Bengal was home to many of the Pashtuns/Afghans that came to India.
1. This was because Bengal is a fertile delta and could support a large number of people due to crops and food output.
2. Thus cities developed there, Bengal before the nightmare of British rule was the richest part of India and Calcutta was the capital of British India, so Pashtuns, just like anyone else, settled in such a place (Bengal) rather than in empty deserts.
