17 Iranian Border Guards Die In Clash In Pakistan Border

TEHRAN, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- A total of 17 Iranian border guards were killed during a clash in southeastern Iran on Friday, Xinhua news agency reports local official media as saying.

The IRNA news agency said Saturday the incident took place near Saravan city bordering Pakistan in the Sistan and Baluchistan province, which also left a number of Iranian guards injured.

Military and security forces from other cities have been dispatched to the border area.

Rajabali Sheikhzadeh, the province's deputy governor general for political and security affairs, confirmed the deaths but declined to give further details.

A source said bandits or rebels were responsible for the attack.

Tehran, Oct 26 (EFE).- Iranian authorities hanged 16 suspected rebels Saturday in retaliation for the deaths of 17 border guards in an armed clash outside the southeastern city of Saravan.
"This morning, we hanged 16 (previously jailed) rebels in response to the terrorist act carried out last night in Saravan," Mohammed Marzie - district attorney of the city of Zahedan, capital of the province of Sistan and Baluchestan - was quoted as saying by the Isna student news agency.
"We had already warned the rebels and enemy groups of the regime that, if they did anything to harm innocent people or security agents or the police, we would act in kind (by executing jailed rebels)," Marzie added, according to Iranian news agency Fars.
A total of 17 border guards were killed, five were wounded and four were captured in Friday night's ambush outside Saravan, near the border with Pakistan, unidentified local officials told that news agency.
Thus far, no organization has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The armed Sunni rebel group Jundallah (Soldiers of God), which Tehran regards as a terrorist organization, is active in Sistan and Baluchestan though Iranian authorities say they have dismantled the bulk of its structure.
Iranian authorities arrested Jundallah's leader, Abdul-Malek Rigi, in June 2010 and subsequently tried and executed him.
Armed gangs that smuggle weapons and drugs from Afghanistan, the world's largest opium producer, also are active in Sistan and Baluchestan and frequently clash with Iranian security forces.

“We had issued warnings previously that bandits and anti-Iran group members who commit acts causing damage to innocent people or security and military personnel will face reciprocal action by us,” Mr. Marzieh said. “This morning, in retaliation for the martyrdom of border guards at the town of Saravan, we hanged 16 members of these anti-Iran groups. The judiciary will absolutely not tolerate such actions by these groups.”

After 17 Iranian border guards were killed in an ambush by Baluchi Jundallah separatists who crossed the border from Pakistan, Iran in an eye-for-eye reaction early Saturday hanged 16 activists of the Sunni Baluchi Jundallah Front.

What did the Iranian regime/Assad do when Israel assassinated an IRGC general in Syria (by airstrike), several months ago? The answer is they just issued warnings, and did nothing.

In response to this incident in which 17 Iranian troops were killed in an armed clash, Iran's justice system reacts by immediately hanging 16 "Anti-Iran" individuals aka Sunnis who had been in prison. (16 to match the number of Iranian troops killed- really- are these guys this stupid and foolish?) Is this what they think is a "powerful' message?

      1) What did the prisoners (most likely all Sunnis) have to do with this incident? Even if they were tied to this Iranian insurgency, what justice system operates in such a reactionary way?

This regime is about the most predicable state in the world. There are no suprises here.
