If Pashtun culture has a problem with females then it the blame of the males themselves.

As the male has the Y gene. The female only has XX.

So the males who predominantly dictate the culture should start looking at themselves before they begin to even think about making it an issue.

I myself have witnessed Pashtun families saying "I wish I had a boy". I think its an open secret that Pashtuns value boys over girls. Its sort of a tribal mentality that still exists.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

lol thats what I was thinking when I saw this thread.
My mum's aunty's son just had a daughter recently and she really hates girls so she was really annoyed that her Son had a daughter and not a son.
someone told her "tu kho um khaza eh (you are a female aswell)" and she goes "zo khapl zan badisham (I hate myself)" lol.
she will go crazy if they had a another daughter.

because when daughters gets married then they leave you, Sons will be with you all your life, take care of your land, Business, they are money earners in Pashtun culture and Islam...thats why ..thats what these people think.

Rupeenews is a Pakistani propaganda site with memorable articles like: SEX LIFE OF INDIRA GANDHI OF INDIA: The Indian Matahiri:- Indira's tryst with seduction and Sex Antics of Mohandas Gandhi: His Failures, Pedophilia, Adultery, Incest, Sexual Perversion & Fetishes ( I won't post links)

Nonetheless it is shameful that this practice of female foeticide is prevalent especially in some parts of North India. For this reason government has banned sex determination tests. But many clinics still conduct these tests and subsequently abort female fetuses illegally.

Various State governments have devised schemes for protection of girl child, for example in UP a girl is given free bicycle and Rs. 20,000 after she graduates from High school. The State government also gives her Rs. 150,000 on her marriage ( provided she is older than 18 yrs.) . Many such schemes also operate in other states.

Hopefully these medieval attitudes will change in time.
