  • Americans Flooded Out Millions in Pakistan to Protect U.S. Drone Military Base

Sept 14, 2010 Feryal Ali Gauhar served as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund and is the only UN Goodwill Ambassador who quit over the invasion of Iraq.
Gauhar is a Pakistani actress, filmmaker, writer and human rights activist. Her most recent book is set in Afghanistan. It’s called No Space for Further Burials.
    Gauhar told Democracy Now today:
Feryal Ali Gauhar: I just happened to stumble across a contractor … the contractor who built the base, who inadvertently, actually, spoke about it…. So, he actually mentioned to me that the River Indus, which is one of the largest rivers in the world, carrying now a volume of water which has not been known in contemporary history, was breached on the left bank deliberately in order to protect the base, which is on the right bank. And the breaching caused, consequentially, the inundation of an entire district, which resulted in the displacement of millions, not thousands, but millions, because we have 170 million people in the country, and this particular district is one of the most densely populated. So, yes, there is a connect between, you know, what is considered to be a natural disaster, but then the management of that disaster is not natural at all.
Amy Goodman: And this is a base that is used, run by US military, to run its drone attacks?
Feryal Ali Gauhar: Oh, absolutely. In fact, it is a base where non-US military personnel are not allowed. In fact, the person I was talking who was there, who built the base, actually said to me that one of the reasons why non-US military personnel are not allowed is not just for security of the US military personnel, but because they do not wish to share the technology. They are—you know, we’ve had a long historical and political tie with the People’s Republic of China. And so, there is this fear that was expressed while the contractor was working on the base that the drone technology, you know, should remain specifically in the hands of the US military, and it should not be replicated by any other nation. So there is that protection of the technology itself. It’s not just the protection of the personnel.

Even if Gauhar’s allegation is true, she is not alleging that Americans caused all of Pakistan’s flooding. Specifically, the flooding started in the Northwest part of Pakistan, and then spread to the middle and finally the southern-most province of Sindh. The incident which Gauhar addressed took place in Sindh.
Allegation: Americans Flooded Out Millions in Pakistan to Protect U.S. Drone Military Base

The drone base should NEVER be there, regardless. Not one drone base should be used against Afghans or Pakistanis.

There's a reason those drones are called Predators. They are simply evil the way they have been employed in this war.

Plus to not have the decency to stop the attacks after a flooding of epic proportions tells how cold and cruel heartlessness is the only name of the game.

Let's say the source here exaggerated. Even if it were 10's of thousands who were displaced rather than millions, is that justified ?

Where is the conscience of the American military and civilian policy makers for these wars? There is none evident.

Probably the base was meant to be incapacitated by the deluge, as a divine punishment.

Notice how this drone program is one fruit of a secular society: no one asks what God wishes. Had the base been ruined, no one would seen the message. They would just mechanically rebuild it.

This is BS man, there is no predator base inside Pakistan. And before you guys run off to google shamsi was the only one sanctioned to the US and it closed way back.

Use common sense how much in aid did US and everyone else had to give to Pakistan ? Pakistan had to pull troops out of the agencies, why would US want to do that ?

And these drones are soo useful "because" they have an extraordinary loitering time, they can and are operated mainly out of kandahar so its utter non-sense to assume that someone flooded these areas on purpose
It's enough that I know, Our time had a home, In your heart..Was a place..But the glass always breaks..

Well look how the residents of Diego Garcia were treated in this article. Sounds similar to the original accusation in this thread.

So maybe the American drone launching base - or bases - is/are similarly super-secret. Thus Pakistanis are not informed about it/them.

You notice the source never specifies any location. Perhaps there is a breach of national security involved, so she is purposely vague.
          Or else delusional...

          Time will tell which !

It's especially sad that - the author of the book described below alleges -there is a prison operating on this Indian Ocean island.

So perhaps IF truly there is a base within Pakistan's territory, there might be nearby some similar high-security interrogation center or prison.
Maybe that would be another reason for the extreme nervousness about letting any Pakistani residents get near.

For the highest good of all, such American facilities - secret or semi-secret - in Pakistan/Afghanistan/those set up to bother Iran should be dismantled and bags packed for the USA pronto!
Those based anywhere in the world which are aimed at Russia or China can stay!

"More than 2,000 of Diego Garcia residents have been living in poverty since the US and Britain expelled them in the late 1960s to turn the island into a secret US military base.

American university professor David Vine has unveiled the truth about the secret military installation the US built near the remote center of the Indian Ocean.

The indigenous inhabitants of the island were forcibly exiled by American and British forces in the late 1960s and early 1970s to make way for the US military base.

In his latest book "Island of Shame", Vine reveals the truth of how the Chagossians were deported to slums in Mauritius and the Seychelles, where most still live in dire poverty.

He chronicles the dramatic story of the Chagossians as they struggle to survive in exile and fight to return to their homeland.

          >>>The base was a little-known launchpad for the US-led invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan and is also believed to house a top-secret CIA prison where terror suspects are interrogated and tortured.

After several court cases, the islanders have still not been allowed to resettle their homeland.

Tracing US foreign policy from the Cold War to the war on terror, Vine shows how Washington has forged a new and pervasive kind of empire that is quietly dominating the planet with hundreds of overseas military bases."
