An Afghan National Police (ANP) officer saved the lives of thousands by defusing more than 6,000 mines and IEDs in Helmand province.
For this ANP officer defusing mines and IEDs is a very easy task as he defuses between 20 to 40 mines and IEDs daily in Helmand.
He has spent four years of his life dedicated to de-mining and defusing IEDs preventing lives from being lost.
Since the beginning of his duty, Abdul Ghafoor Afghan Yaar has saved the lives of more than 24,000 countrymen.
After training for only two months, Ghafoor could easiĆ¢€Žly detect and defuse planted mines and after four years of experience, the 24 year old has taught himself to work day and night.
The performance of this police officer has attracted the attention of a lot of people including acting Minister of Interior Umer Daudzai.
During Ghafoor's time in service, he has not been promoted.
"I have not been given a promotion since I've been working and I want the government to promote and motivate me so I can perform my duties better," Ghafoor said.
Roadside mines and IEDs are the deadliest means of death in Afghanistan and in the past year alone has claimed an alarming number of lives.
The anti- Afghan government elements plant mines and IEDs to fight and attack Afghan National Security Forces making this the biggest barrier for Afghan security forces.
