  • KP govt to pay forces Rs20m for helicopter operations

PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government will pay Rs20 million to the military authorities as charges for the helicopters used in the rescue operations during the flooding that affected 24 districts of the province.
Sources told The News that the provincial government had been approached through the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in a letter to pay Rs20 million as charges for the 30 helicopters that made over 1,000 trips to the inundated areas during the rescue and relief operations in the province.
The sources added that the charges sought from the provincial government would cover the period from July 28, the day the floods first struck Swat and rest of Malakand division, to August 4.
They said the bill for Rs20 million would now be put up to the chief minister for approval as it exceeded the limit, which the PDMA director general and the finance committee formed for the purpose were authorised to sanction. The sources said the committee was authorised to approve amounts up to Rs10 million.
The sources said efforts would be made to pay the bill at the earliest once Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti gives approval. The sources also confirmed that the charges for the eight US Chinook helicopters that were used in the rescue operation in Malakand division and elsewhere in the province during the floods would also be paid by the provincial government. However, they added that the charges for the US choppers would be deducted from the aid the United States had pledged for the flood-affected people.
When contacted, PDMA officials did not confirm they had received the letter, but they pointed out that it would be part of a routine as all the government departments and the institutions have their own rules of hiring and seeking services and equipment against mutually agreed payments.
They said the finance division would do the needful in respect of the charges for the US helicopters, but it was decided in principle that the charges for the Chinooks would be met from the US aid money as the province was not in a position to pay the amount.
To a question, they said the choppers used in the rescue operation did not belong to the charity organisations and they were not supposed to fly free of cost. There would be proper audit of the organisations engaged in the rescue and relief operation and every penny spent on the choppers would also be counted, they added.
A Finance Department official said that payment of an amount on account of helicopter service charges was nothing alarming or illegal as there was a budget allocation for that. Every department sets aside an amount for the emergency services, including helicopter services, and it is reflected in the budget, he said.

There isn't any propaganda in the news.I am actually sort of surprised myself because I thought that due to flood situation, the army would not charge for the choppers especially when they also used the whole situation to glorify their noble acts. The most outrageous thing is how they are charging for the USA choppers when the USA made it free to use. They are going to take out the money from the aid given to us. Mind you that we do not get the aid directly as the Punjab does.

Khor basically our aid goes through the federal government and Panjab provincial can deal with it directly.

Hahaha gulalai do you remember how those few noble acts were on repeat on pakistan media? Wow now they are going to charge our already burdened provincial government (which is owed billions in royalties). Talk about eating the cake and having it too.

As BLS mentioned, international aid to KP and Balochistan is not direct like Punjab and any aid (like the services rendered above) are charged eventually.

Spot on @BLS:LOL. That reminds me of the drama ISI played the other day by asking TTP to send threats to foreign aid workers who have now stopped going into the fields directly.Ugha da dwee "neeki kar darya mei dal" wala qissa kho gada wada shwa. Dwee da neeki na pas khalaq daryaab ta bya ghuzaar kei...hahaaha

Time to reminisce the global deeds one more time..

            @afghan

Afghanistan opened its heart when the richest Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia and UAE did not give a single penny. Afghanistan aid is still "foriegn" (unfortunately), hence will meet the same fate presumably.

Gulalai you made me watch that Pak Army video. I don't know what to do with you now. Can I have my 5 minutes back?
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

                    Ooops!!I am guilty

This shocked me more than my exam today.

Saturday the giant National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation System (Nasdaq) screen in Times Square was offered to Pakistan from 5 to 6 pm, a peak traffic time, to project a message to collect donations for flood relief. This is the first time any country has been offered this facility. Even Haiti was not given this favour after their earthquake.
The giant Times Square Nasdaq screen is one of the most high profile, highly visible and expensive advertising mediums known. Nasdaq estimated that Pakistan could collect at least a million US dollars by using this unique advertising facility.
And now the shocking part: The embassy sent images of Benazir and the consul general in New York which were flashed on the giant screen with no message about the floods. Puzzled people watched this giant image of this brown guy in a suit and wondered what he was doing on the screen.
And a golden opportunity to collect valuable donations and to project the plight of the flood victims was sacrificed at the altar of some embassy minion’s sycophancy. And in this bargain went our dignity and respect.
The tragedy is that all relevant flood images were available with the embassy in New York as our foreign minister had just recently made a presentation of the same there.
Nasdaq withdrew this privilege shortly after, saying they were fools to let Pakistan have this opportunity. Someone should investigate this shocking event and someone should be held responsible for it.
Hahahaah! Here is the video in Times Square.

They shouldn`t and for the life of me I don`t understand their logic in doing this. It is as low as one can get...the province shouldn`t have to pay it.
