  • Fascist anti muslim govt of Bangladesh arrest aidworker for assisting Rohingya

A French national working with an Islamic NGO has been arrested in Bangladesh, reportedly accused of "suspicious activities" that could mean up to 10 years in jail. He was working with the Rohingya minority, Muslims who have fled Buddhist-majority Myanmar.

Puemo Tchantchuing, who prefers to be known as Moussa Ibn Yacoub since his conversion to Islam, was arrested on Tuesday 22 December and has been detained since then.

As well as being accused of "suspicious activities", punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment, he may be charged with using a false identity, because the name he uses is not the one on his passport and identity card, according to lawyer Samim Bolaky.

He was working for the French-based NGO Baraka City, which says he was stopped at a checkpoint while going to schools and orphanages in the south of the country where the Rohingya camps are situated.

"He is being kept in catastrophic conditions in cells that contain more than 40 prisoners," Bolaky said.

He also faces charges for not registering with the authorities, according to Baraka City, which says that since the Rohingya are considered illegal immigrants it is not possible for the NGO to declare its presence legally.

The French embassy in Bangladesh has provided the "usual protection" and he is waiting to appear in court, France's foreign ministry said.

Baraka City, which was founded by strict Salafist Muslims, manages a budget of several million euros.

French police have searched its premises several times and its bank accounts have been closed on more than one occassion but no connection to terrorist groups has ever been established.

Over 97,000 people had signed a Facebook petition for the detained man's release on Sunday afternoon.

Bangladesh has done a great job dealing with extremists, I am not saying he is one, and I am sure they will do a proper investigation, but overall Bangladesh resistance of extremists has been great and should be followed by other south asian countries like Pakistan

I was reading an article on how Saudis are pushing extremist Wahabhi/Salafi ideology on the beautiful islands of Maldives in South Asia. I would hate to see a beautiful tropical paradise like that turn in to a Wahabhi paradise. South Asians can't just deal with this time of extremism. Its not in our blood

i don't think he was arrested because the government did not like him helping these people. he may be inspiring and supporting their need for independence of some sort and the government felt threatened by his "suspicious activities". if a government doesn't have time or resources enough in it's hand to feed it's poor, it's not going to waste time and resources to persecute some innocent man just for feeding the poor.

I agree, we shouldnt trust these organizations just because they travel all the way from Europe to Bangladesh without any government or political support and risk their own lives to spend from their own wealth. They should be considered as a threat because they collect money from people who show concern for the fate of Rohingya's and distribute the money and aid among refugees who are abandoned and neglected by the state in Bangladesh.

            Very suspicious and extremely dangerous.

but you do know that non of government function on the basis of moral or ethical values, rather work from legal or illegal perspective. the news says he forged his identity. well if that is not suspicious than nothing is suspicious at all. he was arrested not beheaded, even if it was a reign of Umar bin khittab RA, this man will face the same fate.

sarcasm is not for idiots. he is offended because a country is daring to take it's national defense seriously. how dare they. who are they to not allow these terrorists from entering their country in the name of feeding the poor and not rape them politically and otherwise, instead.

this is a typical Marxist way of thinking: any sort of relief work should be done by a government or not at all. Anyone who does help others must have evil intentions.

He is a convert to Islam. Like most converts, he uses a new name but all his documents mention his original name.

NGO is not some small organization of just one person. It is very well known in France and he didn't enter Bangladhesh illegally or with false documents.

The fascist kaafir government of Bangladhesh is against any efforts to help Rohingyas because Hasina is an ally of the Birmese government.

By making up excuses and defending Bangladesh you reveal why you are an ANP supporter. When Russians invaded Afghanistan and bombed entire villages, ANP leaders would try to frustrate any aid effort for Affhan refugees in Pakhtunkhwa. They even obtained weapons from Kabul regime and attacked civilians in those camps.
