  • Nazia or Aisha on TIME's cover?

Recently, TIME magazine published a story, ‘The Plight of Afghan Women: A Disturbing Picture,’ and on its cover page put the photo of a woman described in the article as Aisha, alleging that her nose was cut off by the Taliban.
I doubt the story is true; I wrote a blog post about this woman a few days after the incident happened in December 2007. I was the only schribe publishing her photos on the internet which led some organizations to help in her surgery and safety.

More details and photos here http://www.abdulhadihairan.com/?p=704

            Hairan,
Though I did not agree with you on other topics, I think you hit the target here.
            The two women look similar.
OF COURSE it was Aisha/Nazia's husband who did this. After all he already KILLED his first wife.

Maybe she was drugged or bribed to say it was a Taliban judge.
The whole campaign to push this image on the world came from the side of evil.

Why don't you be example of shining Truth in Journalism and investigate this?
Where is the brother of the husband now, as a start, maybe he would give some leads.

I'm glad this came to light. If it's not the same woman, then at least there is a proven precedent for this type of case.
But I'm nearly sure they are the same.

The wicked husband and Nazia/Aisha moved from eastern Paktia, like maybe Khost or Urgun or ?
What about getting a description or photo - maybe that's impossible. However,
you could go check and see what you could dig up.

It would be a strange parallel to the First 'Afghan Girl'. The National Geographic photographer went back to the villages
and asked around til he found her twenty years later.

This would be a big service to the country to expose this shabby campaign to malign Afghan culture.
            TRY!

In the Quran its said that you can't hit your wife on face or damage it etc..if the western media show this as islamic then its proves that this is war against Islam.

Valuable contribution, Master khan. Great, that makes what's going on even more clear.

The fact is that domestic violence is horrifically rampant in the U.S. There is a good book about this which explains how to detect the warning signs before actual violent behavior happens. If anyone is interested, tell me, I can list it. It's good to arm oneself with if you're a woman in today's world no matter what.

The author, a true expert who long studied the field, firmly maintains that there is no culture or country where domestic violence is WORSE than another; they are ALL the same across the board.

Hence why is there no "American girl" on the cover? After all, if there were sincere caring on the part of the editors to stop this type of violence overall, wouldn't they publish about problems where their readers will be most interested, North America?

To put a girl who was a victim of domestic violence - probably - on the COVER to drum up support for a military campaign was, at best!, sinister.

You guys have to save the national honor of Afghanistan and expose this for what it was!

There may well be more to uncover too about how this story came to be.
Hairan or anyone who is intrepid to track down what those details are will be deserving of an Islamic Prize for Excellence in Reporting!
