Unknown armed men assassinated commander of auxiliary police along with five of his men in Kunduz province north of Afghanistan, a local official said Sunday. "Unknown armed men raided the house of Ghulam Hussain, the commander of auxiliary police, in Imam Sahib district late Saturday night and killed him along with five of his men," district chief of Imam Sahib Mohammad Ayub Haqyar told Xinhua.
He blamed the attack on the enemies of peace, a term used against Taliban militants but the outfit has yet to make comment.
A relatively peaceful province in northern Afghanistan, Kunduz has been the scene of increasing Taliban activities since beginning this year and the insurgents often target government interests and NATO-led troops based there.
