“Our air defense unit managed at 19:40 local time [16:40 GMT] to target and hit an [Israeli] F-16 with a surface-to-air missile over Deir al-Balah city in central Gaza, as the plane was preparing to strike a target,” the brigades said in a brief statement.

The Ezzeddin al-Qassam Brigades, the military arm of Hamas, said early Wednesday that its fighters have managed to hit an Israeli F-16 warplane over the Gaza Strip.
“Our air defense unit managed at 19:40 local time [16:40 GMT] to target and hit an [Israeli] F-16 with a surface-to-air missile over Deir al-Balah city in central Gaza, as the plane was preparing to strike a target,” the brigades said in a brief statement.
The statement gave no further details, and the Israeli army is yet to comment.
The brigades in earlier statements had announced that it shot down three Israeli drones in separate incidents over Gaza since the Israeli army commenced a wide-scale military operation against the Palestinian enclave earlier this month.
Since July 7, Israel has pounded the Gaza Strip with fierce aerial bombardments with the ostensible aim of halting rocket fire.
At least 635 Palestinians have been killed – mostly civilians – and more than 4000 others injured in Israel's ongoing offensive, now in its third week.
Gaza-based resistance factions, meanwhile, have continued to fire rocket at Israeli cities in response to relentless Israeli bombardments.
According to official Israeli figures, 28 Israeli soldiers and two civilians have been killed since the hostilities began.
Israel's military operation, dubbed "Operation Protective Edge," is the self-proclaimed Jewish state's third major offensive against the densely-populate Gaza Strip – which is home to some 1.8 million Palestinians – within the last six years.
In 2008/9, over 1500 Palestinians were killed in Israel's three-week-long "Operation Cast Lead."

see this is the part I dislike about Hamas, why are they showing off? What will this achieve? Israel will probably kill another thousand innocent Palestinians just for this incident alone. Do they think they can retake Palestinian land by these random rocket attacks? I actually know some Palestinians here in Canada who hate Hamas.

If Israel wanted too, it can take all land from Palestinians in less then a day. This is the hard reality my friend. These rockets are not doing anything for the Palestinian people.

In my opinion both Palestinians and Israelis need to except the 1967 borders. This is the only possible peaceful solution to the problem. The whole world must work for this to make it happen. There is no way Palestinine will look like was it was before 1947, because Israel and Jews are not going anywhere. This is the harsh truth people must face.

What is the whole muslim world doing for the Palestinians? Trust me, Saudis, Egyptians, Pakistanis etc.. wont do much if Israel takes all the land. Muslims as a whole are sleeping. Israel can easily take all of Middle East if it ever wanted too. It is one of the strongest country's in the world

you are going here and there.... who said muslim would do anything for palestinians... i said every muslims country is will do something for their own defense. muslim countries have never done anything good for the other you have examples of irag, afghanistan, palestine and so many many.... everyone thinks of their own. they are waiting for their own turn.

Israel is no different and depends entirely on the relationship it has with one nation, the US which itself is reorienting its policies with more devotion to domestic than foreign. Even if some Republican wins the election (which is unlikely), there won't be money for any more wars. As this continues, the US ability to take out loans diminishes. There is more behind the reason why US money to nations like Pakistan will stop.

All these nations that have depended on the US for economic and security/military ties are in the same boat, and no Israeli lobby can change China's decision to sell off US treasury (convince me otherwise with evidence). China (like Russia) is an authoritarian regime that can not be controlled by any lobby group. Lobbying only works with democracies.

US domestic policy is now more important than its foreign policy.
