are you living in the 14th century? How are raids like that even possible today?

Tanks and aircraft have replaced the horses and camels. Swords and lances have been replaced by guns and bombs. The people are same. Hindu Kush is same. Hindustan is same.

But that makes a difference. It is no longer a war on the horse back. And there is no reason for war in the first place until for war-booty yanai "malai-ghanimath" acquisition of which is also highly unlikely in today's world of universal morality.

I believe you are wrong. Nothing has changed - not even ma'ale ghanimat.

So what if people are the same? India today is one of the strongest country's in the world military wise. How will some random groups defeat them? again you are living in some Islamic fantasy land which doesn't exist anymore. The world has completely changed

Karachi, wisely said. Sometimes I get disappointed are people stuck in the past living in an imaginary world that is not realizable in any way.

Without past there is no present or future. Past, present and future are all connected with a single thread. History teaches us that it invariably repeats itself. Powers emerging from Persia-Afghanistan-C Asia will again follow the roads travelled by Sultan Mahmud Ghazna, Mohammad Ghori, Amir Taimur, Babur, Nadir Shah and Ahmad Shah Baba.

One key difference - the development of the nuclear deterrent and the concept of mutually assured destruction (MAD).

Interestingly enough when going back some of the most peaceful decades (relatively) in world history were when the bipolar powers developed their nuclear deterrents. People stepped to the brink in Kennedy's era and realized that this was dangerous stuff for the survival of humanity. These powers then decided that it was in their vested interests to not ever escalate to that level of warfare.

In some ways the fact that India and Pakistan developed their nuclear deterrents has also resulted in a period of some minor border skirmishes but no overt war like there was in the past. My guess is this is because of that same concept of MAD making it so that Pakistan and India both know they have a heck of a lot to lose if they escalate.
