PESHAWAR: Inspector General of Police Fiaz Ahmad Toru has said despite being frontline province in the war against terror, the rate of crime in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was far less compared to other provinces.
Briefing the 29-member delegation of the 93rd Course of National Management College here on Friday, he said the province had been badly affected due to terrorism and its police were passing through the most difficult and challenging time of history.
He expressed satisfaction at the fact that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police successfully fought this war as a frontline force. The delegation was told that 551 police officers and jawans embraced martyrdom and 1,381 were injured in the war against terror from 2007 to mid-September 2010. They were also informed about the Malakand situation and initiatives taken by the police to put an effective halt to terrorism.
The provincial police chief said that besides sensitisation and mobilisation of police manpower, their pay-scale and compensation for police martyrs and injured had been increased, intelligence coordination improved, proactive policing adopted and effective combing and search operations launched. The IGP claimed that 77 percent kidnapped persons had been recovered and gangs involved in the kidnappings busted.
