  • Former ISI official Khalid Khwaja found dead in NW

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A former Pakistani intelligence officer abducted by an alleged militant group last month was found shot dead Friday in a northwest tribal region, officials said.

Khalid Khawaja went missing in late March along with another ex-intelligence official known as Col. Imam and a filmmaker. There was no word on the fate of the two others.

Khawaja's body was found on the road between Miramshah and Mir Ali, the two main towns in North Waziristan. Local TV channels broadcast a picture of what appeared to be Khawaja's body.

He had been shot in the head and chest, and a note attached to his body accused him of being an American spy, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to be named by media.

The men were first reported abducted in late March. Soon after, a previously unknown militant group calling itself the Asian Tigers claimed to be holding the men in a video delivered to local media. Any demands they had were not made public.

Khawaja was known to be sympathetic to the militants cause, often appearing on television speaking in defense of suspected extremists.
He has claimed to be close to Osama bin Laden in the early days of the Afghan resistance to the Soviet Union.

Recently, he has spoken up in defense of five young American terror suspects on trial in Pakistan.

He also filed a petition in a Pakistani court to stop any attempt by Islamabad to extradite recently arrested Afghan Taliban leaders, including the movement's No. 2 Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.—AP

my view on this is, is this is useless information. Who cares who this guy was, and why he was kidnapped and who kidnapped him and who killed him and what afghan taliban think of this?

What does this contribute to the current situation? Nothing.

It just keeps people guessing and speculating. And that is exactly why this is happening.

And don't call me roara jan again. After you have used all that filthy words against my I don't consider you a brother.

Well...You used flithy words against our hero Khushal Khan Khattak, then you used flithy words against those who opposed your deluded way of thinking.

If i can not be friendly with you then sure, i wont then.

Your Afghan Trashy taliban consider COl imam and Khalid Saab as brothers, this is not useless information, this is a important information, because it proves again, that Afghanyun continue to lick the kwana of Punjabiyan ISI again and again.

To be Honest I dont care anymore, your half Tajik, so i understand why you always used words against PASHTUN heros, you even once told me Mohammad Nazeer made a song about sleeping with little boys, I actually confirmed this and found it to be untrue banter, then you insult Khushall Khattak, Iam tired, but all i can say is that you havnt seen the true reality.

I think MakeenSaeed Bro you are right!

I hate to say this since it is racy but Sangar has proven the typical hatred the Hazarajat (Northern Alliance types; Uzbeks, Tajiks) have for Afghans/Pushtuns.

I dont have any hatred for them. They are Muslims and so are we. I believe they are my brothers.

But Sangar keeps abusing not only Pushtun heroes but even Islamic saints such as Molana Roum.

Personally, if this is what he calls debate/forum stands for then I feel really sorry for him.

Sangar, you should make friends and brothers not make people hate you.

                  Rora, think about it.

‘Asian Tigers’ kill Khalid Khwaja on expiry of deadline

PESHAWAR: The mysterious and until now unknown militant organisation, the Asian Tigers, executed former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) official Khalid Khwaja near Mir Ali town in North Waziristan on Friday after holding him hostage for more than a month.

“We decided to kill Khalid Khwaja as the deadline we had given for our demands expired on Friday. The ISI and the government did not take our demands seriously,” said a spokesman for the Asian Tigers in an e-mail sent to this scribe soon after the killing of the elderly Khwaja.

Squadron Leader (retd) Khalid Khwaja, Colonel (retd) Sultan Amir Tarar, commonly known as Col Imam, and documentary maker Asad Qureshi, had gone to North Waziristan on March 26 to make a documentary about the Taliban. They suddenly disappeared and nothing was heard of them until the Asian Tigers claimed responsibility of their kidnapping.

The Asian Tigers, which is believed to be run by a group of Punjabi Taliban and Mehsud militants, had accused Khwaja of working for the ISI and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the US.

Tribal sources in Mir Ali, the second largest town of North Waziristan after its regional headquarters Miramshah, said villagers were offering the Friday prayers when firing was heard in Karamkot village, five kilometres west of the main Mir Ali-Miramshah Road.

Villagers said they came out of the mosque and saw the bullet-riddled body of an elderly person lying on a small road of Karamkot village. “We did not know about this old man but he was looking graceful. Someone had just shot him dead. He was shot in the head and chest and was still bleeding when we reached there,” said Muhammad Israr, a shopkeeper in Mir Ali Bazaar. He said he was among the few people who had reached there first and saw the body.

Some villagers said they saw armed people reaching there in a car and firing at the bearded man with AK-47assault rifles.

His assailants had placed a computer-generated letter on his body, alleging he was killed for his association with the ISI and CIA and his negative role in the Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa military operation in Islamabad.

Terrified tribesmen did not want to take any risk by shifting the body to a proper place. By evening, the once powerful and now toothless political administration sent a Jirga of elders and some low-level government officials to collect the body of the former ISI officer.

The Jirga, which was holding white flags, later took possession of the body and shifted it to the military camp in Mir Ali.

Muhammad Omar, a spokesman for Taliban Media Centre that is believed to be operated by the Punjabi Taliban, called this scribe saying the other two men, Colonel Imam and Asad Qureshi, might meet the same fate if the government did not consider the demands of the Asian Tigers seriously.

He claimed all major militant organisations operating in the region had a unanimous opinion about punishing Khwaja. “Everybody wanted him to be executed as he had confessed of all charges against him,” explained Omar who spoke in Urdu.

He claimed that Khwaja and Maulana Shah Abdul Aziz, the former MMA MNA from Karak, during their previous visit to North Waziristan had brought a list of 14 senior Taliban commanders, majority of them Punjabis associated with the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, and told the TTP leaders, Hakimullah Mehsud and Waliur Rahman that they were getting financial assistance from the Indian intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).

Omar even mentioned names of militant commanders identified as Indian agents by Khwaja and said among them were Qari Zafar, Rana Afzal, Ustad Abdul Samad, Qari Ehsan, Qari Basit, Ustad Aslam, Yasin, Qari Assadullah, Qari Imran, Qari Hamza, Ustad Khalid, Abu Huzaifa, Matiur Rahman and Qari Hussain Ahmad Mehsud. The last-named is considered to be the master trainer of suicide bombers.

Omar narrated a long list of allegations against Khwaja. He said one of the main causes of his death was his support to the Afghan Taliban and strong opposition to the Pakistani Taliban. “He would call us terrorists and refer to the Afghan Taliban as Mujahideen,” Omar recalled.

In the recent videos released by the Asian Tigers, Colonel Imam had claimed that he had come to North Waziristan on the advice of former Army chief General (retd) Mirza Aslam Beg while Khwaja said he had gone there on the advice of former ISI chief Lieutenant General (retd) Hameed Gul, General (retd) Aslam Beg and Colonel Sajjad of the ISI.

Meanwhile, senior Afghan Taliban commanders, who were negotiating with the Asian Tigers through two senior Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leaders from Orakzai Agency, said the group comprised 30-40 people, Punjabi and Mehsud, all expelled from their respective groups — the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and the TTP.

They said the two TTP leaders had held a meeting with members of Asian Tigers about their demands. The group, they said, told the TTP leaders that they would inform them about the demands within two days. The Taliban commanders said the group was supposed to convey them the demands on Saturday but they killed Khalid Khwaja without any reason.

The Taliban felt someone very powerful was behind the group as despite having limited number of fighters, it was freely moving in the region. “The group is run by Usman Punjabi and Sabir Mehsud — both were expelled from their respective organisations,” the Taliban commander said, wishing not to be named.

The Taliban on Pakistan side are anti Pakistan while the Taliban on Afghan side are anti Afghanistan in political sense . Hence ISI supports the Afghan Taliban and oppose the ones in Pakistan. Such is the hypocitical policy of ISI.They want the Afghans to live in stone age system presented by Taliban but do not want it for those living in Pakistan.

Ideologically ,both factions of Taliban ,have nothing to offer to humanity except a 1400 years old bedoin city state framework which is impractical in the modern world.

It was good at that time and only for the Arabs and as history proved the moemnt it came out of ther peninsula it transformed into Arab nationalistic ideal which got limited to Ummayd or Abbbasid or Fatimid pattern of statecraft.

The Arab ideology has fans all over the world who are suffering from nostaligic fantacisation and the founders of Pakistan even used it as a slogan though Jinnah was a pure liberal elite of bombay from karachi who was least botherd about relgion as a tool of statecraft but his collegues who were the upper class from U.P had to safeguard their interests along with the Punjabi muslims from east Punjab who were in heavy debt and could not compete with the Hindus on merit.

Afghans should realise that what is gone is gone with the wind. History always moves forward. It will never come back. We have to look to modern science and technology to build Afghanistan instead of obsolete explanations of some begging mullas who do not have the skill to earn respectable earning even for themselves and have to beg the Arab Salafi fanatics who have sold out their conscience to the clergy of Al Saood for their life.

Sangar and other Afghans and Pashtuns are suffering from romantic nostalgia. I have been in saudi arabia for 10 years ,if these romanticists come to know the reality of the nation which these salafis or khalifis revere so much they would be shocked to death. What I saw and anyone and everyone ,who lives in Makkah and Medina would tell you would amaze you.

Wasalam roara Jan ta Sarange yee?

Of course he would have opposed Jinnah.

Jinnah didnt work for Pashtuns, he worked for the Indian Muslims with British Help. I hate Afghan Taliban because they never speak for Pashtuns, they just cry for the release of their pakistani sister aafia siddiqi and col imam.

I beleive in Pure Pashtun Nationalism, whch goes out of the realm of Jihadis, and focuses more on Pashtun Unity, culture and our own Pashtunwali system for which we can reform and modernised but i dont like these foreign imported ideoligies that are mostly suited for Desert bedions of Arabia.
