Poetry session held in Swat after a long time

    2014-04-08 07:59:30

MINGORA: A large number of poets, writers and local people attended a poetry session held in Zarakhela area of the district after a long time.

The event, organised by Ghurzang Adabi Tolana, was presided over by prominent Pashto poet Abdur Rahim Roghani.

The local elders also showed happiness over holding of the event. The area hosted a poetry session after a long time, said Kishwar Khan, a local elder. He added that poets were spreading the message of peace and love through their poetry.

“Such sessions should also be held in future for promotion of Pashto literature,” Mr Khan said. He added that there was a lot of talent among the local people that could be polished by providing proper platform to them.

Mr Roghani and Hayat Khan of Ghurzang Adabi Tolana said on the occasion that poets described society in their poetry. They wanted to convey the message of peace to people of the area and to promote Pashto literature, they added.

They said that it was a good sign that they held the poetry session after several years. They would continue their struggle to provide a proper platform to poets of all the districts of Malakand division and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, they said.

Poets from different areas of Malakand division including Hanif Qais, Mohammad Iqbal Iqbal, Mohammad Akbar Mano, Iqbal Jan, Asghar Khan and Shah Hussain enthralled the audience with their poems.

    Great news
I think Zarkhela is part of Shamozai Swat.A land of people with literary genius. It seems now Taliban cannot stop such literary gatherings. Good for Pashtuns and Swatians.

Literary activities and poetry programmes are in full swing in every nuke and corner of Pakhtunkhwa, but these are organised by individuals or local organisations without any support of Government. The Government should work for the pashto language and literature and encourage these organisations. "Huner Kor" in Malakand, "Pakhtunkhwa Cultural Foundation" in Peshawar, "Adabi Tolana Mardan" and various other Tolaney are working in different districts and circles for pashto literature and language and organise events and poetry sessions to encourage pashto poets and keep the language alive. Our poets and writers carried out their activities even in Taliban days in SWAT. Young poet, writer and singer Amjad Shahzad is a live example whose home was attacked by Taliban and he had to take refuge in Peshawar but continued writing against them in various magazines. His poetry collection named "Na"(NO) is worth reading which tells a lot about his struggle and resistance against Talibans and their rule.
A mega literary event was organised at the residence of Ex. Chief Minister Haider Khan in mardan in which poets, writers and artists from Pakhtunkhwa as well as Afghanistan participated and prominent writers, journalists and artists were awarded for their contributions.
Centinial celebrations of Legendary Poet and Artist Ghani Khan were also started by Pakhtunkhwa Cultural Foundations in the start of 2014 and different events and programmes are being organised at different parts of Pakhtunkhwa. We should help these local organisations and NGOs for the promotion and revival of our culture, language and heritage.

very good news Yousafzai thanks for sharing all this

I am happy that in Mardan even Afghan Pashtun poets participated. This is my life long wish that Afghan and Pakistani Pashtuns must join hands to strengthen Pashto. Political differences may not impede literary and linguistic collaboration.

This is very curious that Pashto language has no status in Pakistan but most of the Pashto literary books are published in Pakistan. Most of the poets and singers are born in Pakistan. Pashto Academy in Peshawar is doing a tremendous job. But writing and reading of Pashto in general masses almost does not exist.

On the other hand Pashto has official status in Afghanistan. In Kandahar and Jalalabad Pashto is the only working language. BBC Pashto, internet pages etc all are run by Afghan Pashtuns. BBC Pashto is not popular in Pakistan. Pashtuns only listen to BBC Urdu.

I do not know much about the Pashtuns in Balochistan. Can any one tell me about the status of Pashto language and literature in Balochistan?

          Nice!

Poetry is the peak of linguistic expression.
