  • A gallant army of Pashtun tribesmen

The US seems to have a strange case of myopia. If NATO has, thus far, been unsuccessful at defeating a resilient Pashtun insurgency in Afghanistan, then why does it feel that Pakistan will be successful at defeating a Pashtun insurgency within its own borders?

Pakistan has, in fact, been fighting its own Pashtun insurgency for years, and it has been unable to defeat it. Just as Pashtun insurgents regularly carry out attacks against NATO troops in Afghanistan, they also carry regular attacks against Pakistani troops in Pakistani territory. This is not a conventional war. It is a guerrilla war. Just as the United States believed it had won when it overthrew the Taliban government in 2001, the Pakistani military believed it had won after it declared victory in Bajaur, Swat, South Waziristan, Orakzai and Kurram.

NATO has continued to suffer casualties in Afghanistan just as the Pakistani forces have continued to suffer casualties in the northwest region. Observers in Toronto say that the United States and Pakistan will continue to suffer the impact of the foolish wars against the Pashtun people as the US and Pakistani economies are bled dry by the sheer will of a small but gallant army of Pashtun tribesmen.
Yes, from 1988, when the Punjabi generals and architects of the 20th and 21st century Jehadi phenomenon like General Ziaul Haq, General Hamid Gul, General Akhtar Abdur Rahman, etc. devised the devlish plan to establish Islamist hegemony under the leadership of Punjab in Cental and South Asia using Jehadis and then help the Arab bretherns liberate Palestine, to 2002
when Punjab was pressured to end its Kashmir misadventure, Pakis/Punjabis used to say the same thing i.e., the insurgency in Kashmir is being waged by local Kashmiris.

Why go far? In 1999, during the Kargal misadventure, Pakis/Punjabis used to say, these are Mujahidin having occupied the Kargil heights. Later it divulged it was the NLI (Northern Light Infantry) division of Pakistan fighting at those heights.

Americans have spelled it out alas though partially that Pakistan's security and intelligence agencies are aiding Taleban on one side to kill NATO/US forces in Afghanistan and Lashkar-i-Taiba, etc. to carry out terrorist missions in India e.g., in Mumbay.

When you ask the Punjabi officers of Pakistan army, they boost that they are playing smart and that NATO/US forces will be kicked out of Afghanistan soon.

Mr Talal, it is not Pashtun insurgency; it is Punjab's proxy war because it is seeing the writing on the wall in case a new regional order emerges in South-Central Asia.

The core problem lies in the policies of west. It does not matter whether it is implied through Pakistan or any other puppet regime
