Does democracy/capitlaism work?

This guy speaks some good points, current system through out the world is clearly not working, something needs to change.

You need to define what "work" and what "doesnt work" are to you. Only then you can argue against democracy or capitalism or both.

I believe the way things are organized in the West did work for many years. But the system is now not functioning as good as it did in the past.

Let us take Holland as an example. The country where concensus is the mode of governance. All stakeholderz must arrive at a common ground. It did work for Holland for centuries.

But recently, poulist politicians have gained popularity. They are threat for the stability of this system.

Likewise we have populists in America, the Tea Party. They are also damaging the system.

For communists, socialists, Islamists, dictators, autocrats, fascists, Nazis, democracy and capitalism do not work but we see that in the developed world these do work. This is why the people from the non democratic and non capitalist world always want to shift to democracies.

Look at the Mediterranean incidents. How many illegal immigrants try to go to the world of democracy and capitalism even at the risk of their lives.

Personally I am not in favor of unbridled capitalism. State should have some control on macro economics and social projects especially education, health, social justice, even distribution of wealth , defense, foreign affairs and infrastructure.

American democracy/capitalism is a sham, Maybe it worked in the past, but today it only benefits the few top elite. I think the western civilization will crumble if they dont change their ways. They at least have to go back to their roots, but I doubt that will happen because every civilization has it's time on the top and then eventually falls.

Modern concept of democracy is defined by America. The first democracy after Helenic period was in America.
