PTI blocks Nato supplies

ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) which rules Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Sunday blocked the Nato supplies to Afghanistan by holding a sit-in and demonstration at the Ring Road Peshawar.
“As we rule the KP, we will not allow the Nato supplies pass through this province unless CIA operated drone attacks are stopped,” Khan said while addressing a party gathering.
Hundreds waving party flags attended the rally.
However, the KP government stayed away from the protest as neither Chief Minister Pervez Khattak nor any of his ministers turned up there, obviously due to PTI’s policy. The Ring Road which is the main supply route for Nato and the Pak-Afghan border at Torkham was blocked to choke Nato supplies.
Security measures were taken to avoid any untoward situation.
Khan said PTI would mobilise people to block Nato supplies all over Pakistan in order to pressurise Washington to halt the drone campaign.
His coalition partner in the KP government, the Jamaat-e-Islami, announced at the sit-in, it will hold a rally in Lahore on Dec.9 and in Karachi later against the drone attacks.
The PTI chairman urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to become “leader” as the whole nation was ready to stand behind him.
He said there was no mention of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) strikes in the “chits” from which Sharif read during his meeting with US President Barack Obama.
On the other hand, he said, Sharif had assured that he would vigorously raise the issue with the American president.
The PTI chief said the prime minister doesn’t realise the extent of destruction caused in the KP by the anti-terror war.
He said more than six million people have been displaced, and hundreds of children orphaned.
“The nation is sick and tired of the anti-terror war and the damages brought by the predator strikes,” Khan said.
