This morning there was a report that a cab driver in New York was stabbed because he was Muslim. While the facts are still emerging, all reasonable people can agree this is a shameful and un-American act if this proves to be true.
This incident will undoubtedly be used by the media to further push the narrative that the controversy over the Mosque near Ground Zero in New York shows how Americans are bigoted against Muslims. So here’s some clarifying info from the FBI. According to the latest hate crime statistics available, there were 1,606 hate crime offenses motivated by religious bias in 2008. A closer look: 65.7 percent of them were committed against Jews. Against Muslims? 7.7 percent.
Depending on which population estimates you accept for Muslims (anywhere between 4 and 7 million), hate crimes are committed against Jews at a rate three to eight times greater than against Muslims. Yet something tells me that despite all these hard numbers — as opposed to Time’s “anecdotal evidence” – thatmagazine is not going to run a cover anytime soon asking, “Is America Anti-Semitic?”
After 9/11, there was a quick spike in anti-Muslim hate crimes — there were 28 in 2000, then 155 in 2002. In 2008, there were 123. Even one hate crime is too many, but consider: Between 2 and 4 of every 100,000 Muslims was a hate crime victim in 2008. The murder rate in D.C. last year was about 24 for every 100,000 residents.
Another interesting data point: 4.7 percent of hate crimes in 2008 were motivated by anti-Catholic bias. Another 3.7 percent were anti-Protestant. So from a raw numbers perspective, there were more hate crimes against Christians in America in 2008 than there were against Muslims. Given our large Christian population, it’s true that each Christian is far less likely to be victimized, but the numbers still show that religious haters have not been singling out Muslims.

Oh course I find it upsetting that in the past few days there does seem to be an increase in hate directed towards Muslims in the USA but for the most part we have much more safety & security than we do in our own Muslim lands and Jewish people are much more hated than us so please let's not distort the picture and make it seem like it's a crisis when it is not.

I've read both his books. Jewish Supremacy and My Awakening. He is a filthy racist. Its a fact. But we have to respect the fact that he uses many references to build his arguments. And a large portion of what he says holds truth.

Of course his conviction that Jews and black people are inferior, is stupid. But the fact that Jews do infleunce American media is something that is well supported by evidence even other JEWISH authors have affirmed and critisized

In the wake of a knife attack on a Muslim New York City taxi driver, Islamic leaders are calling for an end to anti-Muslim rhetoric that many say has proliferated on talk radio and cable TV amid the heated debate over the planned Islamic center near ground zero.
Many prominent Muslim-American leaders say they are alarmed by what they deem "anti-Muslim hysteria" that could lead to violence and hate crimes. “I have been working on behalf of other Muslims for more than 30 years and I have never see it like this, not even after the 9/11 attacks,” says Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Washington.
Mr. Hooper blames the harshness of language toward Muslims not just on the heated protests over the Islamic center planned for a site 2-1/2 blocks from ground zero, but also on right-wing rabble rousing, continuing resentment over the election of Barack Obama, and the difficult economy.
“We’ve had a perfect storm for Islamophobia,” Hooper says.
Erica Payne, the founder of a New York nonprofit called the Agenda Project, blames politicians of both parties for not speaking out more forcefully against what she called an increase in hate speech directed at Muslims.
“It’s happened very quickly, a lot of matches have been lit all at once,” says Ms. Payne, whose group released a YouTube video calling on politicians to take a more prominent leadership role. “Those who should have held the fire extinguisher have abdicated,” she says. “If they don’t take hold of themselves, this will be the very beginning of a long line of these kinds of incidents.”
In the case of the taxi driver, a young man, Michael Enright of Brewster, N.Y., is alleged to have entered a cab driven by Ahmed Sharif, who is from Bangladesh.
“It was a friendly conversation at first,” says New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.
Mr. Enright apparently asked Mr. Sharif if he was a Muslim and how his Ramadan was going, says Commissioner Kelly. But, fairly quickly, Enright is alleged to have started making anti-Muslim statements before pulling a knife out. He is accused of cutting Sharif’s throat, face, and shoulders.
Kelly says arresting officers found an empty liquor bottle in Enright’s briefcase as well as some journals that had yet to be examined because of the need for a search warrant. Enright was taken to Bellevue Hospital for observation. Kelly says Enright claimed to be Jewish. “We don’t believe that to be the case,” says Kelly.
According to press reports, Enright is a film student and just returned from filming troops in Afghanistan.
Ten hate crimes against Muslims have been reported so far this year in New York City, says Kelly. In 2009, there were 6 for the entire year. Since 2001, an average of 10 hate crimes against Muslims have been reported annually.
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg invited Sharif, his wife, and his four children to City Hall on Thursday. At a media-packed photo opportunity, Mr. Bloomberg said, “These things are rare but one time is enough.”
Later, on the steps of City Hall, Bhairavi Desai, the executive director of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance, blamed “fear mongering,” which she said “leads to hate crimes.”
Ms. Desai urged New York Gov. David Patterson to sign a bill (already passed by the legislature) that would make assaulting a cab driver punishable by up to 25 years in prison. Since more than 50 percent of the city’s taxi drivers are Muslims, she says, the enactment of the legislation in the light of the attack is particularly important.

More than anything else I blame Fox news. They should be ashamed of themselves for inciting so much hatred with their irresponsible and biased journalism. They spread a lot of misinformation that many accept without questioning as the truth. Just a few nights ago I saw that nut Glen Beck STILL insisting Obama is a secret Muslim and that he is destroying this country on purpose.
