  • Taliban denounce Kabul meeting as sign of failure

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - The Taliban denounced this week's international conference on Afghanistan's future, saying the "vague and terrible agenda" shows that the U.S. and its allies intend to abandon the country and blame their ultimate defeat on the Afghan government.

Representatives of the U.S. and 60 other countries met Tuesday to endorse President Hamid Karzai's plan for Afghan police and soldiers to take charge of security nationwide by 2014. Karzai also urged his international backers to distribute more of their development aid through his government.

In a statement posted in English on their website, the Taliban said the conference showed that the U.S. "has lost the initiatives and is unable to resolve Afghanistan issue." The statement was distributed to news organizations by the SITE Intelligence Group that monitors extremist communications.

"Whatever actions are taken in this regard have already been doomed to a failure," the statement said. "It is evident from the vague and terrible agenda of the conference ... that America and the international community intend to pull out of Afghanistan" and blame "a;; the coming destruction's, humiliation and defeat on Kabul puppet regime," meaning the Karzai administration.

A massive security crackdown prevented the Taliban from launching any major attacks in the capital during the conference.

However, rockets fired at the Kabul airport Tuesday forced the plane carrying U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt to divert to Bagram Air Field north of the city.

The Taliban said the attack "turned the moments of peace and safety of the U.S. invaders into disaster" and left conference participants "scared to death."

Also Wednesday, NATO said insurgents beheaded six Afghan policemen after attacking their checkpoint in northern Afghanistan the day before. The coalition said militants attacked a number of government buildings and the checkpoint Tuesday in Baghlan province's Dahanah-ye Ghori district. The attackers overran the checkpoint and decapitated the six policemen, NATO said.

Elsewhere, the Danish military said one of its soldiers was killed and another wounded Wednesday when a roadside bomb exploded in Helmand province of southern Afghanistan. The death brought the number of NATO service members killed this month to 65.

Violence and casualties have surged in recent months as the U.S. and its allies have stepped up the fight against the Taliban. June was the deadliest month of the war for international troops with 103 deaths, including 60 Americans.

In Australia, the country's defense ministry said the main NATO base outside the southern city of Kandahar came under Taliban rocket fire late Monday, causing minor damage but no Australian casualties.

No further details were released. The NATO base at the Kandahar Air Field comes under rocket and mortar fire from time to time, usually without causing major damage or casualties.

Malgariya, to what end? Do you want to provide Pakistan with a back door through which to meddle in Afghanistan?
Any militant who lays down arms and accepts the supremacy of the Loya Jirga and the Afghan Asaasi Kaanun should be a part of the reconciliation effort.

then it would be gr8 becoz pakistan can then dump the rest of the afghanis talibs who abuse pakistans soil for shelter and then we can make a strong border and let afghanis make their fate to destruction

there is no loya jirga without the Muslim majority and particularly, the Taliban. There is no loya Jirga as long as it is held under the supervision of Americans.

The constitution of Afghanistan is based on KUFR. Therefore it is void and no self respecting Muslim should accept it.

And why should any militant group surrender to the losers?

Initially they had bigger plan of occupying the whole of Afghanistan. One of Benazir Bhutto's (Pakistani Prime minister) adviser during the 90's and a former bureaucrat, Roedad Khan confessed on Pakistani television that Ghulam Ishaq, the then President of Pakistan, told him that "from now on we will have to allocate money for Afghanistan in each of our budget".

So, they had a plan of turning Afghanistan into thier colony or a province. And you are right we have to be vigilant at their every action. But it mainly depends on us Pashtun/afghans to bothe sides of the vicious Durand Line that we must not give them any opportunity that they could exploit.

I will be first to support you sangar becoz in pakistan we are very much fed up of extreminism, it will be gr8 once taliban establish themselves but dis time we wil make sure our army and intelligence agencies do not get involved

afghanistan shud be left alone as we all know and witness how much success they can make out of their land but i can predict once again when taliban come into power 1000s of afghanis will flee and run to pakistan for jobs, money, food and shelter

please make sure this time you make sure you respect a official islamic republic of pakistan and not interfear into our affairs ever again and tell your taliban friends not to seek approval or political friendship with our respective politicians
