General-Sher-Mohammed-KarimThe Afghan National Army Chief of Staff, Gen. Sher Mohammad Karimi has said that no agreement has been finalized with Pakistan to conduct a joint operation against the militant groups.
According to Gen. Karimi, the Afghan government has only agreed to close coordination regarding any operation to eliminate the terrorism safe havens on the two sides of Durand Line.
“There have been no discussions in this regard (joint operations). Within the military cooperation frame work, there is a shared view that the both countries should not allow terrorists when an operations is launched,” Gen. Karimi quoted by Radio Free Europe said.
This comes as the Pakistan’s foreign affairs advisor, Sartaj Aziz, has earlier said that an agreement has been reached to launch a joint operation, involving the Afghan army, Pakistan military and the NATO-led coalition security forces.
The remarks by Aziz were followed by top Pakistani security officials’s visit to Kabul following a deadly attack on Peshawar school that left over 130 people dead, mostly school children.
The Pakistani officials claimed that the attack was masterminded by Taliban commander Umar Naray from Afghanistan, who was issuing directives to militants for carrying out the attack.
The officials further added that the issue was shared with the Afghan military and NATO in Afghanistan after the communications of the Taliban commander was intercepted which helped to trace his location and whereabouts.
