Malala Speaks Out In Support Of Myanmar's Rohingya Muslims

Posted: 06/08/2015 3:58 pm EDT Updated: 06/08/2015 3:59 pm EDT

Malala Yousafzai is calling on world leaders and officials in Myanmar to stop the persecution of the country’s Rohingya Muslims.
“The Rohingyas deserve citizenship in the country where they were born and have lived for generations. They deserve equal rights and opportunities,” the 17-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner said in a statement. “They deserve to be treated like we all deserve to be treated -– with dignity and respect.”
Stripped of citizenship and subject to violence and discrimination, the Rohingya Muslims have been fleeing Myanmar in recent months. Thousands of migrants have been rescued off the coasts of neighboring countries after escaping by boat.
Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, has denied that the Rohingya are being persecuted in the majority Buddhist country.
However, multiple international human rights groups, like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have spoken out against the persecution of the Rohingya. The United Nations refugee agency has called them one of the most persecuted minorities in the world.
Yousafzai is an education campaigner and girls’ rights activist. She co-founded the Malala Fund after she was shot by the Taliban in 2012 for her progressive ideas. The organization has supported girls in Pakistan, Kenya, Sierra Leone and Nigeria. Yousafzai became interested in the plight of refugees while working to secure access to education for Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon.
“Today and every day, I stand with the Rohingyas,” Yousafzai said in the statement. “And I encourage people everywhere to do so.”

"The past is not my concern. The future is no longer my concern either. One minute. One minute of everything at once. And anything before is nothing. Everything after nothing. Nothing in comparison to that one minute."

At least Malala who is human rights activist speaks against it and tries to bring awarness about the issue.

The crisis in Myanmar has reached proportions of the ethnic cleansing that went on in Bosnia. It has eclipsed it in the sheer horror of what is going on simply due to Rohingya being Muslims.

To some extent, China has been giving shelter to Rohingya on the border.

Myanmar military is also persecuting and fighting against an ethnic Chinese insurgency in the country. Rohingya's are not the only people that Myanmar is persecuting, just the most vulnerable.

China is backing the semi-Communist United Wa State Army which is the largest insurgent group battling the Myanmar military.

Security analysts say Beijing has supplied advanced weapons to rebel United Wa State Army, fighting Burmese troops along their shared border

Aside from providing space for refugees, Bangladesh has not taken any other role in helping the Rohingya.

Im quite suprised CNN was not all over this considering the way they tried to use Malala (Amanpour bringing Malala onto her show) for their own narrative which promoted war. I think they stopped talking about Malala when she refused to sing their tune, and gave her support for peace talks. Malala also made it clear she opposed drone strikes.

I do not why Muslims are always in trouble? Are they cursed people? I see thousands of them travelling to Europe for better future at the risk of their lives. Rohingyas are also wandering for their fortune and land. Every major current conflict in the world (except Ukraine) has to do with Muslims.

It's complex, Many factors are involved and more over those factors partition over the landscape of different interests among Muslims and for Muslims.

But in my opinion it can summarized as follows:

a.) Islam a comprehensive way of thinking and largely revolutionary in its character, thereby there will always be this zeal and encouragement to resist and revolt against anything contradictory to the Islamic Worldview.

b.) The global undercurrent is that many factors both internally and externally are converging to compel Muslims to abandon or compromise Islamic worldview to conform to the global zeitgeist which in turn inspires more resistance

c.) Power dynamic galvanizes conflict by its very nature to restore balance of power in favor of Muslims.

In my opinion, the three points I listed here can be used to model more finer detailed points which can fall under these categories.

for me their are two kinds of troubeld muslims.

1 Muslims who failed to modernize and get with the development with the rest of the world

2 Muslims who were invaded or discriminated against.

Rohingyas are the second type, they were systimaticaly discriminated and prosecuted and the rest of the muslims world turned their back against them and were to busy about preaching how a woman shoud dress and making fatwas against polio vaccines.

What is the world view of Islam? What is so revolutionary about Islam? Was it a revolution when the rich culture of Mecca was destroyed by Muhammad who banned fine arte, philospphy and science and focused only in Quran and his traditions. No músic, no dance, no sculpture ,no literature!

Was it a revolution when Ali fought Ayesha and thousands were killed or when Hussain was brutally murdered or when Abbasids dug the graves of Umayads to buen their dead bodies or Auragzeb killed his brothers for power or Saudí killing innocent Yemenis daily?

What is so good or so revolutionary about Islam or Islalism. I love only Sufí Islam.

Islam is revolutionary because it is comprehensive, it's entire model of human life is based on one overarching theory, that existence, and in this case human existence is to realize a Higher Reality by managing human affairs by higher principles Also it decrees people to take action to champion this cause. This is the worldview of Islam

In response to your questions, In a way yes, what Muhammad was revolutionary, because the culture of the Pagan Arabs acted as a vice that held him back, and through him a richer culture based on higher principles emerged. Even if you talk about art, the Art of the Middle East after Islam, the Art was much more intricate and detailed, based on a higher understanding of mathematical structure and cosmic themes.

The other incidences you mention, Aurangzeb, Saudis etc. have no bearing on the revolutionary nature of Islam, because the Islamic objective is still retained, despite these diversions. Sufi Islam is just the Spiritual expression of Islam, there's really no distinction between them nor can they be separated. The Aim of Sufism is just to give people Enlightenment so they can realize the Deeper meaning of Shari'ah.
