  • Bionic Pancreas and DM1

    Randolph

This may be good news for you and other DM1 folks. The issue up to now is that Glucagon was not able to be sustained in a liquid formulation (which is why the kids all have the pill you break up with sterile water)... it seems like Damiano came up wiith a solution that will hit the scene in 2017.

    Enjoy Bro.

These "artificial pancreases" are the future of type 1 diabetes treatment. I have gotten tired of reading in the last 10 years how many times rats have been cured a dozen different ways but with no human trials in sight. The technology in these devices are as good to me as a cure. There are still stumbling blocks when it comes to the implant which serves as a real time measuring device and the intricate algorithm's in play but the next few years of this tech is very promising.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

yea I think the difference here is harnessing glucagon, if I recall correctly. So now the two hormones that regulate blood sugar either up or down are in one device.

I am currently studying transplant, and the heart and the kidneys transplantation issues may variate from pancreatic islet cell transplantation - but what I can say is that its a tricky thing that remains as much an art as it does a science.

We are still so very much in a rudimentary phase of organ transplantation that we lack large scale trials to guide the way since these precious resources remain limited.

The side effect of the immunomodulator drugs are a mess in and of themselves.

In 50 to 60 years we may look back on this time and think it was crazy that we do some of what we do.

For now, at least in the external device form that Damiano seems to offer - this may be the best option in the pipeline and it actually appears to be a great option for gaining some degree of normalcy.
