He came out half an hour later. The additional secretary did not make any comment, when approached.

Sources, however, confirmed to bdnews24.com that he was summoned.

He was summoned as “a Rakhine minister out of the context in a diplomatic briefing at Naypyidaw said Bangladesh’s poor socio-economic conditions forcing people to migrate illegally,” said a source privy to the matter.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Myanmar Sufiur Rahman was present at that briefing organised for foreign diplomats based in Myanmar.

Dhaka considered this comment as “derogatory”, and contradictory to neighbourly attitude.

The foreign ministry has conveyed to the ambassador that such comment can jeopardise coordinated efforts that Bangladesh and Myanmar want to make to bring an end to the migration crisis.

Refugee issue is the main irritant between Bangladesh and Myanmar relations as Naypyidaw does not recognise Rohyngya as their citizens.

Bangladesh sheltered thousands of them fleeing sectarian violence at home, Rakhine state.

But Bangladesh opted to work closely with Myanmar to solve this crisis particularly after the influx of thousands of Burmese and Bangladeshis in the Indian Ocean by boat.

Officials say Bangladesh has agreed to take back its nationals earlier found abroad the ship in Myanmar waters.

The process will begin after June 8, a foreign ministry official told bdnews24.com. The number would be around 150.

                  This is more like it!

                  1. Burma is a state run by a fascist military.

However it is a weak state which does not control a large part of its territory.

It is akin to the Assad regime and Syria where Assad does not rule large parts of Syria.

                  2. Many on the internet are questioning whether Rohingyas are Burmese. This is nonsense they are indigenous to the soil and even if they weren't, they've been longer there than Israelis have been in Israel or white Australians have been in Australia.

Also the Burmese don't like any non-Bamar ethnic group and also persecute Christians.

                  66 Churches burnt in Burma.

                  link

Burmese troops kill, rape Christians, burn churches.

                  link

                  3. The Burmese army are bullies, and like all bullies they see niceness as "weakness", and they see harshness as strength.

The Bangladeshi government needs to be harsh with them.

                  4. The Bangladeshi government is fixated with the concept of land connectivity to China via Burma, but

a: This should not be done at the expense of abandoning Rohingyas who are in a worse situation than the Gazans, with 0.1 million Rohingyas already having fled Burma.

b: Even if they were extremely nice to Burma for the next 2-3 years there is no guarantee that there will be a land connection to China as the land routes to China are controlled by rebel groups.

                  Gaza.

Rohingyas in Arakan, 0.1 million have fled.

                  5. Bangladesh should work with its OIC allies such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia and do things such as synchronize the summoning of Burmese ambassadors on the same day so that in all 4 countries the Burmese ambassadors are summoned and warned.

a: To stop the persecution of Rohingyas and their repatriation.
b: To reinstate their citizenship which they had before 1982.
                  * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

                  Shukran ya Masr!!!
