  • Bangladeshis concerned over Grameen founders support for homosexuality

    Article: http://www.timeslive.co.za/world/201...-is-un-islamic

    1. The article is written in a slanted way hostile to Muslim values, but it is clear from the article (despite its propaganda) that "Muhammad Yunus", the founder of Grameen bank, is a supporter of homosexuality.

Yunus with controversial American leader, Obama.

    2. Islam does not accept homosexuality and traditional Islam in practical terms bans its open and public practise (its private practise - in the traditional Muslim legal system - could not in real terms be stopped as it would require 4 witnesses to see it being committed).

On a legal level its public display and performance is not allowed and spiritually it is a sin.

    3. Bangladesh is facing a war against it by the west to legalize and promote homosexuality. Not just Bangladesh but many Muslim and non-white countries and even Orthodox Russia.

Unfortunately many in the western-educated Bangladeshi elite and especially their children who study in the west would be in favour of its legalization, in complete defiance to Islam and the Quran.

The saddest thing about the article is that apparently this part:

Early this year, the chairman of the state-run National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) called for a new law which would ban discrimination based on a person's sexual orientation and gender identity.
The NHRC is led by this individual:

    Mizanur Rahman

    4. As a Bangladeshi I was happy that M Yunus gave the country a more perceptive image to the world, however I totally reject him and disassociate myself and my country from this American-connected individual (ex-American wife, close to Clintons).

Bangladesh must work with countries such as Russia and the Muslim bloc to defend itself against the aggressive western campaign to promote homosexuality.

M Yunus has betrayed Bangladesh, Islam and the prayers of Bangladeshis are against his attempts to promote homosexuality.

Muslims in Bangladesh, the country with the most Islamic scholars in the world, most madrassas in the world and biggest Islamic gathering on earth.

Bangladesh is not Pakistan, which is bombed by America regularly and where the Americans held an LBGT party in their embassy, or where there are gays and transexual TV presenters. Bangladesh is a strong, independent Muslim country which has no US bases on its soil, unlike Turkey, Saudi Arabia or Pakistan and which has defeated American-backed Pakistani forces in 1971.

Ali Saleem, transexual Pakistani TV presenter.

    Please note that

    1. Not all Bangladeshis but the religious bigots are blaming the Great Younas, the Nobel Laureate.

    2. Younas signed a document. It does not make him supporter or promoter of homosexuality. Being a Nobel Laureate he is a person of global level and he may sign such documents. He should not be seen from the narrow spectrum of a Bangladeshi Muslim personality.

    3. World and these religious bandits should not forget his services after signing one document. He is a star, a sun and few rays should not cover his brilliance.

    4. Do not forget that homosexuality can be inborn, biological and may be a disorder. A homosexual has no choice in her/his sexual orientation and we may accept him/her as per her nature and habits. Homosexuality should not be anymore a taboo in Muslim world. You can blame a heterosexual for acting as homo but a homo has no other choice.

what a surprise, badlun supports homosexuality

      shocked, just shocked...lol
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

I neither support nor reject homosexuality. I do not promote or practice homosexuality because it is not my ideology and not my sexual orientation. But I do tolerate and respect homosexuality because it is a sexual orientation and one is born with this orientation.

If I do not hate a cancer patient how I can hate a homosexual who has no choice to be homosexual. This is what he is or she is. If one is black or white then one is black or white. I cannot discriminate. I do not discriminate by sex, by gender , by color and by sexual orientation.

I do not see any punishment for homosexuals in Qur'an except the story of the prophet Lot. Instead of broken marriages and childless marriages Muslims and Pashtuns should recognize homosexuality/Tran-sexuality and other natural sexual orientations as a reality and may give rights to those who have different sexual orientation than the normal male-female relationship.

calm down, princess. a simple "yes i do support it" would of been fine.

Do you also respect pedophilia, beastiality, incest, and other disorders in which the people in question are inclined towards such sickness's because they were "born this way"

No till the science and modern law do not declare these as legal and human nature and that the people are born with this orientation and they cannot do with out it.

Try to understand the issue of homosexuality with open mind that a gay does not have any attraction for a girl and a lesbian for a boy. If you marry a gay to a lesbian or a straight , it will be a disaster. This is what happens in our society. I have seen men always seeking anal sex with her wives because they cannot do it normally. I have seen so many family problems when the couple has different sexual orientation.

The question of pedophilia, bestiality, incest etc do not have this aspect. One can have such disorders but these do not have social implications. And these are naturally anti society as children, animals and blood relatives are not meant for sex or marriages.

Transsexuals can be innocent people who do not have any sexual desire but just the way they talk, walk or dress can satisfy them. Homosexuality if practiced unsafely can cause many diseases like AIDS and need to be observed and controlled properly but cannot be rejected.

so you are saying that the people with the sickness's i mentioned are able to control their illness but homosexuals can't?

just until recently, homosexuality was a crime in the west. the entertainment industry which dictates western culture and has pushed the acceptance of homosexuality is not the be all end all of what is human nature and what is not.

and where are you finding men into anal sex? where the hell do you hang out??

and who are you to say homosexuality can't be rejected? i reject homosexuality, islam rejects homosexuality, afghanistan rejects homosexuality.

Europe and West is passing through stages of evolution and development. There was dark ages, then Renaissance, reformation, secularism, democracy and development.

Religion was very strong in the past so no one could talk of homosexuality but now religion is losing grounds to secularism, liberalism and free thinking as well as science and philosophy. That's why now gay rights, homosexuals rights are talks of the town.

Muslim world will have soon its own Renaissance, Reformation and we will be out of the Drak ages.

You can reject homosexuality for your own self if you are not gay and you are straight. I also reject it or do not accept is as my sexual orientation because I am straight.

But you cannot reject it on the Afghanistan level. There will be thousands of homosexuals in Afghanistan but of course hidden and many may not know that they are homosexuals, will be married like straights and will have so many family issues.

Except the story of Lot which is a story , can you prove from Qur'an or some authentic hadith that homosexuality is prohibited in Islam and there is some kind of special punishment for homosexuals in Islam?

Badlun is an extremist secularist and a secularist would go to any extent for satisfying the desires of his nafs even if he had to destroy pashtunwali im not talking about islam.
Secularism is the idea of satan where it makes you slave of the nafs. You advocate for abything your nafs wants. Secularism is an idea of the west and badlun is highly inspired with the west but we dont have anything to do with it. Pashtunwali and your secular ideas are two opposite ideas. One is talking about ghairat and the other takes you to the top of beghairati. Badlun i hope you understand the meaning of ghairat in pashtunwali.
The west has destroyed its family system by becoming the slaves of their nafs and now they want to destroy our family system by making us slaves of the nafs.

You will be surprized to know that Osho is not very much in favor of homosexuality. However he has excellent explanation for this phenomenon and does not condemn it. If one can have a straight relationship then nothing better than that but if homosexuality is a reality then we may not cndemn it. Osho says:

But you are born out of a woman, and deep inside the unconscious you carry an image of a woman, not a man. And unless you find a woman with whom you can be in the same deep love as you were with your mother, into whom you can again enter as you were in the womb of your mother, you will not be fulfilled. You are deceived -- homosexuality will not help. It can give you a certain comfort -- but it is false.

To fit perfectly a man needs a woman, a woman needs a man. They are polar opposites, and that polarity is needed. It is just as if you are trying to create electricity without polar opposites, without positive and negative.

Sex is a deep function of bio-electricity. You are an electrical phenomenon, a woman is an electrical phenomenon. She is negative, you are positive; she is passive, you are active. When the active energy meets with the passive energy in deep communion, there is a fulfillment, there is orgasm. A cosmic experience happens which leaves no emptiness in you, at least for the time being.

But your making love to a man, or a woman making love to a woman, is not going to help. I am not against homosexuality: I am simply stating a fact. I have no condemnation for it, but it will not be fulfilling -- that much I have to say.

Homosexuality is bound to happen. It happens only in monasteries and in the army, because these are the two places where we don’t allow men and women to mix. Or it happens in boys’ and girls’ hostels; there also we don’t allow them to mix. The whole phenomenon of homosexuality is a by-product of this whole stupid upbringing. Homosexuality will disappear from the world the day we allow men and women to meet naturally.

From their very childhood we start separating them. If a boy is playing with girls we condemn him. We say, “What are you doing? Are you a sissy? You are a boy, you are a man! Be a man, don’t play with girls!” If a boy is playing with dolls we immediately condemn him: “This is for girls.”

If a girl is trying to climb a tree we stop her immediately: “This is not right; this is against feminine grace.” If a girl tries and persists and is rebellious she is called a tomboy; she is not respected. We start creating these ugly divisions. Girls enjoy climbing trees; it is such a beautiful experience. And what is wrong in playing with dolls? A boy can carry dolls, because in life he will have to meet dolls and then he will be at a loss as to what to do!
This whole phenomenon has nothing to do with you personally. It is a social disease spread all over the world.
Same Sex Relationships - OSHOTIMES - Igniting Individual Intelligence

The first thing: heterosexual or homosexual, the answer is not in sex -- so it is not the question of homosexuality. Even if you are a heterosexual, the answer is not there. Looking in the direction of sex there is no answer, so they are both the same.

The first thing: drop worrying about it! Just by being a heterosexual nothing better is going to happen -- it will be the same. So accept your homosexuality just as you accept other things -- hunger.... Now life's answer is not there in eating food -- every day you will feel hungry again, again full, and again hungry. The answer is not there, but that does not mean that because the answer is not there you stop taking food, otherwise you will die.

The answer is not in taking a bath, but that doesn't mean you should stop taking a bath, otherwise you will become dirty and nauseous. The answer is somewhere else, that is true, but to look somewhere else the basic requirement is to accept your normal things. Don't bother about them too much. If you feel homosexual it is perfectly good, nothing is wrong in it. That is also a way of relating -- nothing wrong in it... a little strange, but nothing abnormal about it.

[The sannyasin says: But I can't relate, that's the problem: I cannot relate to people.]

You think that heterosexuals are relating? Who is relating? Everybody is in the same boat! Relating is a great problem -- you cannot relate unless you are rooted in your being... you cannot relate. It has nothing to do with relationship to the other; it has something to do with your inner integration.

Only an integrated person can relate, and the paradox is that he does not bother! An integrated person is not bothered about relating or not relating: if it happens, good; if it doesn't happen, it's good. He is happy with himself, his happiness does not depend on relationship... but only he can relate. And the person who is not self-integrated cannot relate, is continuously bothered about how to relate, and thinks that everything will be good if he can relate.

You have to come to your consciousness, and I am saying that the first requirement is: don't be disturbed too much about your ordinary life, don't create any obsession. If you feel to be homosexual, it is good; if it changes some day and you become heterosexual, that too is good. If you again become homosexual, that too is good. These are ordinary things, nothing worth being worried about. You need not force your attention on them -- they should be taken for granted.

If you eat this type of food, that is good; if you eat another type of food, that too is good. The problem is not there. For example, somebody comes and he says, 'I smoke a certain brand of cigarettes -- now this is my problem.' The brand cannot be the problem: you can change the brand of cigarettes, but the problem will remain the same. That is exactly the thing with the heterosexual and the homosexual: you just change the brand of the cigarette, nothing else.

The first and very fundamental thing is to accept the way you are so there is no need to be bothered about it, no more energy is to be put there. Once that has happened, your energy is available to move inwards. Then you can put your energy more into meditation, not into thinking about how to relate. How to be, let that be your problem: not how to relate... because you can relate only when you are. How can you relate? -- because you can relate only when you are. How can you relate when you are not?

A man came to Buddha -- he was a very rich man -- and he wanted to serve humanity. He wanted Buddha to bless him so that he could open many charitable institutions, hospitals, colleges, schools, and serve humanity. Buddha looked at him with deep compassion -- as if he were very sorry for the man. The man became a little embarrassed. and he said, 'Why are you looking at me as if I am in some trouble? I am not in any trouble -- I have enough money, don't be worried about that!' Buddha said, 'I am not worried about that... I am worried about how you can help humanity. You are not, so whatsoever you will do will be harmful. Please, first be, then only do something!'

So shift the emphasis. It has nothing to do with heterosexuality, homosexuality; nothing to do with it. I accept it as it is: It is good; don't make a problem out of it. If you make a problem out of it you will be continuously stuck there. Not making a problem of it means that now your energy is available, you can move somewhere else.

And relationship remains difficult.... Only a very few people who have come home can relate. Those who are rooted, grounded in their being, only they can relate; otherwise communication is difficult. In fact there is nothing to relate to, nobody to relate from. With whom are you trying to relate? You are not and the person you are trying to relate to is not -- just two ghosts trying to relate, trying to hug each other, and passing through each other because they are not; so the hugging never happens. They are shadows.... First become substantial. So please accept your homosexuality -- it is perfectly normal, nothing is wrong about it. And this is my feeling: once you have known the world of the homosexual, the world of the heterosexual will never appeal to you. There are a thousand and one reasons for it....

A man easily understands the language of the other man -- the woman has a different attitude about everything. If you cannot relate with a man, it will be more difficult to relate with women, because they don't speak the same language.

I used to stay with a family and I watched the problem. Both the husband and wife are good people, very good people, but are constantly arguing and nagging and constantly at the edge, never at ease. I watched them and I saw what the problem was: they were not speaking the same language. In fact no woman speaks the same language as the man -- cannot! And no man speaks the same language as the woman -- he cannot! They are different types of creatures.

When a woman wants to think about something she talks about it. When a man wants to think about something he keeps quiet. When a man is thinking and the woman comes and disturbs him -- for small things: she may ask 'Would you like to have another cup of coffee?' -- he is angry and he says, 'If I need, I will ask!'

Now, she was very loving and he is very blunt. On the surface it seems that it is very ugly of the man to rebuff her in that way, but what is happening inside? He was thinking about something -- now she brings a cup of coffee and disturbs his whole track of thought. He thinks only when he is silent, and when the woman wants to think, she talks -- that is her way of thinking: she thinks aloud.

A husband sitting silently looks as if he is angry or something, sad or something, and when the wife continuously talks the husband thinks, 'She never thinks! What is the matter? She just goes on talking -- never thinks. She has nothing to say and goes on talking!' Two different kinds of psychologies... so remember that. Once you are interested homosexually you have found a relationship which is easier, less challenging, less risky, with less conflict. That's why homosexuals are called 'gay' -- they are gay! Heterosexuals are always sad, there is always some problem or other.

Homosexuals are really gay, happy people -- they understand each other. If you understand yourself a little bit, you understand the other man you love. There is a great ' understanding between the persons... and it is so with lesbians.

A woman understands another woman. Once a woman is a lesbian it is very difficult to turn her energy into heterosexuality, very difficult because she relates well -- better -- with a woman. She understands her heart -- it is her own heart; they belong to the same world and the same dimension.

So once it happens it becomes very difficult to change. But I am not saying that there is any need to move to the other -- there is no need: accept it, nothing is wrong in it. Accept yourself totally and be happy the way you are.

[The sannyasin says: Really, I want to just get up and dance all the time.... But I feel very restricted.]

No, no, nobody is restricting you. Be gay!

                            1. Homosexuality is a sin in Islam and supporting it is to defy the Quran.

                            2. Under Islam public displays of homosexuality, incest, bestiality and other sexual deviant practises are not allowed but of course in terms of practicality there is not much a state can do in what goes on behind closed doors.

                            3. Western states are aggressively promoting homosexuality and bullying non-white countries that do not comply with the pro-homosexual agenda.

Some states have also legalized bestiality (animal sex) e.g in Denmark and it is popular in Germany.

                            4. The champions of homosexuality will however be vehemently against a man having more than one marital partner, though for a man to have more than one sexual partner is fine in their eyes.

A man having two sexual partners (e.g. two girlfriends or wife & mistress) is perfectly fine.

However a man having two women whom he must provide for financially and emotionally and whom he is married to must be criminalized for the homosexuality lobby.

                            5. Bangladesh is a Muslim country which has de facto defeated America in 1971 (3 years before the Vietnamese kicked the Americans out in 1974) and has never allowed any American or other foreign military base on its territory.

There are American soldiers and bases in Afghanistan, there are none in Bangladesh.

The Bangladeshi people will not allow the likes of money-shark M Yunus or Mizanur Rahman to peddle their homosexuality agenda in Bangladesh, and nor will they allow westernized elites (e.g. elites who study/studied in the west, live there and have embraced the homosexuality agenda) to do this.

                            We defeated the British.

                            We defeated the Americans.

Coming back to M Yunus, here is a good post about him in the comments section of a western newspaper by a Bangladeshi.

Nice article, but seems to be devoid of objective analysis. While the author has touched upon many rumors on circulation through different media on the issue, it fails to recognize the government's continuous support for Grameen bank's promotion and institutionalization over the years. Even though Grameen Bank was launched in 1976 at Jobra village of Chittagong, it did not get an institutional shape until Grameen Bank Ordinance was issued by the then Military Government in 1983. Notably, micro-finance did not flourish in many countries due to lack of government support. Sheikh Hasina, the current Prime Minister of Bangladesh claims to introduce Dr. Muhammad Yunus (hereafter "Yunus") and his micro-finance program in the First Global Micro-credit Summit in Washington in 1997 (of course, that time he was not as popular as he is today).

While talking about Grameenphone, as a success story of Grameen Bank initiatives, most critics of the government tend to overlook (intentionally!) that in 1996 the license was given to Telenor for free by the government on Yunus's request that the facility is meant for empowering rural women (where the term 'grameen' meaning rural came from). Telenor had to by its license in Pakistan for US$500 million, a fact, neither Telenor nor Grameen would ever acknowledge. According to Yunus, there was an understanding between Telenor and Grameen Telecom (GTC) that the former will hand over 62% of control on Grameenphone to GTC by 2005, which they refused creating a huge conflict with Yunus.

By 2005, using Yunus's rural network, Grameenphone became immensely profitable concern - too attractive for Telenor to honor any past agreement with him. Many doubt, the matter was somehow settled by facilitating Nobel peace prize for Yunus, engaging him as the Norwegian Foreign Ministry's special adviser for Micro-credit program in Africa and funding (subsidized) Grameen Bank. Yunus never made any noise over shareholding issue ever after !

The interest rate of Grameen Bank is always debated. The government approved interest rate for micro-credit is 27.50% - don't expect any micro-credit organization charging less than that. I don't know where a commentator found 16% interest rate of Grameen Bank in 1992.

The myth of lifting 50 million people out of poverty by Grameen Bank alone is also a 'joke'. Total population of Bangladesh is 150 million. One third of them lifted from poverty by Grameen alone is difficult to digest. If that is the case, what are other thousands of NGOs, Micro-finance institutions (notably, BRAC is much bigger micro-finance institutions than Grameen) doing? How about the huge Readymade Garment Industry that employs about 3 million women? What are 1 million Bangladeshi migrant workers contributing in the economy?

The reality is that each micro-credit borrower can borrow money from minimum 5 micro-finance institutions, something recently being monitored by micro-finance institutions. Previously, they could borrow from as many micro-finance institutions as possible. As a result, most of the loan recovery comes from a new borrowing, rather than the borrowers generating real income. Of course, there are handful of success stories too, which are visible in all micro-finance institutions' websites. They would never report failures, not surprisingly!

Passing of Micro-credit Regulatory Authority Act, 2006 have imposed certain governing criteria in terms of capital adequacy, interest rate, transparency etc. Before, that micro-finance institutions could run as they would wish, and charge any rate - allegedly up to 70%. There are reports of many micro-credit borrowers committing suicide or getting their chattels forfeited by the lenders and in most cases migrating to some other places under the cover darkness. No micro-finance institutions would ever report these incidents. Neither would they allow anybody to do a research on this area.

Many scholars often argue that if Grameen Bank goes under the Central Bank it would fail. Are they questioning the capability of the Central Bank of Bangladesh to regulate a micro-finance institution (which touted to be a bank), while it is successfully regulating all Banks, and non-bank financial institutions in the country? There might be counter-argument that Grameen bank is now too big to be governed by itself. It should be brought under some regulatory regime for better governance, transparency and accountability.

I find it distasteful when some writers squarely blame a government without much knowing the real situation and having their findings verified. Just one interview with Yunus, or based on some rumors and surmises they start criticizing a democratically elected government. I may please be excused for doubting their motives/interest or proper knowledge about something they are dealing with, which can have wider ramifications.

While the author nicely concluded Yunus's move to become the Prime Minister floating a party with blessings from the then army regime and CIA (popular belief in Bangladesh) as his effort to side by the people was completely trashed by the general people - please note that it had nothing to do with any party, because both the leaders were in Jail. Many Bangladeshis believe that Yunus was one of the pioneers of minus-2 formula, eliminating two popular leaders of Bangladesh and grabbing power, which did not happen because of a civil uprising against the military regime and getting the democracy back in the country.

Some people are also trying to lament Bangladesh as a fundamentalist Muslim country, where people like Yunus are not welcome! For your kind information, Bangladesh is governed by a secular constitution, even though 85% of its population are Muslims. Bangladesh is number one contributor in UN Peace Keeping mission. It is Yunus who apparently sided with Hefazot e Islam early this year in their efforts to topple the government and establish Sharia rules. I don't think, generally secular and peace-loving people of Bangladesh would ever let that happen.

Government is often blamed by many to remove Yunus from Grameen Bank. Again they fail to note that it was an action taken by the Central Bank. Instead of trying to resolve the issue with the government through a mutual discussion (perhaps, arranging for amendment of the law on the maximum age of a Managing Director of a bank), Yunus preferred a writ before the High Court Division, which was not successful. Then he went to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court that upheld High Court's decision. May I ask those critics to kindly enlighten me here what your government would have done in such a situation? Reinstate Yunus in contempt of superior court's decision? Perhaps, not. Perhaps, in an enabling environment, the law could be amended to Yunus's favor, still leaving a big question-mark on how much public value such an effort would have created. Public policy is generally not meant to safeguard one person or one institution's interest.

Yunus always claims that Grameen Bank is owned by rural women. Has any investigative journalists ever asked him how Grameen Bank has transformed from a small one-village project to a huge conglomerate today? What happened to its members? Are they a part of all commercial ventures Grameen Bank had undertaken, including, Grameen Bank, Grameen Shakti, Grameen-Denon, Insurance, Grameen Udyog, Grameen Trust, Grameen Distribution Ltd., and so many other profit-making concerns it boasts of now? Has grameen issued share certificates to any of them? Are they receiving dividends? Who is going to succeed Grameen Bank in the absence of Yunus? Hope someday, some courageous fellow would ask those questions and find a proper answer.
'What did I do wrong?': Why the banker who helped 50 million Bangladeshis out of poverty became his country

                              1. M Yunus' Grameen bank have been in cases which have led to suicide.

                              2. The ruling Awami League (which has instigated this recent campaign against Yunus) is not sincerely doing this due to love for Muslim values but because they see Yunus as a threat.

                              3. Bangladesh is a Muslim country with Hindu captains of the football team, Buddhist minister of industries, Buddhist (Chakma - a Mongoloid tribe) generals and ambassadors. We will not allow the pro-homosexual agenda to take hold in our country.

Also with a weakening US and western power countries such as Russia, China and others who are now emerging as major world powers are not champions of homosexuality either, the homosexual agenda will get weaker.
