    'It's a catastrophe... and that's no overstatement',
    Adam Mynott, BBC

The worst floods in Pakistan's history have hit at least 14 million people, the government relief agency says. According to Gen Nadeem Ahmed, of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), that figure only covers Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa and Punjab provinces. The full figure is likely to be much higher, with at least half a million evacuated in Sindh.

"We have an atom bomb, but we have no helicopters and boats for rescue, no machinery to clear the roads and build temporary bridges quickly. We are just not geared to enable people in a crisis,"

    Mohammad Haroon, Lawyer, Nowshera, BBC

A gigantic task is ahead to rehabilitate the flood victims. Rs.60 billions will be needed to return to the square one. Inaccessibility is hampering the task. Every one is needed to do his share.

We also dont have any building codes that common sense dictates one should follow for flood zones. The width of river kabul in nowshera at one point is 1000 feet. How will a flooded river flow in 1000 feet.

Last year there was an earth quake in Haiti, thousands died. A ten fold stronger earthquake in Chile killed only a few hundred, only because peaple followed law and had building codes, a legitimate society and had the foresight to foresee natural calamities, not sit around blamming america.

Its not a good thing to label stuff as curse of allah. We do not have knowledge of why Allah does what he wills.

What we do know is that he has given us guidance. And would the Pakistani government have understood the guidance, they would have spent more money and invested more effort to ease the suffering of its people.

But what can you expect from a government founded by an Ismaili who happened to be a British agent.

Pakistan is the epicentre of Sufism. Infact, the president himself is a graveworshiper:

When a country does not care about education this is what you expect --we are talking about a nation that sides with the USA saying they will defeat the Taliban but on the other side they are nurturing the Taliban. How pathetic and sick is that?

We should not be happy with this since it has affected our land. If it would have been in Punjab by the Army base or Rawalpindi I would have been much happier.
I am not happy that any human suffers, whether pashtoon or panjabay. But this is as close to self inflicted as one can get. I hope we can learn from this. Just hoping for that.

I might not be as intelligent as you when it comes to politics but I can tell you a few things from common sense.

Pakistan will never learn from this. International community will just pledge billions of Aid to Punjab, they will pocket 80 percent of it and further strengthen their military. We have learned an important lesson, at least I did. Pakistan is not our friend.

                  Welcome to the community.

i find this more tragic than the rest...

as for the rest of you, afghans have been suffering from a civil war for over 30 years. what do you suppose God is punishing us for? actually what i would rather like to know is where the **** is your bloody sense of empathy?

giving charity doesn't give you the right to look down at people claiming God is punishing them for something.

                        deera manana,

amana khooray, i did not mean for pakistan to learn, I meant that pashtoons will not learn from it. Some of them will continue to sing pakistani songs, and look up chest deep in filthy water at a pak army helicopter for salvation.

And as far as pakistan is concerned. The sooner the international community eradicates the failed state of Pakistan the better for the whole of humanity.
