The qameer worn by Pashtuns is about knee length ot slightly longer. According to some scholars of Islamic law, Prophet Muhammad sal allahu alayhi wasalam use to wear a qamees of similar length. Therefore, many Muslims prefer wearing it.

Another reason why Pashtun style of clothes is popular is because Pashtuns struggle against disbelievers is seen as an inspiration for all Muslims. They buy Pashtun clothes to emulate the people they admire.

If you can produce high quality Afghan clothes for a good price, there are many people who are willing to buy them at reasonable prices in the Middle East.

Because there is lack of proper Pashtun clothes, Arabs make their own version which is not very comfortable and is quite ugly.

Shalwar Kameez is the best. I honestly wear mine when I am off from work all the time. I got some looks from neighbors when I was changing my car oil in them the other day, but I don't care. They are so comfortable.

I remember a shocking picture of a man in shalwar qameez from the Yugoslavia war; he was holding two heads, each in one hand, whilst sporting a huge smile. Some people immediately said that he was an Afghan, but that is not necessarily true. As was said before, it is a popular garb amongst conservative muslims.

Also, it's very comfortable. I always wear it when I am at home. Unfortunately, mine are very old now. I hope to get new ones soon. :-)
