Report: Israeli Air Force attacked Hezbollah targets in Syria

Defense officials declined to comment on the report.

Israeli fighter jets penetrated Syrian airspace and attacked numerous Hezbollah targets in the South of Syria, according to Syrian media Saturday.

Estimated targets included a weapons convoy destined for Hezbollah fighters traveling through Syria. According to reports, up to a dozen Israeli war planes conducted the mission close to the Lebenon-Syria border in the Qalamoun Mountains region.

Defense officials declined to comment on the report.

This would be the first attack attributed to Israel since Russia began operating in the area.

Israel has reportedly struck Hezbollah in Syria several times over the past year, although the military regularly declines to comment on foreign media reports.

Earlier this year, the Israel Air Force reportedly struck a vehicle located in a Druse village in southwestern Syria, killing Hezbollah men and a pro-Assad militiaman, as well as a military base in Lebanon.

The Druse village, Hader, is located near the Golan Heights.

The second strike targeted a Lebanese military installation near the Syrian border, wounding six, Arab media reported. It is believed to belong to a pro-Syrian Palestinian faction. In a newsflash, Syrian state television quoted a military source as saying that Israeli planes had struck a base belonging to the Damascus-based Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command, a faction that backs President Bashar Assad.

The earlier strike on the Syrian Druse village allegedly involved an Israeli drone attack on a car on the outskirts of Hader. That attack killed three members of a militia fighting alongside the Syrian military. The attack was reported by Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV and other Lebanese media.

The dead were identified as members of the National Defense Forces, a pro-Damascus militia whose members often come from the areas where they fight.

Yaakov Lappin and Ariel Ben Solomon contributed to this report.

After reports of Israeli strikes in Syria, Ya'alon issues warning

Defense minister spoke three days after international media reports claimed Israel struck targets in Syria, said Israel has zero tolerance for weapons trafficking to terrorists.

Israel will respond with zero tolerance to cross-border artillery fire from Syria, weapons trafficking to terrorists, and the distribution of chemical weapons to terrorists, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said on Tuesday.

Ya’alon spoke at a kibbutz leadership conference at Kibbutz Ma’aleh Hahamisha outside Jerusalem. The defense minister’s comments came three days after international media reports claimed Israeli aircraft carried out air strikes in Syrian airspace, reportedly attacking numerous Hezbollah targets in the Qalamoun mountain region near the Lebanese border, possibly to intercept a weapons convoy to Lebanon.

It was the first reported attack attributed to Israel since Russia began providing air support to the Assad regime and its allies, who are fighting rebels on the ground.

“Those who cross the red lines will be hit,” Ya’alon warned. He also referred to the humanitarian crisis afflicting Syrian villages near the Israeli border, adding that Israel is seeking to provide villagers with blankets, medicines, fuel and any additional required humanitarian assistance.

Referring to Hamas in Gaza, Ya’alon said, “We are conducting a policy that is leading to a reality in which Hamas is deterred from escalating the situation. We see Hamas’s willingness to accept a cease-fire, and not to join in the current round of terrorism. This is not because they have turned Zionists, but because of the price they paid in Operation Protective Edge.

“I know the slogans that say ‘let’s topple and let’s destroy,’ and I say, think things through to the end before acting,” Ya’alon cautioned.

Regionally, Ya’alon said, “there is a new division [of areas among] hostile camps,” naming the Shi’ite-Iranian axis on one side, and the Muslim Brotherhood, which includes Turkey, Qatar and global jihadist organizations on the other.

“The strategic, diplomatic and security challenge is the message we are getting about the unwillingness of too many elements to recognize our right to exist as the nation state of the Jewish people. Arafat and [PA President Mahmoud] Abbas also do not want to end the conflict on the ’67 borders,” he added.
"The past is not my concern. The future is no longer my concern either. One minute. One minute of everything at once. And anything before is nothing. Everything after nothing. Nothing in comparison to that one minute."

Report: Israel Bombs Syrian Missile Base

        BY: Morgan Chalfant
        November 2, 2015 3:14 pm
Israel reportedly bombed a missile base used by President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria near the country’s border with Lebanon on Sunday, destroying multiple missile warehouses.
“Israeli planes breached Lebanese and Syrian airspace and bombed the Syrian regime’s 155th Brigade [base] in the Qutayfa area, destroying a number of missile warehouses,” sources told a pro-rebel news outlet, NOW Syria reported.
A Syrian activist also told the news outlet that Israeli planes “entered Syrian territory from Lebanon at 9:30 p.m. [Sunday] and bombed Scud missile warehouses belonging to the regime.”
“The planes bombed three warehouses containing Scud missiles at the 155th Brigade [base] in western Qalamoun’s Qutayfa area, completely destroying the above-ground [installations],” Ahmad Yabrudi, the activist, stated.
The base was reportedly one of the primary ones from where Syrian government forces had been firing Scud missiles at areas controlled by rebels combatting the regime, meaning the alleged airstrike would deal a blow to Assad’s fight against insurgents.
A pro-Hezbollah news outlet also reported the air strike, an anonymous source explaining that the Israeli planes did not breach Syrian airspace but launched the strike from Lebanese territory.
The report comes just days after pro-rebel outlets claimed that Israel bombed two sites in Syria on Friday, one belonging to the regime and the other to Hezbollah, according to Haaretz.
