  • Iraq Kurdistan independence referendum planned

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-28103124

All of the above Isrealis ALSO backed KURD to divide Iraq.
The extremist shai leader Maliki should be ashamed of his extremists policies wich lead his country to partition.

It was the agenda of US from the start to draw new boundries in Iraq AND FINALLY THAT MOVEMENT HAS COME.

Gadoonwal sahab, do you know that the Kurds of Iraq have historically had a similar situation to the Pashtuns of Pakistan (i.e. have similarly been a marginalized group subject to the terror, murder and brutality of their own state)? Do you not support the right to self determination for the Pashtuns of Pakistan? So why would you not support the Kurds in their right to self determination?

The situation of the Kurds is a bit different then ours. They have been fighting for an independent homeland ever since the ottoman empire partitioned while Pashtuns have always had one. The Kurds only hope for a separate country were the british until they decided to lump them into one country with other ethnic groups and were basically forced to live together (much like pakistan) however, unlike Pashtuns who have a right to claim the Pashtun territories in KPK and northern balochistan and are the native people there, other ethnic groups around the kurds believe they are a new arrival and feel like they are "stealing" their land. For instance the Assyrians who are native to northern iraq think that the kurds are wrong in including mosul (Nineveh) in their Kurdistan since it was the ancient capital of their empire.

People are going to also have to take into consideration of their history. There is no pre-islamic mention of Kurds other then a median connection but its baseless to claim land on an empire which basically spanned over 3 countries. According to some historians, the word "Kurd" means nomad and was used in reference to iranic tribes living in northwestern Iran who roamed the area around the Zagos and later absorbed people into their ethnicity who they encountered. Even Saladin belonged to Kurdified Arab tribe from iraq, which basically proves that kurds are a heterogenous ethnicity with multiple different origins and their vast diversity of different haplogroups proves it.

In a way i however think the kurds have a point when it comes to splitting iraq. That country itself was basically created by the british to keep arabs divided and at bay just like other middle eastern countries in the levant. However, i think with the current on-going problems in Iraq right now, kurds are taking full advantage of it and could possibly achieve and independent Kurdistan.
