Serbia: Sulejman Ugljanin Urges Turkey To Continue With Projects Started
BELGRADE β Serbian Minister without Portfolio in charge of sustainable development of underdeveloped regions Sulejman Ugljanin appealed Friday to the Turkish government to continue to fund the projects it has started in Serbia.

βOn behalf of the Serbian government and all of our citizens, I expressed my appreciation for the donations and projects by TIKA (Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency) in Serbia,β Ugljanin told reporters in the Serbian government after a meeting he had with Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag.
He pointed out that the projects concern the fields of education, agriculture, culture, cultural heritage, employment and investment.
Bozdag said that he and Ugljanin had a productive meeting in which they discussed cooperation between the two countries, investments in Serbia, situation in the southwestern Serbian region of Sandzak, opportunities for investment in the region and everything that is needed to create favorable infrastructure for investment by Turkish businessmen.
We encourage businessmen from Turkey to invest in Serbia and in the region of Sandzak, Bozdag said, adding that he discussed the possibility of Turkey opening a consulate in Novi Pazar, the center of the Sandzak region, with Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic.
Bozdag added that as soon as he is back to Turkey, he will meet with the leadership of Halk Bank, one of the state-owned banks in Turkey, to see if they can open a branch in Sandzak.
TIKA will continue to cooperate with Serbia and the Turkish government will support the realization of the projects that have been started, especially in the 46 least-developed municipalities, said Bozdag.
He said that the Bosniak (Muslim) population in Turkey far outnumbers the Bosniaks in Sandzak and they represent a bridge of cooperation between the two countries, which is one of the reasons for the establishment of good bilateral relations between the two countries.

Muslims in Sandzak are fearful of Serb nationalism and being treated as second class citizens, they view a powerful Turkey as good for their own safety and survival.
