  • India third most powerful nation: US

Tue, Sep 21 11:57 AMWashington, Sep 21 (IANS) India is listed as the third most powerful country in the world after the US and China and the fourth most powerful bloc after the US, China and the European Union in a new official US report. The new global power lineup for 2010 alsopredicted that New Delhi's clout in the world will further rise by 2025, according to 'Global Governance 2025' jointly issued by the National Intelligence Council (NIC) of the US and the European Union's Institute for Security Studies (EUISS), the report illustrates what could happen over the next 25 years in terms of global governance. In 2010, the US tops the list of powerful countries/regions, accounting for nearly 22 percent of the global power. The US is followed by China with European Union at 16 percent and India at eight percent. India is followed by Japan, Russia and Brazil with less than five percent each.According to this international futures model, by 2025 the power of the US, EU, Japan and Russia will decline while that of China, India and Brazil will increase, even though there will be no change in this listing.By 2025, the US will still be the most listing.By 2025, the US will still be the most powerful country of the world, but it will have a little over 18 percent of the global power. The US will be closely followed by China with 16 percent, European Union with 14 percent and India with 10 per cent.'The growing number of issues on the international agenda, and their complexity, is outpacing the ability of international organisations and national governments to cope,' the report warns. This critical turning point includes issues of climate change, ethnic and regional conflicts, new technology, and the managing of natural resources. The report also highlights the challenges managing of natural resources. The report also highlights the challenges proponents of effective global governanceface. On one hand, rapid globalistion, economic and otherwise, has led to an intertwining of domestic politics and international issues and fueled the need for more cooperation and more effective leadership. But on the other hand, an increasingly multipolar world, often dominated by non-state actors, have put a snag in progress toward effectual global governance, it said.

They ignore the real power in the muslim world, the mujahideen, which will establish a Khalifate. That will become one of the most powerful state in the world. Just wait and see.

Why do you keep repeating the same ol' tripe again and again ?

BTW no intelligent Indian takes this report seriously. The report is published by the US government just before Ombaba's visit, to massage some egos New Delhi. Nothing more.

If Obama thinks that he can get any concessions by not walking the talk, he will be in for a great shock .

Of course, there are. Just think for a sec, toilets can be shared. Every person needs an individual mobile phone but doesnt need an individual toilet. A 6-8 member joint family wont have 8 toilets in their home, one for each member. That is why the no. of mobile phones will always be more than the number of toilets.

True, public sanitation facilities and access is a shame in India but comparing the number of toilets with mobile phones makes no sense.

I disagree. India-afghan relations is not a new thing. When Pakistan offered herself to the Western Capitalist world for service and joined SEATO and CENTO, Afghanistan and India joined NAM, the Non-Aligned Movement. Even India had established an exile government in Afghanistan during the British rule of india much before the creation of Pakistan.

Yeah its good , a third world country is helping you for their own interest.

Of course India is following its own national interest in Afghanistan, just like US/Russia/Padistan/ China/Iran are. But India's role is most benign in comparison with the rest. Also Afghan's national interest converge most with India's, which is not the case with Padistan. Like khayal said, we are also historical allies. Calling India Afghans' enemy is a silly statement at best, diabolical one at worst.

Afghanistan is land locked , you can always get better but your country can never get better than tajikistan and uzbekistan unless you live on Indian aid lol.
That is a very foolish statement. Afghans will be (semi) dependent only till their country is stabilized. Afghanistan is blessed with incredible amount of natural resources. AFAIK Afghans are very hard working folk. Land lockedness will be a non-issue, if Afghan leaders do some hard-bargaining with Iranians. Afghanistan can also take advantage of its Geo-strategic location (gateway to Central Asia) if it doesn't act foolishly like the Pakis do.

Do you forget that Indians financialy supported North Allaince to kill Pashtuns?

Wrong. India supported Northern Alliance to defeat Taliban, which at that time was a Paki proxy, which was an US proxy.

Taliban also killed many more innocent Afghans. During those dark days, there was no perfect choice. India chose to work with the lesser evil.

                              Its all about interests.

Nobody is a friend of Pashtun.
Wake up. Countries never become friends with each other. OTOH citizens do. Indians *are* friends and well wishers of common Afghans/Pashtuns/Tajiks/Hazaras. Always have been.
