KP government to officially block Nato supplies: Imran

    November 27, 2013
    RECORDER REPORT
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to officially block the Nato supply route, as it cannot guarantee safety of Nato containers. He was talking to media at the residence of PTI Lahore President Aleem Khan here on Tuesday. He said the KPK Chief Minister had conveyed the decision to the Federal government through a letter.

He also said under the Constitution, it is the Federal government's duty of safeguarding the interests of the provincial government and defending it from any foreign aggression, as it cannot approach United Nations or shoot down the drones. To a question on Hangu drone strike FIR, Imran said after the completion of investigation by the KPK Police, names would be nominated in the FIR; further progress on the matter would be made public in a press conference on November 27 (today). "In this connection, if needed, the option of Interpol is available to us," he added.

He reiterated that there will be no peace in the country till the drone attacks are stopped. He told the median men that before the general elections both the PML-N and PTI made pledges to the people, but the PML-N had not fulfilled them, while PTI was doing so by waging a struggle against corruption. To another question, he said his petition against the appointment of NAB Chairman is already in the Supreme Court. He stated that the appointment of a controversial person indicates that there is a 'deal' (between the PML-N and PPP) "How can such a person carry out accountability," he questioned.

Right now they have been withdrawing the bulk or their military equipment out via the Pakistani routes. Its the cheapest exit route for them. At the same time the US wishes to keep those supply routes open to support the continuation of a limited war after 2014. The closure of these supply routes means an end to this war that Pakistan has made possible. Had PTI been in power in Balochistan, that route would also be closed.

The NATO supply route via Torkham is the one that the PTI led KP government has closed. Chaman is still open.

The supply routes of the Northern Distribution network are very expensive. When Pakistan closed both supply lines, Uzbekistan made over $2 billion over the 7 months. Islam Karimov purposely hijacked the cost because he knew the US was in a weak situation.

The US is running on a credit card. Any further expenditures on this war keep increasing the national debt. $2-4 billion is not lose change that they have. The US treasury does not have any solid cash, and depends on loans.

no, those dont work, they are too costly. the only way the US can coninue its war is through pakistan. without pakistan, the war would not be possible.

Imran's party to block NATO supply routes across Pakistan

He said the supply route would remain closed until the US stopped drone attacks

Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has said his party was considering to block NATO supply routes across Pakistan.

Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has already blocked NATO supply trucks from travelling through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province which it rules.

The party "may block NATO supply routes in Punjab and Balochistan as supply is being carried out via Chaman border," Imran told The Express Tribune daily.

"National and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa assemblies had unanimously passed resolutions terming drone strikes a blatant violation of international law and Pakistan's sovereignty," he said.

He said the supply route would remain closed until the US stopped drone attacks.

Claiming that the US was creating hurdles in the peace process, he said "the so-called ally" did not want to bring peace to the region.

Meanwhile, his party today welcomed the news of the US military halting ground cargo shipments from Afghanistan via Pakistan because of the its protests.

The party's Central Information Secretary said, "This was a tactical success for the Party's protest. However the strategic success would come when the US committed to stopping drone attacks on Pakistan."

In Washington, Pentagon spokesman Mark Wright said, "We are aware protests have affected one of the primary commercial transit routes between Pakistan and Afghanistan."

"We have voluntarily halted US shipments of retrograde cargo...From Torkham Gate through Karachi to ensure the safety of the drivers contracted to move our equipment.

Restore NATO supplies or to face financial loss: US defense secretary warns PM Nawaz

By Fareeha Khalid Dec 10th, 2013

Islamabad: US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel warned Pakistan that it risks losing financial aid if a key supply route to Afghanistan remains blocked by protesters.

Workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and its allied parties in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (KPK) have blocked roads in Peshawar and other northwestern towns to protest US drone strikes, leading the Pentagon to announce a week ago that it was halting shipments on one of the main routes into Afghanistan.
Hagel told Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during a meeting in Islamabad that reimbursements to Pakistan for Afghan war costs may be jeopardized in Congress by the holdup of supplies, according to a U.S. defense official who discussed the meetings on condition of anonymity. Sharif said he had address the protests, according to Pentagon spokesman Carl Woog.
The Prime Minister assured Chuck Hagel that Pakistan would take ‘immediate action’ to resolve the shipment problem but US should stop drone attacks.
Sharif told Hagel that drone strikes were “counter-productive to our efforts to combat terrorism and extremism on an enduring basis,” Pakistan’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

Blockage of NATO supplies victory of PTI: Khattak

09 December, 2013 PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that drone attacks by the United States are a violation of Pakistan's independence and sovereignty, and they would not allow such attacks.
Talking to party workers and media persons at his residence on Sunday, the chief minister said the suspension of supplies by the US through the Torkham border after the protests by the PTI was their victory. He said it was a decision of the PTI and allied parties to block the supplies and a final decision on it would be taken by Imran Khan on his return from India.
He said the provincial government was preparing to hold local government elections in March after consultation with other parties.
He said 30% of the development budget would be placed at the disposal of the local governments so as to enable them to carry out development work in line with the demands of the local people.
He said elections at village council level will be held on non-party basis while tehsil and district level local government elections would be held on party basis.
Chief Minister Khattak claimed that during the tenure of the previous government, Chief Minister's Secretariat had become an auction market where jobs and transfers were "sold". He said the people rejected the ANP government "due to its record corruption and destruction of institutions". The chief minister challenged the opposition to prove any corruption against the provincial ministers and advisers. He vowed to eliminate corruption and commission mafia from the province.
He expressed satisfaction over the law and order situation and pointed out that today Asfandyar Wali, Mian Iftikhar and Amir Haider Hoti are going to their native areas freely, while during their tenure, they were restricted to their homes as hostage. The chief minister said people have voted them to power for change, peace in the region, justice and to end corruption. He said his party would live up to the expectations of the masses.
                      End.

This is actually wishful thinking on your part as well as other PFers who in the past have mocked PTI and Imran Khan as both party and individual, incapable of making any serious political moves. When it is considered that most of the PFers who made this "educated" assessment were in favor of the US-NATO war in Afghanistan, its clear that the thinking is devoid of reason, and more based on irrationality, and militant secularist stupidity.

Keep in mind that they say this in the same breath when they also say Imran Khan is ominous and has "designs" for Afghanistan (How can someone be weak and powerful at the same time? Confused) (and thats why he opposes the US-NATO war and Pakistan's alliance with the US- I didnt know being Anti-War was so evil? LOL)

Im actually curious as to why they have yet to comment on this news about PTIs blockade of the NATO supplies.

In regards to KP's budget, PTI has a lot of wealthy donors. It doesnt need US payment to be a mercenary supporter of the US-NATO war.
                          .

PTI has blocked the KP supply routes, and is going block the NATO supplies from Karachi port. PTI blockade of Chaman will simply be symbolic.

The KP NATO supply route is the main line which has been used to supply the US-NATO war. Nothing really crosses the Chaman route.

Imran Khan dosent want Aid with condition attached.

Now many countries are investing in KPK alone.

I hope one day we will have higher per capita income and standard of living than Punjab.

KPK tax collection met the target whil all the other provinces failed.
