I can't believe how disgusting this is to watch
    Embarrassing.
The narrator doesn't TRY to pronounce Mazar-i-Sharif.
The dancing the 'service members' do is AWFUL.

Then the groom says he LIKES "American dancing", all gung-ho for everything Western obviously.

Ironically, I signed in ready to write a comment about a book by a guy who raves and raves about America. I found it by chance when researching the Afghan female 'general' last nite.

I thought to myself, there can't be more than a few of these types who really believe America is in Afghanistan to promote 'peace and happiness' through the region.

Then I found this video, and sure enough! Here's another of them: this translator. To listen to him even for a minute is to feel like throwing up!

ALL of these productions: books like The Kite Runner, the book above "My Name is Mohammad", "The Kabul Beauty Salon" - ALL the videos published by official outlets are nothing but sheer propaganda to pound home this same tired message to uneducated, unaware Americans.

Now if some of us on this site were to write our own books telling real truth, no major publishing house would ever even look at them! There is no mystery at all why certain videos get wide distribution, and why the stupidest or worst books in the world become New York Times "bestsellers". Hmmm.

The video is just too much, I had to laugh at how stupid it is!

The guy looks like a criminal. He just invited the Americans to imrpress his inlaws. But the americans figured: Great! Take camera reporters there so we can use this opportunity to inlfluence public opinion about afghanistan.

SK: You are so smart! I didn't get that angle.
          Of COURSE!

That explains the OBVIOUSLY STAGED interviews, where each person repeats a careful prepared statement. But the GI's run out of descriptions after the word "honored to be here"....they cannot creatively form a unique, novel sentence to express their feelings. Instead they resort to big smiles giving a benign, friendly impression that they are just beaming away to be assisting Afghanistan in their "fraternal duty".
          Sound familiar?
That's what the Red Army soldiers maintained to the press too!
Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose - ie times never change!

I am still mentally recoiling at the sight of those guys trying to be cool on the dance floor.

You think he looks like a criminal? I'm sure he is, but I assumed they picked a clean cut looking one to show off to the home audience how grateful are these america-worshipping locals whom the US is so kindly assisting in their brave struggle against The Forces of DreadTerrorism!

Interesting that the soldiers can not remain for the actual wedding. I guess some Army rule for THEIR security.
Not to help the safety of the Afghan participants by staying away from the ceremonial occasion.

Well one thing is sure: the Army soldiers interviewed by the camera will be showing this clip to their great grandchildren!
They will boast about how special they were to get this coveted, rare invitation.
Rare maybe because nobody would WANT them to attend their wedding. No one in their right mind, that is...!

it is quite common for afghans who serve the invaders to boast about their abilities and connection with the invader to impress their own respective communities.

Tribal chiefs plead allegiance to Americans because they fear the collective effort of other tribes and local community against them.

Likewise interpreters invite Americans to the wedding to impress their relatives.

And the wedding is in Mazar. Thats a real war zone. LOL

              ARE the communities REALLY impressed?
This opens up a window on truth here.

Do they PRETEND to be impressed just so word doesn't get around that they are NOt in favor of the invasionary force?

Or, are some factions sincerely awed by American --- american what?
              Military hardware?
              Kitchen gadgets?
              Ugly uniforms?!

I mean, I can't imagine much that the American military forces have to offer the average Afghan, at least to the point to win them over to helping them.

I am just speculating; I have no idea, not having spoken with any in the country to hear their HONEST reactions.

If the groom's relatives will be impressed by this appearance of US military personnel in uniform, one has to wonder WHY would they be?!

To help my education - is it the face that makes the interpreter seem shady ?
How could you discern that? I really like to learn.

I think I'll watch this video every time i need a good laugh...excellent post!

Oh, didn't get what was meant about the tribal chiefs.
I never AT ALL understood why ANY of them EVER make pledges of allegiance.

The other tribes are a threat to the chiefs because.....? I'm not that awake yet, so sorry to ask for explanation of what may be obvious.
You mean, the surrounding tribes and community all favor American occupation, so these chiefs feel pressured to go with the flow ? Or risk ---- what? Gossip? Or attacks from the others? I don't get it...

I can't even imagine any but a small percentage could be bought off to condone the US occupation. That only temporarily too. To me that's why it was a losing expedition right from the start. Besides, the whole principle of thinking one can throw around dollars to buy people's loyalty is a bad policy because it's unbelievably insulting.

That sort of arrogant attitude of American dealings with Afghans is so apparent from Day One of this invasion to the present moment. It even oozes through in the interactions in this video clip.

Showed this to my friend, it turns out that the groom is my friend's neighbour in Khair Khan, Kabul. His name is Ehsan and he has been doing jihad along with Americans for a few years.
O'faithful hearken thy vezir, for he promises them another Gandamak and for the ancestors of Hari Nalwa a similar fate has been sealed. We shall shake the foundations of their inner sanctums, written in gold and immortal will remain this endeavor of Afghans.

Wow, does your friend know anything about WHY Ehsan signed up, was he always an interpreter, and especially what his character is like ?
I would like to hear in case you have another chance to ask your friend about him.

Those who have weddings out in the west, invite the big bosses as well...sometimes I guess.

Well there are many to support them for obvious reason and there are many to kick them out.

it much better for the US soldiers to attend the Afghan wedding than bombing it.
