  • Saudi Arabia bans "Muslim" Brotherhood as a terrorist group

Saudi Arabia designates Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist group: Interior Ministry

    RIYADH Fri Mar 7, 2014 8:59am EST

    Saudi Arabia »

(Reuters) - Saudi Arabia has formally designated the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist group, official Saudi television reported citing a statement by the Interior Ministry.

The kingdom has also designated Nusra Front and the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, whose fighters are battling Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, as terrorist organizations.

Friday's move appeared to enforce last month's royal decree where Riyadh said it would jail for between three and 20 years any citizen who fought guilty of fighting in conflicts abroad.

The kingdom's authorities want to deter Saudis from joining rebels in Syria and posing a security risk once they return home.

Riyadh also fears the Brotherhood, whose conservative Sunni doctrines challenge the Saudi principle of dynastic rule, has tried to build support inside the kingdom since the Arab Spring popular revolutions in the Arab-speaking world.

In Egypt, the Brotherhood, which won every election following the toppling of long-time ruler Hosni Mubarak in 2011, has been driven underground since the army deposed President Mohamed Mursi, a longtime member of the group that also endured repression in the Mubarak era.

The army-backed government in Cairo designated the Brotherhood as a terrorist group in December after accusing it of carrying out a suicide bomb attack on a police station that killed 16 people. The Brotherhood condemned that attack and denies using violence.

Saudi Arabia's Islamic religious authorities have previously spoken out against Saudi fighters going to Syria, but the Saudi Interior Ministry estimates that around 1,200 Saudis have gone there nonetheless.

I have to congratulate the Saudi government for taking this tough and brave decision especially considering the possible reprisals from the brotherhood and its supporters.

We Bangladeshis support our Saudi brothers ]in this decision.

    Good news.
Do you know whether Saudi has banned Al Qaeda and Taliban and declared them as a terrorist organization?

One day Saudi as a country will be declared as Terrorist country because of sponsoring terrorism and Wahabism.

gulf arabs and especially the saudis hate when their hegemony of arab thought is threatened by people who can't be bought off like a common *****.

There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

don't the Saudi family fund The Nusra Front and the ISIL?

The Saudis are not backing any of the groups labeled as "Islamists." The Saudis have been attempting to make the secular leaning FSA the sole rebel group that will eventually take power in Syria. This has not been successful. Saudis prefer a secular regime in Syria because they feel it wont pose a threat.

This move is meaningless in terms of its intention which was to get Qatar to stop backing the Muslim Brotherhood and specific Syrian insurgent groups fighting Assad (which view the Saudi regime in the same light as Assad's)

Last week, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and UAE recalled their Ambassadors from Qatar due to Qatar's backing of Syrian insurgent groups that Saudi fears.

UAE backs Saudi banning of the Brotherhood:

Mauritania raided Brotherhood linked organizations and centres:

Mauritanian authorities have recently launched a nationwide campaign against Brotherhood-run offices.

Observers in Mauritania link the campaign against the Islamist group to thawed relations with fellow Arab League members Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Qatar said to decrease support for the Brotherhood.

"A grab from Twitter showing the profile images for a number of religious figures. It compares their pictures before and after the kingdom banned the Brotherhood"

Saudi Islamic scholars remove Brotherhood-associated images from their social media pages

Mohamad al-Arefe, a Muslim preacher and a professor at the King Saud University in Saudi Arabia, has allegedly changed his display picture on Twitter that originally contained the ‘Rabaa hand’ logo, which depicts a four-fingered gesture - now banned in Egypt - raised by supporters of ousted President Mohammad Mursi.

Users of Twitter criticized Arefe, who has more than 8 million followers on Twitter, for changing his picture.

Salman al-Odah, a Muslim preacher, writer, and a host of several religious TV programs, has also changed his Twitter profile image to one that does not include the Rabaa sign.

The Rabaa sign is banned in Egypt which has declared the Brotherhood a terrorist organization. It is used by Brotherhood supporters and sympathizers.

So the following Muslim countries have taken action against the brotherhood.

                      - Mauritania
                      - Saudi Arabia
                      - Egypt
                      - UAE
                      - Bahrain

                      - Bangladesh has taken action against the Brotherhood-backed "Jamaat e Islami" organization in the country which is the local version of the Brotherhood.

The Jamaat e Islami was involved in the 1971 genocide of Bengali Muslims including rape camps where Bengali Muslim women were sex slaves for Pakistani soldiers. The Jamaat is supported by the Brotherhood and other pro-Brotherhood organizations around the world.

Egypt unrest: Six soldiers shot dead in Cairo

BBC's Orla Guerin: "This was a brazen attack during dawn prayer"

Six Egyptian soldiers have been killed by gunmen at a checkpoint in the northern Cairo suburb of Shubra al-Khayma, state media reports.

A security official said two bombs left behind by the attackers had been defused.

The violence comes two days after another soldier was shot dead in an attack on an army bus in eastern Cairo.

There has been an upsurge in violence since the overthrow of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi last July.

Islamist militants have killed hundreds of police and soldiers in numerous attacks.

The military accused Mr Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood of carrying out this latest attack, which was carried out as the soldiers took part in dawn prayers.

The Brotherhood denies involvement in violence, saying it is committed to peaceful campaigning.

                        Trials

It was designated a terrorist group in December and thousands of its members have been put on trial.

A series of high-profile attacks on security forces in Cairo and the Sinai peninsula have been claimed by another group, Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, which it says are in revenge for the military-backed government's repression of Mr Morsi's supporters.

Mr Morsi, elected in 2012 following the overthrow of veteran ruler Hosni Mubarak, was ousted by the military amid huge streets protests against him, after a year in power marred by deep political and social divisions.

Mr Morsi is in jail facing four separate trials. The charges, which he denies, include the killing of opposition protesters, espionage and conspiring to commit acts of terror.

Military chief Field Marshal Abdul Fattah al-Sisi is expected to stand in presidential elections which are due to be held in April.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raajioon.

May Allah help the people of Egypt to defeat terrorism.

Our struggle in Bangladesh and their struggle in Egypt is the same.

May Allah give jannatul firdaus to those soldiers who were killed whilst praying to their lord.

                        Ameen, thumma ameen.

Muslim Brotherhood leaders arrested in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait with Interpol’s help

                            Special to WorldTribune.com

CAIRO — Two leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood have been captured in the Gulf.

Officials said the Brotherhood leaders were arrested in Gulf Cooperation Council states earlier this month.

The officials said Akram Shaer was captured in Saudi Arabia in cooperation with Interpol, while Mohammed Qabouti was arrested in Kuwait.
“They are alleged to have committed terrorism, violence and inciting the killing of citizens,” the Egyptian prosecutor-general said.
In a statement on March 12, the prosecutor-general identified Shaer as a former Brotherhood parliamentarian from Port Said. The statement did not say how Shaer reached Saudi Arabia.

Officials said Qabouti and Shaer planned attacks on police stations in Port Said in wake of the military overthrow of President Mohammed Morsi in July 2013. They said the post-Morsi government sought Interpol’s help in locating the two Brotherhood leaders.

Hundreds of Brotherhood operatives fled Egypt in wake of the coup against Morsi. Officials said many of the operatives were hosted by Qatar, the only GCC state to maintain open support for the Brotherhood.
