Movement launched for united Pakhtunkhwa province

    2014-04-13 08:51:31

PESHAWAR: A civil society organisation has announced Pakhtunkhwa Olasi Tehreek to work for united Pakhtunkhwa province comprising all Pakhtun population in different parts of the country.

The announcement was made during a one-day seminar at Peshawar Press Club on Saturday, which was held under the auspices of Watan Welfare Society (WWS). Representatives of different political parties and civil society organisations, including Usman Khalil, Shahabuddin Khattak, Alamzeb, Dr Mushtaq, Arbab Shehryar and Zahir Shah Safi, expressed their views on the occasion.

About the purpose of the movement, Pakhtunkhwa Olasi Tehreek convener Dr Said Alam Mehsud said that it was aimed at making efforts for united Pakhtunkhwa province which would comprise Fata, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Pakhtun-dominated areas from Balochistan up to Margalla Hills.

He said that under the supervision of WWS the tehreek would strive for merger of KP, Fata and all other areas belonging to Pakhtuns in the country as a constitutional right of the people.

Dr Mehsud said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been blessed with abundant natural resources, including water, minerals, forests, oil, gas, tobacco, coal, marble etc, but the people were not given ownership of these resources. He urged the government to give complete authority to the people concerning their rights to use resources of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said the educational institutions had been ruined in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, and asked the government to take proactive steps for reconstruction of buildings to revive education activities in the terrorism-affected regions. He demanded of the government to increase education budget and ensure free and compulsory education in the province. It was stated that power and gas loadshedding was unconstitutional and unlawful, and the people would not accept this in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It was said that the federal government should ensure the payment of arrears of net hydel profit to KP without delay.

Other speakers claimed that power and gas theft in Punjab was much higher than in KP and Fata, but even then State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali was using derogatory language against Pakhtuns for unknown reasons. They warned that such remarks by a minister were intolerable for Pakhtuns and asked him to mind his language.

Mr Khattak said that discrimination was always made with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in distribution of education scholarships and share in special employment initiative. He demanded equal share in the facilities and control over the resources, saying that the KP and Fata needed special attention.

Movement to merge Fata, other: Pushtoon belts into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa launched

    April 13, 2014 RECORDER REPORT 0 Comments

A movement was launched to make struggle for merger of Federally Administrated Tribal Areas and other Pushtoon areas into the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and attainment of all constitutional rights of K-P. The "Pakhtunkhwa Aolasi Tehreek" (Pakhtunkhwa traditional movement) under auspices of Watan Welfare Society (WWS), started here on Friday.

In this connection, the organisation arranged a seminar at Peshawar Press Club in which the WWS chairman Dr Saeed Alam Maqsood, Dr Mushtaq, Zahir Shah Safi, Arbab Shehyar, and Shahab Khattak Advocate, representatives from social society organisations were participated. During the seminar, the participants were informed about basic aims and objectives of the movement, which include the merger of Fata, Balochistan, and other Pakhtuns areas into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has blessed with abundant of rich water, mineral and natural resources, but it was not given ownership rights on these resources and a demand was made to give complete rights on own resources to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The movement said the education institutions have been ruined under pre-plan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata, and asked the government to take proactive steps for reconstruction of schools to revive education activities in terrorism-affected KP and tribal region. It demanded to increase education budget up to 10 percent, and to ensure free and compulsory education in the province.

Under the objectives of movement it was stated that the load shedding of electricity and gas was completely unconstitutional and unlawful, and would not accept further force load shedding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It said that Federal government is using delaying tactics in arrears of Net-hydel profit, demanding to release immediately.

The movement objective further entailed that the power thefts are higher in Punjab as compared to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and asked the federal government to abstain its Minister of State for Water and Power, Abid Sher Ali for derogatory statements, which is completely intolerable to accuse Pakhtuns as electricity thefts.

The movement further said that discrimination was always made with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in distribution of education scholarships, and share in special-employment initiative, demanding to equal share and right to terrorism-ravaged Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata. It was also demanded to stop the killings of innocent people on name of war against terrorism in KP and tribal region, and asked to extend facilities and incentives to internally uprooted people, as per requirements and rule of United Nations. It further demanded the funds should be spending on KP and Fata, received from foreign donors and countries, on head of war against terrorism. The government should ensure protection of life and property of masses, and take effective steps to control the incidents of kidnapping for ransom, targeted killings, and extortion in the province, it demanded.

Dr Syed Alam Mehsud is a great leader.

If there was an independent Pakhtunkhwa he would be my choice for leader, though it is up to Pashtuns to decide.

Karak people block road against closure of power feeder

      Updated Apr 21, 2014 07:58am

KARAK: Thousands of residents of Shnwa Guddikhel took to streets and blocked Indus Highway for several hours here on Sunday to protest closure of Guddikhel power feeder.

They threatened to take arms if the government failed to restore power supply to the area. Led by former MNA Maulana Shah Abdul Aziz, the protesters marched from Seerak Banda to Hamidan Chowk where they blocked Indus Highway to traffic.

The traffic remained suspended for several hours and long queues of vehicles were seen on both sides of the highway, causing hardships to passengers. The protesters chanted slogans against Minister of State for Power Abid Sher Ali and federal government for closing the feeder.

Addressing the protesters, Shah Abdul Aziz and other speakers said that on the directives of federal state minister, Pesco closed down Shwna Guddikhel feeder that caused acute shortage of drinking water in the area.

They alleged that Pesco failed to devise a mechanism for payment of arrears by the consumers. They said that people were ready to pay the bills but they didn’t know how to pay the same.

The speakers said that the people took to streets owing to miseries being faced by them. They said that people would be forced to launch an armed protest if government failed to restore power supply to the area.

Later, Assistant Commissioner Ifran Wazir and DSP Gul Jamal Marwat negotiated with the elders of the protesters and assured them they would talk to the Pesco officials to resolve the issue.

ANNIVERSARY: Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) held a meeting here on Sunday to mark the fourth death anniversary of its leader Mohammad Khan Khattak.

Addressing on the occasion, PkMAP district general secretary Rafi Khattak and others paid rich tributes to Mohammad Khan, who killed in Karachi four years ago.

They criticised Mutahidda Qaumi Movement and held it responsible for worsening law and order situation in Karachi. They said that Pakhtuns should be united in a single province from Chitral to Bolan. They should be given control over their resources, they added.

The speakers said that Pashto should be declared an official language of the province and it should be made medium of instructions in educational institutions. They said that the demand of a separate Hazara province was unjustified and it was a conspiracy against Pakhtuns.

The speakers said that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf was rejected by the people of other three provinces and only Pakhtuns of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa voted it but it was harming Pakhtuns.

They alleged that the elected representatives of the district were involved in corruption.

      A couple of points

      1. Pashtuns of Pakistan are loyal to the concept of Pakistan and do not want to break away. In the first story above a few tribesmen from Karak threatened an armed revolt over lack of energy. This is just a few tribesmen from one of the less important areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, so imagine if a whole tribe of Pashtuns such as the Yusufzais or Khattaks rebelled, Islamabad would fall.

      2. The PMAP are continuing their calls for the unification of all Pashtun areas within the federation of Pakistan.

      3. They are calling for Pashto to be made a language of education.

      4. They have rejected the demand of Hazara separatists for a "Hazara province".

Shah Abdul Aziz, former "MNA" (Member of Pakistani National Assembly) and JUI (Jamat e Ulama Islam) figure led the Karak protest for power supply.

Alam Mehsud,Usman Khalil, Shahabuddin Khattak, Alamzeb, Dr Mushtaq, Arbab Shehryar and Zahir Shah Safi are not well known people or at least I do not know them.

Why not big weights like Asfandyar Wali, Mehmood Achakzai, Aftab Sherpao, Sikandar Sherpao etc do not struggle for the unification of Pashtuns under one province?

Some pictures of a PMAP meeting.

Most of the Pakhtoons pictured above look quite religious and pious with their beards. It is quite clear they seem no conflict between their faith and their ethnicity and their aspirations for greater social justice and freedoms.

This is important when considering the Punjabi-controlled Pakistani state uses "Islam" (their distortion of it) to ensure subservience from Pashtuns to the Punjabi-controlled Pakistani state.

This trick can only work for so long before people see through it.

Is Pakhthunkhwa really rich in minerals like Afghanistan is? I read on wiki that they found really no traces of minerals in Waziristan other than copper so i don't know if KPK is also blessed with abundant natural resources like south-eastern Afghanistan. Also if the merger of FATA and Baluchistan happens is this practically the step for an independent country? Personally i don't think pakistan will let this happen because of that fear.

                Intreating read though.

                  1. I don't think it has much to do with economics (though being administered in one province can make things more efficient) but living with your own people i.e. Pashtuns.

                  2. I don't know much about KPK economics you will have to ask someone like Toramana what I do know is the north of KPK e.g. Swat has tourism, the region produces electricity and there is also a marble industry.

                  3.

You might be right but Pashtuns have to try at least and if that ridiculous "Hazara province" is ever created (which I doubt) then Punjabis will have to allow the creation of other provinces or provincial border changes.

                  4. Even if a united Pakhtunkhwa province is created "from Chitral to Bolan" (a famous phrase) there will still be issues. Some Pashtuns in KPK e.g. Malakand feel their area is neglected by Peshawar and that the Peshawar valley is favoured etc.

Most Pashtuns in Pakistan are after a better life for their families more than anything else. Their families, their bellies are of more immediate concern to them than nationalism/ideology.
