  • US statedept declassified: America & Afghanistan killed PM Liaqat Ali Khan

ISLAMABAD- Americans murdered the first elected prime minister of Pakistan through the Afghan government, declassified documents of US State Department disclosed.

Like a number of other high-profile killings, the assassination of Liaquat Ali Khan, has also remained a mystery. Conspiracy theories abound, yet are difficult to substantiate.

It was revealed in the documents declassified a few years ago that two persons killed the murderer of Liaquat Ali Khan at the spot while crowd also massacred the two persons in order to leave no sign of the conspiracy.

According to the documents, the United States wanted to get contracts of oil resources in Iran. Pakistan and Iran enjoyed cordial ties and Afghanistan used to be the enemy of Pakistan during 1950-51. The neighboring Afghanistan was the only country that didn’t accept Pakistan at that time.

The US demanded Pakistan use its influence in Tehran and persuade it to transfer control of its oil fields to the US.

Liaquat Ali Khan declined to accede to the request, saying that he would not use his friendship for dishonest purposes. On which, then US President Harry Truman had threatened Liaquat Ali Khan. Not only that, Liaquat Ali Khan also asked US to vacate air bases in Pakistan within next 24 hours, dropping a bombshell on Americans.

Americans didn’t find a suitable person in Pakistan and then turned to Afghanistan for this purpose, according to the documents.

Washington contacted the US Embassy in Kabul, offering Zahir Shah to search a murderer.

Afghan government had found a man Syed Akbar to take the job and also made arrangements for him to be killed on the spot. All three stayed at a local hotel in Rawalpindi.

Akbar fired and Liaquat Ali Khan fell, saying Allah help Pakistan.

The bullets used to kill the Pakistani prime minister were not easily available in the market.

Different theories have been presented on the murder of first elected premier of the country. However, the declassified documents have clarified the matter.

No. That is absolute nonsense. According to declassified US documents Liaqat Ali Khan was killed by some deep conspiracy within the Paki military and defence ministry which at that time were lead by General Ayub Khan and Sikander Mirza. Involved also was civil bureaucracy represented by Malak Ghulam Muhammad.

But it seems US and UK either shut eyes to the killing or simply approved the elimination of Liaqat Ali Khan because they feared in the absence of a strong govt there would be communist revolution especially in East Pakistan where there were Moists active.

According to another important research work (death of pakistan's democracy), Punjabi lobby involving Malak Ghulam Muhammad, Mushtaq Ahmad Gormani, and defence and military officials were involved.

That argument holds no water. How could they have achieved their goal of establishing Loy Afghanistan by killing Liaqat Ali Khan? Almost all sources except some Pakistanis say Punajbi military and civil bureaucracy was involved.

Baigan Rana Liaqat Ali Khan would later blackmail Pakistani officials by placing a demand for the investigation of her husband's murder.

he was punjabi himself, why kill him? Iskandar was bengali and Ayub Hindkowan, so this was not punjabi lobby, and General Akbar Khan wanted a marxist revolution in pak on behest of soviets -soviets were supporters of Afghanistan, so they killed L.A.K

her blackmailing was just political scoring, it's widely believe the laal topis and laal kameezs killed him

Liaqat Ali Khan was an Urdu-speaking immigrant from Karnal that claimed descent from ancient Iranian emperors. He was the main promoter of the economic and political interests of Urdu-speaking elite. He favoured Urdu-speaking banking elite, politician, and bureaucracy which the Punjabis deeply resented. Furthermore, he was trying to use Punjabi feudal elite like Mumtaz Daulatana etc. to control Punjab which the newly emerged Punjabi middle classes didn't like.

There is a good book on the topic. "Pakistan ki siyasi tarikh-Punjabi Mahajir tazad".

As for General Ayub Khan he spoke Potohari the common language of the area that he came from. He along with higher Punjabi bureaucracy directly benefited from the elimination of Liaqat Ali Khan.

This of course was also in line with the strategy and interests of Western powers who wanted someone strong to rule Pakistan to suppress potential communist uprisings.

As for Sikander Mirza he was Bengali but long settled in West Pakistan and no longer had any affinity in terms of interests with Bengal. The guy in reality was a British agent and according to declassified documents was in deep contact with Western embassies in particular British and American embassies.

There was no common interest between US and Afghanistan to hatch a conspiracy to kill Liaqat Ali Khan.

Liaqat Ali Khan like Bhutto and Benazir had been killed by the Punjabi military and civil bureaucracy who can't see any other group except Punjabis to rule Pakistan. Zaradari is an example. Although, Nawaz Sharif is far more corrupt than Zaradari yet one could see the Punjabi generals continuously conspiring to destabilize Zaradari govt or to demanize him in the last term .

Now General Punjab Sharif is pulling along well with Nawaz Sharif on the condition that Punjabi generals will be the ultimate decision makers whereas Punjabi civilians will run the civilian govt in a subservient position.

at least read before commenting. He was not a punjabi. Also we know what was happening in the 1950's. Urduspeakers at the time were the most educated people, Punjabis were not, this is why they felt jealous and even moved the capital city from Karachi to Punjab. A lot a reasons why a terrorist organization like (MQM) was made because of what was happening in the 1950's, 60's and 70's
