Bangladesh will officially mourn Saudi Arabia's late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz on Saturday.

President Md Abdul Hamid will fly to Riyadh on the same day to offer state condolences, Cabinet Secretary Md Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said on Friday.

The national flag will fly at half-mast at government, semi-government and private offices and educational institutions during the state mourning.

Special prayers will be held for the late king but offices and educational institutions will function normally, Bhuiyan added.

King Abdullah, 90, who ruled the world's biggest crude oil exporter for nearly a decade, died early on Friday, said an official announcement. He had been hospitalised since Dec 31 with lung infection.

Abdullah, who became the king in 2005 following the death of his half-brother King Fahd, had suffered frequent bouts of ill health in recent years.

After his death, Abdullah's half-brother Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, 79, has ascended to the throne.

President Hamid, in a message, expressed his “deepest condolences” at his death.

“It is, indeed, an irreparable loss for the Royal family, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Muslim Ummah and the whole world,” he said.

He recalled the “graciousness” of King Abdullah towards Bangladesh and its workers in the kingdom.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a separate condolence message said Bangladesh had lost “one of her great caring brothers and generous well-wishers”.

Its politics. Whether we like it or not, Saudi Arabia is quite rich and powerful. So basically it is a good opportunity to score some point. It costs nothing, and needs no effort to pretend to mourn their death. Even USA who call itself the country of ''justice'', ''brave'' etc. practically worship the saudis, despite its human right violation. It doesn't mean they actually likes them or mourn them, but rather some fake tears to get some free points from a power holder in the middle east.
Don't quote me or speak to me if you hate Afghanistan, you be ignored.

People with identity crisis will be ignored as well.

The leaders of poor muslim countries mourrn the death of rich wealthy wahabi king.
I want to know what the royals did for the good of people in muslim worlds?
They are just funding the leaders and using them like slaves when needed.
Wahabims and funding terrorists is their main contribution to the muslim world.
On one side iran is funding shais and on the other side the saudis funding terrorists and promoting wahabism.

Bangladesh supports Saudi-led efforts in Yemen

Bangladesh has strongly condemned the Houthi fighetrs’ action in Yemen and supports Saudi Arabia-led efforts to restore the legitimate state authority.

Houthi rebels have captured key parts of Yemen and ousted the country’s President.

Dhaka says Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi is the legitimate President of Yemen. Hadi fled the country in February amid the Houthi uprising.

The foreign ministry on Monday in a statement deplored acts of violence perpetrated by Houthis on the people of Yemen “resulting in humanitarian crisis”.

“Bangladesh supports all efforts led by Saudi Arabia in restoring the legitimate state authority and realisation of aspirations of the people of Yemen, as well as upholding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen,” it said.

The Houthi fighters, representing a Shia minority that makes up around a third of Yemen's population, emerged as the most powerful force in the Arabian Peninsula's poorest country last year when they captured capital Sana’a.

Saudi Arabia has rallied Sunni Muslim Arab countries in an air campaign to support Hadi, who moved to Aden in February and is now in Riyadh after leaving Yemen in the past week, according to Reuters.

The fighting has brought civil war to a country that was already sliding into chaos and which had been a battlefield for the secret US drone war against al Qaeda.

Bangladesh also urged for resumption of political process guided by the commitment made by the parties within the Gulf Cooperation Council Framework, the National Dialogue Conference outcomes and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Foreign nationals have deserted Yemen capital in the wake of the attacks.

The UN, too, has evacuated about a hundred of its international staff from Sana’a, which has been under Houthi control since September.

But two Bangladeshi engineers – Golam Mostafa and Sirajul Haque – are stranded in a hotel.

Foreign ministry officials in Dhaka said on Sunday that they were trying to rescue the two through the country’s embassy in Kuwait.

Monday’s statement, however, did not mention anything about the Bangladeshi nationals in Yemen.

              - Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh are quite close.

In the first gulf war Dhaka sent troops to the gulf to help the Kuwaitis who had been invaded by Saddam.

There were reports that in the 1980s Bangladesh was thinking of sending 15,000 soldiers to protect Saudi Arabia.

Press accounts reported that the Saudis were considering a plan to station a Bangladesh Army division (some 15,000 personnel) in the kingdom. The proposal was originally suggested by Zia, according to these reports. Although both governments have consistently denied reports of an impending Bangladeshi troop presence in Saudi Arabia, rumors to this effect persisted in 1988.

It is only the pro-Iranian Jamaat e "Islami" organization which would have strong reservations about Bangladeshi support over the Yemen crisis.

They have expressed no strong support for Saudi over the Yemen issue despite benefiting from Saudi money and support for decades.

                1. In the Gulf War we and the armed forces benefited by the far-sighted bold decision of Ershad. Once the High Moral Ground is established we should come forward here also. We can commit Army Medical Units, Army Engrs, Ground Combateers of FAF, BA's SF, BN SEALS, a squadron of fighters, lots of pilots some of whom have flown whatever Saudis fly or could be quickly converted to these. We could send an Inf Div for defense within S Arabia. Also an Army Workshop/EME unit.

                2. In addition send a plane load of tea and a shipload of sandbags...
A quote by a Bangladeshi from elsewhere.

                1. Bangladesh should be ready to help Saudi (and Yemen) with the provision of emergency personnel e.g. ambulance staff who can help if there is a Houthi attack on Saudi.

                2. Bangladesh can also help send personnel who can look after any refugee camps in Saudi that might have to be set up.

                3. Any military personnel that are sent should be for the protection of Saudi borders even if it is to supplement Saudi defence on the Iraq border, but not for combat or external use.
