Have you studied the book "Indus Saga" by Itizaz Hassan? That is also an attempt to prove that the history of Indus Valley is distinct from that of the Indo-Gangetic plain.

It is true that many unchoots converted to Islam, though majority of the people who adopted names like Sayids, Sheikhs, Quraishi etc. were from higher casts including Kashtriya and Brahmins, who continued the age old caste system now amongst the Muslims of the sub-continent. Since they could no longer be these higher casts of Hindus, they adopted it to be higher casts of Muslims.

But there is truth to their non-Indic linages. Pakistanis generally don't look like Indians and you can tell them apart right away. What is the reason for that? A 1000 year of rule over such a large population will result in millions, if not hundreds of millions, descendants of the Muslim Turks, Persians, Arabs, Mughuls and Afghans. Muslims didn't just marry one, rather they married multiple, giving birth to dozens of children midst whom they divided many lands and inheritance.

Pakistan is also made up of Northern India, where the population is culturally, linguistically different than other parts of India. These groups are genetically related to other Indo-Aryans, Hephthalites etc. and what not that many proud Aryan Pukhtoons and Afghans claim as their own ancestry.

So the claim for many, is legitimate, when they say they are different than other Indians in that respect.

Unfortunately or fortunately, Islam is not a monolithic civilization. It is a combination of three or four distinct civilizations or you may say an aggregation of three or four sub-civilizations e.g., Arab cvilization, Persian, Indo-Muslim, and I don't know whether it should be counted or not as a distinct civilization but Turk civilization. You can also count the Far-Eastern Muslim civilization as another sub-civilization existing within the broader Muslim Civilizational sphere.


Moreovere, I have noticed, the craving for a distinct identity in Indian/Pakistani Muslims has much deeper reasons i.e., within Islam they want their distinctivenes...that is why the emphasis on Indian Muslim Culture, Urdu. and Pakistan.

In fact historically northern India was cosidered as proper India. Since Pakistanis, except Pashtun and Baloch populations (and territories) are all erstwhile Indians hence they are the same people as present day Indians or indic people. How is it possible for them not to be Indic when their ethnic roots are quite evident since they are neither Pashtun(afghans) nor Tatar who ruled india?
