"They came first for the communists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for me and by that time there was no one left to speak up."
    -Pastor Martin Niemoller.

That guy needs to have shame.

You should watch the video. He is actually arguing in favor of the Islamic community center.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

In America, muslim integration is not really that bad..compared to France it is leagues ahead. The issue is that Palin represents a very ugly part of the republican party...basically they are going to take that party into the ground. Essentially a party that was known as the big business party and small government one has turned into the redneck, sideline issues and contradiction party. If these people were proper republicans then they can't argue against this, since it is simply a private property issue...and in America if you buy the land, it is your right to build whatever you want. There is no ifs or buts in it. However, the republican party is slipping and they are trying to cling onto any issue that buy them cheap votes and rally whatever bit of base they have left.

Believe me or not but the public opinion in most parts of New York is favorable to his. Many New Yorkers really don't mind. You can witness women wearing hijabs all across the USA and people just go along their respective routes. Many politicians love blowing things out of proportion with an intention of gaining votes. Many New Yorkers would say, "As long as Muslims aren't enforcing Islam on us, who cares if they build a Skyscraper Mosque".

You know.. we all somehow wish for that, yet few of us really do speak up.

This is not even about speaking up against Islamophobic tendencies - this is about any sort of racism, any sort of xenophobia, any sort of discrimination, racial profiling, and all the little steps that lead to all of the above.

What should lead us to speaking up is not only our intuition to protect ourselves against attacks against US but rather an urge to seek justice for all of mankind - it is our duty as citizens to speak up against injustice, not only against us but anyone.

In light thereof, yes I do wish for someone who defends minorities more often.. but I sincerely do try my best to do my own part. I do seek a dialog with people from different groups that might be misunderstanding my views and seek to educate them about what media chooses to deliberately keep from us. And I believe that all of us should do the same. Most of us here live in a free country and hey, it's not only our right but our duty as citizens of that free country to speak up.
