My solution is to consider Zina(fornication and adultery) to be only the sex without consent. We can interpret Islamic injunctions in this way as zina bil jabar is never mentioned in Qur'an. Only Zina is mentioned and the only definition of zina can be forced sex.

This way young people can have love, sex and no fear of beheading and stoning. If millions of other people can do it why not Muslims? Why Muslim and Pashtun youth should suffer?
Highly entertaining commentary. Not sure whether this is an honest opinion triggered by militant secularist brain washing or just an attempt to "push the envelope."

I know one militant secularist personally, an entertaining one, who I once saw arguing with a moderate religionist by "pushing the envelope". They are usually on friendly terms. I sort of buffer the two when we get together to share a meal. The former decided to criticize and separate out Islamic history under the Caliphate of Omar from that of Abu Bakr and called salafists "The Umarites." He kept needeling until the religionist left peacefully (he paid for the meal to his credit). I asked the secularist why he had to needle so hard. His response was that he had no issue with Khalifah Umar and ascribed to the sunni school of thought, but the wanted to desensitize his friend to challenging discussions.

I suspect that is the attempt here, but on close examination both my friend (the militant secularist) and this commentary are stupidity laced.

I think RTR effectively neutered the "reinterpretation" which the Quran itself makes improbable. For instance Surah Nur relegates the fornicator into its own separate category that connotes premarital sexual contact that hinges on a consensual relationship having occurred and even still separates this subgroup out from amongst believers.

The thing to high light here is the contradictory approach taken by militant secularism.

    1) For instance, in another thread the concept of first cousins marrying was vehemently attacked despite the science pointing to extremely low rates of disease events in the recent publications.

    2) Yet here, what is implied is that a "safe sex" and "birth control" society will mitigate disease risk. Is that the case? A simple glance at the abstract of the report from the CDC shows that even in the "safe sex" society that allows for abortion and birth control there is the incidence of 20 million new STDs on a yearly basis. Note the report indicates "America's youth shoulder a substantial burden of these infections."

Just alone, the incidence of HIV infection (page 2) in the US population of 300 or so million far outweighs the incidence of disease associated with first cousin marriage estimated world round or noted in the British study of Pakistani first cousin marriages. Yet recall how Badlun cried to the hills about banning the practice etc etc etc and was insistent on that insignificant disease burden making it so that Islam was wrong and had to be modified. Lets see if the same angle is taken towards the militant secularist doctrines he espoused here.

Take a look at the transmitted HPV rates sky rocketing in the US. HPV is a cancer causer virus.

In general the report also links this to the secular issue of economic burden.... Cousin cousin marriages have cost the United States very little, in general the world health care system has been burdened very little since incidence of that relationship is higher in Africa and the mideast. Yet the approach Badlun advocates cost the US $16 Billion dollars.

Summary: Badlun's stupid approach (sorry but there is no other adjective to describe this) lacks both scientific, secular, and religious common sense. One can see that if his words are taken seriously then generally his opposition in light of the above contradictions in his thought only reconcile in one direction: his goal of opposing classical Islam as understood by theologians from all traditions and faiths and as understood by the Prophet Muhammad himself. I think he is generally baiting and need not be taken seriously; this was just an exercise to pass the time for me.

I understand what you are saying but what is then your alternative? At the age of 18 one should have sexual relations. Educational pursuits usually end at the age of 25 or more. Then you have search for job or some other source of earning. Then marriages are highly complicated and expensive so what a young man or woman will do from 18 to say 30 years of age? These are precious 12 years. Early marriages are again not a solution.

My suggestion is that Zina should be declared only forced sex. As marriage is sex with consent. Once you are a couple then the whole world is your witness. And what do you thing of Mutta marriage?

If we take some legal steps in these lines then such young lovers will not be beheaded. Society changes with new legal frameworks.
I think sometimes you need to seek a lot more education and schooling wrorra. I find it hard to believe you hold a degree beyond the University of Phoenix or some online diploma mill. The above statement is a perfect example of why.

So on the one hand militant secularists advocate the restructuring of society around biological and perhaps universal humanist mores.

Yet the biology would advocate such an approach to be nonsensical:

The ability to have sex and the labido express themselves at an even earlier age then a simple benchmark of 18. Labido often coincides with the initiation of puberty which occurs years before the age of 18. Remember the CDC report cites young Americans as the vector for STDs. Notice the second highest transmission rate group is 15-19 years of age. There is no sudden binary on off switch where the rates rocket up at 18 and are zero at age 17 years 364 days.

      http://www.cdc.gov/std/health-disparities/age.htm

Rates rise in the college age kids (but not by much) and the confounders there are probably the very controls you advocate against (unsupervised youth out of the presence of parental/authoritative inhibition and in a mixed environment).

So now we have to contradictory problems with the Islamic abrogation/militant secularist approach you advocate.

Lets examine, based on the evidence.

      1. You say that the permission to have sex or the goal? to have sex should be at 18. Yet humans, members of the primate family, are capable of having sex (and driven to do so) years before the set age of 18.

      2. The group that you advocate have lots of sex per that same CDC link has the HIGHEST transmission rates despite the safe sex advocacy of physicians (AMA, ID society of America, Planned Parenthood, TV information, widespread literacy, etc). That is the 20-24 years group (since they dont separate out of the distinct age of 18 we have to refer to this group).

This means that even being immersed in the educated environment of college is not enough to ensure safe sex practices in that specific age group rendering your approach foolhardy, not evidence based, and just plain stupid.

Note that a full ten percent of births in 2008 occurred in the < 20 years old age group and "A record four-in-ten births (41%) were to unmarried women in 2008, including most births to women in their early 20s. In 1990, 28% of births were to unmarried women."

      http://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2010/...an-motherhood/

Oops, it looks like biology goes against your approach (which is semi lunatic fringe ideological more than it is practical).

Regarding the rest, Khushal is pretty much correct regarding the fact that innate biological norms of human beings appear to be to mate gaurd in different ways. A part of this derives from the fact that humans are perhaps the unique primate in that they cannot "smell" the ovulation cycle of their mate. So once again the biological principles are not on your side.

Regarding early marriage "not being the solution" being the de facto statement is about as evidence based as the rest of your commentary.

Once again, please pursue a solid education in biological principles and read heavily on the realities of proposals before making assumptions. Otherwise, these embarrassing contradictions between secular militant gospel viewpoints and actual biological principles become glaringly apparent - making it hard for anyone to take this seriously.

If its meant for avant garde style fun, then I think you can see from the near unanimous rejective response you incurred (surprising even to me) that its not working.

First we miss yo here. Absence of a member like you is very much conspicuous.

Second I am really in search of some concrete solution for the problem of sexual relationship in the backdrop of modern day developments of first getting education, job then marriage and the restriction of religion on premarital sex.

Early marriage for me is not a feasible solution as marriage brings with it a lot of responsibilities including children and economic burden. Also marriage ceremonies, dowry, separate house or at least a room are prerequisites.

If sexual desire or libido occurs even before 18 years then this makes the scenario more complicated. Then we are talking of 15 years of youth marrying in the age of 15 years or waiting for 30 wasting 15 years of life.

HIV , STDs is a problem of not only US but also of many African Muslims and many other countries. It can be found in married and unmarried couples equally. Marriage is a solemn bond, not a vaccine against HIV. A girl friend and boy friend is also a couple without a formal bond. Yes promiscuity and no safe sex are real issues.

I agree to some extent - both in Western culture and Eastern culture the cost of getting married has sky rocketed due to lavish events and tasteless ceremonies. The true meaning of a marriage of two lives and a meeting of two souls for eternity is no longer what matters.

Society needs re-structuring. The problem's parameters and boundaries are not set. Human civilization has had revolutions/reformations etc.

HIV , STDs is a problem of not only US but also of many African Muslims and many other countries.

For often the same reasons though - its a neglect of proper biosocial roles.

They two were well aware of the consequences of their actions. In pashtunwali, thuggery was committed by the guy taking the woman from her home without permission of her guardians. If the guy wanted to marry her, then he should have gone through the proper channels, not take what he wanted.

                • Well aware or not; it's not your or anyone else's right to bully or threaten or punish someone for what they have a GOD GIVEN right to do. Marriage is a God Given right and it's a God GIVEN right to choose their spouses within the Islamic standards of morality.

This is one more reason why Pashtunwali is at ODDS with Islam.
