    Tuhin Shubhra Adhikary

Not even a two-year-old boy was spared by Abdul Quader Mollah and his cohorts.

They killed the boy, slamming him on the floor, slit the throats of his mother and two sisters, and raped his two other sisters, one of whom died from her wounds.
All but one member of the family were killed just because Hazrat Ali Laskar, the father and a tailor by profession, was a supporter of the Awami League and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

More than 42 years later, justice was finally delivered and Mollah, the infamous “Mirpurer Koshai” (Butcher of Mirpur), was executed at 10:01 last night.

The Supreme Court in its verdict, released on December 5, said the manner in which Mollah had led the killers in the planned murder of Laskar and his family members “exceeded all norms of humanity”.
The lone survivor of the massacre was one of Laskar’s daughters, then just 13 years old and a newly wed. She testified before International Crimes Tribunal-2 against Mollah last year behind closed doors.
The Daily Star is not divulging her identity for obvious reasons.
She told the court her father rushed back to their Kalapani Lane home in Mirpur-12 from work around dusk on March 26, 1971.
He was saying Quader Mollah would kill him.

Laskar closed the door and said Mollah, Akhtar Gunda, his Bihari (non-Bangalee) accomplices and the Pakistan army were chasing him, the 55-year-old witness told the court. The entire family was home.
The witness and her sister Amena hid under the bed as asked by their father.
She then heard Mollah and the Biharis approaching the door. They shouted, “Son of a b****, open the door, otherwise we will hurl bombs.”
As her father refused to open the door, they exploded a bomb. When her mother, holding a kitchen knife, opened the door, they shot her, said the witness.
When Laskar tried to hold his wife, Mollah grabbed him by the collar, and said, “Son of a p**, will you not support the Awami League now? Will you not follow Bangabandhu? Will you not chant the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’?”
Her father then begged Mollah and Akhtar Gunda to spare him, but Mollah dragged her father out of the room while his accomplices slit the throats of her mother and two sisters — Khodeja and Taslima — with a machete.
When her two-year-old brother Babu started crying, they killed the boy by slamming him on the floor, she said.

Hearing Babu’s cries, her sister Amena began to whimper. They then dragged Amena from under the bed and tortured her to death, she said.
They also dragged the witness out. She lost consciousness after she was hit with something sharp.

When she regained consciousness, she felt severe pain in the abdomen, and found her clothes all torn.
She managed to walk to a house at Fakirbari, where she was given first aid. Her father-in-law took her to his home the following day, said the witness.
At the last part of her testimony, she identified Mollah, who was in the dock. She said, “He [Mollah] was young then … He used to wear a Panjabi. I want to ask him where my father is.”

The tribunal on February 5 sentenced him to life imprisonment for killing her father and family members. The Supreme Court on September 17 sentenced the Jamaat-e-Islami leader to death, overruling the verdict of Tribunal-2.
The verdict of the Supreme Court bench noted that Mollah never showed any repentance for his acts and neither had his counsels prayed for the minimum sentence. “There is no cogent ground to take a lenient view in awarding the sentence,” it said.

Bench member Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik observed, “In my view his culpability is in no way less than that of any of the 11 people that were hanged on 6th October 1946 pursuant to the conviction Nuremberg Tribunal passed or that of Ajmal Kasab, who was sent to the gallows by the Indian courts notwithstanding that the death sentence is an exception in India.”

    One survived to see justice

Thanks to Watan Pal Yousafzai for posting this story on his facebook wall.

    1. Wanting for Bengalis to stay as part of Pakistan was a legitimate political opinion.

However killing, raping and massacring were not.

    2. Jamaat e Islami in Bangladesh & Pakistan, as well as the Pakistani regime have been successful in gaining the support of "Islamists" and "Islamist" regimes across the world including:

    - Muslim Brotherhood (Jamaat is the South Asian variant) in Egypt. When Morsi was in power he spoke out in favour of Bangladeshi Jamaati war criminals.

    - Turkey's "Islamists", including AKP, Milli Gorus fanatics and Fethullah Gulen's propaganda organs.

    - Iran. The Iranian regime and its propaganda organ, "Press TV" is heavily pro-Jamaat. Press TV is well known as an unreliable propaganda outfit.

Press TV, Iranian propaganda organ, well known for spreading lies and nonsense.

    - Saudi Arabia. The Saudi regime are fanatical supporters of Jamaat and even on defence.pk, "Bangladeshi" Jamaati fanatics put smiley emoticons when speaking about their wet dreams of Bangladeshi workers being kicked out of Saudi Arabia in support of Jamaat.

    - Sudan.

So the entire global "Islamist" network stood in support of this killer and rapist but that could not save him.

Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, Egypt (under Morsi), Sudan all against little Bangladesh.

    3. Another Jamaati lie being spread is these trials are persecution of Muslim "scholars".

    This is a complete lie.

Most of the scholars of Bangladesh are either Deobandi or Sufi and both hate Jamaat.

The over 50,000 madrassas in Bangladesh are mainly run by Deobandis who hate Jamaat.

When the Awami League government banned all books by Jamaati founder, Moudoodi, none of the Deobandi or Sufi scholars complained, in fact they were most likely delighted.

People like Kader Molla are not scholars or Imams and had no theological training but were party activists of Jamaat.

    4. In Bangladesh, the inheritance and family laws are based on Quranic legislation.

There are more mosques in Bangladesh than any other country on earth, except Indonesia.

Complete freedom to wear Hijab unlike Turkey.

    Prohibition on alcohol.

Bangladesh was one of the only countries to ban Youtube when there were anti-Islamic videos posted there about the prophet solaAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam.

Bangladesh banned Youtube due to respecting the honour of the messenger of Allah (solAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam).

    - Saudi Arabia
    - Turkey
    - UAE
    - Kuwait

    did not.

Despite all this Jamaatis and their "Islamist" allies and thugs lie about Bangladesh and speak as if mass atheism is being promoted there.

    5. I personally believe that the Bangladeshi government should recall our ambassador from Ankara and close the Turkish embassy down.

Turkey is an unimportant country for us. We do very little business with it and we don't need it.

    6. Anyway all the enemies of Bangladesh, friends of Jamaat, have been humiliated and punished recently.

a: Ikhwani regime in Egypt kicked out.

b: Qardawi kicked out of Kuwait and under threat of arrest if he returns to Egypt.

c: Iranians being forced to make concessions to the Americans, though Americans still speaking of attacking them if necessary e.g. Obama has recently said he will have F22s stationed near Iran to attack it instantly if necessary.

    Pentagon deploys bombers near Iran

d: Saudis being humiliated with their defeat in Syria.

e: Sudanese losing half of their country a few years ago.

f: Mass rebellion against Erdogan's regime in the summer with even daughters of MPs of his own ruling party, joining in.

So we are ready to deal with Jamaat and all of its backers in the "Islamist" network, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, Sudan, "Muslim" brotherhood, Pakistan etc.

    Bring it on!

Morsi has already lost power in Egypt, if Erdogan, Abdullah al-Saud, Khamenei and others want to follow his fate, let them attack Bangladesh and see what happens.

Supporter of Jamaati war criminals, Morsi, overthrown.

Erdogan, who is hated by most university-educated Turks.

That's strange there is no such group called Akhwan in Bangladesh; there is a group called Jamat-i-Islami, but that has no charter by any group called Ikhwan.

why not just call them by their name?

There is no such group s Muslim Brotherhood of America.....by the ay.

A day will come when Jamati Islami criminals will be hanged for their crimes against humanity in Afghanistan and other places where they joined because of their global Ikhwani and Islamist agenda under the name of so called Jihad.

Jamiate Islami and Hizbe Islami should also face the same fate.

In the case of Molla hanging in Bangladesh I agree with Bengal's tiger's in-depth analysis.

This happens when you mix religious zeal and bigotry with politics. That was a war between Pakistan's army and Bangladeshis struggling for independence.

JI as a religious party should have stayed away from such political matters and today they would not face this humiliation. JI of Pakistan and other Ikhwanis should learn from it. They should focus on mosque not on power and politics.

Unless Badlun and Toramana can prove that Jamat-i-Islami has a charter under the Ikhwan Al Muslimeen

I highly advise both of you for your reputation's sake to refrain from referring to them as IKhwanis, this group and the Ikhwan are not connected except perhaps Jamat admired the Ikhwan.

Hezb-i-Islami are an active political party in Afghanistan, many members of Hizb-i-Islami are key members of the Karzai Government; which you praised as a Beacon of Democracy Badlun.

This is a secondary issue whether JI comes under charter of Ikhwans or not . The main topic is execution of a JI leader because of war crimes.

As we divide politics into different categories like right, left. conservative, liberal, labor, socialists, communists, capitalists, environmentalists etc , similarly Islamists have different names, brands, garbs and forms.

JI is highly inspired from Ikhwans. Maudoodi was under influence of Qutub and other founders of Ikhwans. I have read many books of Maudoodi and have found him great admirer of Ikhwanism. There is no difference in the ideology and approach of JI and Ikhwans. Both of them stand for Political Islam or Islamism.

If you find any difference between the two except their geographical distribution, then please enlighten us.

I consider the Hizbe Islami of Gulbadin Hikmat Yar as Islamist or Ikhwani. The faction representing Hizb in parliament are moderates and modernists. However Islamism is the problem of every one in Afghanistan. Afghan Mellat party may be the only secular party there.

The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, An-Nahda in Tunisia, Milli Gorus (real power behind the AKP) and south Asia's Jamaat e Islami are not directly related or united.

However ideologically they are all regarded as being part of a generic "Muslim brotherhood" style of parties and also they help each other e.g. Erdogan speaking out in favour of Morsi to the point the Egyptian military have expelled the Turkish ambassador. Morsi and Erdogan speaking out in favour of Jamaat in Bangladesh.

They are differentiated from Salafi, Deobandi types in a number of ways.

a: They do not follow any theology closely. So Morsi and Jamaat in Bangladesh are friendly with Shia Iran.

b: Their followers do not wear traditional "Islamic" clothing or asked to wear beards. Jamaatis in Bangladesh wear jeans and shirts so do Ikhwanis in Egypt.

c: They believe in the political process, in elections within the nation-state they are part of.

Salafis discourage participation in politics, groups like the Jihadis/Takfeeris consider it as disbelief and believe in violent overthrow of Muslim governments.

d: They believe in the gradual Islamization of society and Islamizing organizations and networks.

e: As I said they all regard each other as part of one "Islamic" movement and hold conferences together and support each other.

A defeat for Jamaat in Bangladesh would be considered as a defeat for the Muslim brotherhood, Milli Gorus (AKP) in Turkey.

They are all together as brothers.

In the long run however their agenda is not, will not be successful since though the Islamic ummah has a sentimental love for Islam, these "Islamists" cannot provide real answers to modern problems especially with their pseudo-Islamic "shariah".

The most successful "Ikhwani" party of all time is the AKP, which some would say is not even an Ikhwani party as it is so diluted, has had to abandon the traditional Milli Gorus approach to politics and espouse the language of liberal democracy and pluralism.

Even the Saadet party (mother party of the AKP) has diluted its ideology and tone.

The "Muslim brotherhood" world wide has proven to be a failure and rejected by the Muslim ummah.

It's a very primary issue because you're in effect levying unsupported accusations against the Ikhwan Al Muslieen which the Ikhwan are not responsible for.

Not only that you're spreading lies and disinformation to deceive others which actually HARMS Your credibility because who then will believe a LIAR?

Unless they are charted as branch of the Ikhwan Al Muslimeen, then refrain from referring to them as Ikhwan, even if they claim inspiration from the Ikhwan, the Ikhwan never recognized them as a branch thereby calling them Ikhwan is entirely DECEITFUL and shows your agenda in spreading Deceit.

What you consider to be Ikhwan is irrelevant the Branch in the Karzai Government Embrace the MUslim Brotherhood Ideology (although they are ALSO not chartered under the Ikhwa Al Muslimeen) Thereby under YOUR definition would be deemed IKhwan.

You cherry Picking who you label Ikhwan depite ALL Hizb-i-Islami following Ikhwani principles shows you're cherry picking and That you're being Intellectually Dishonest.

Next time make sure Any group you label "Ikhwan" are actually Apart of the Ikhwan, otherwse you look like an idiot.

                  h.

The Muslim Brotherhood in All the North African Hilal and Middle East are all entirely interconnected.

                  Jamat-i-Islami are Mawdudists. not Ikhwan.

Erdogan only requested halting the execution; he did not claim support for the Jamat-i-Islami or that the war crimes accusations were wrong, but that execution is wrong. I disagree with him, however this is not equal to support.

as far as I know Morsi did not claim support for the Jamaat-i-Islami; but Jamat-i-Islami of India protested the Massacres of Ikhwan in Egypt. Likewise Jamat has protested the American invasion of Afghanistan, despite the fact Taliban are Anti-Ikhwan. This is merely political bantering.

I am here not to play mind games but with a true spirit to share and learn. You might have replied to my question and then might have asked this question. However following is my feedback.

Hezb-e-Islami is an Islamist organization which grew out of the Muslim Youth organization, an Islamist organization founded in Kabul by students and teachers at Kabul University in 1969 to combat communism in Afghanistan. Its ideology is from the Muslim Brotherhood and Abul Ala Maududi's Jamaat-e-Islami.
The Columbia World Dictionary of Islamism, Olivier Roy, Antoine Sfeir, editors, (2007), p.132

The moderate Hizbe Islami under the leadership of Arghandwal is part of the Afghan government while leader and founder of Hizbe Islami Hekmatyar is currently believed to be in alliance with the Taliban and waging a guerilla war against US forces in Afghanistan. His group is declared as terrorist by US.

Khalis faction is another group of Hizbe Islmai .Khalis is believed to be in hiding and involved in fighting against the US troops present in Afghanistan. His base of support is in the eastern Nangarhar Province.
Afghanistan Online: Political parties and leaders in Afghanistan

It means that Hizbe islmai was originally inspired from both Ikhwans and JI. JI fully supported Hizb in their so called jihad against former USSR. The difference between Hizb and Ikhwan is only in local practices as Hizb has Afghan context while Ikhwans have Arab context. However their ideology is the same.

I do not find any difference between the traditional Hizb except the latest development that Hizb is now using terrorism and guerrilla warfare instead of democratic ways for islamism like Ikhwans. But soon Ikhwans will also resort to terrorism to achieve their Islamists' agenda.

Now please share what differences you find in JI and Ikhwans?

When it happens in Pakistan in five years to one person then the European Union threaten Pakistan to break all the ties with Pakistan and put trade embargo and such and such. Why EU is silent now ?
