MONTREAL – The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) in Quebec has announced its official support for the “Manifesto for an inclusive Quebec” on Tuesday.
The non-partisan organization devoted to improving the quality of Jewish life in Canada is also calling on members of the Jewish community and Quebecers to endorse it.

The manifesto, which is critical of the proposed Charter of Values, has nearly 20,000 signatures, including support from journalists, politicians, actors, musicians, professors, school teachers and many other professionals.
“Tabloids and television news networks have oversimplified the debate, continuously portraying Montreal as besieged, inundated by unreasonable requests for accommodation from intransigent immigrants,” the manifesto reads.
“Over the years, they have instilled a genuine fear for the survival of the Quebecois identity in many of our fellow citizens. It is with regret that we observe that our government seeks to exploit this fear for electoral purposes.”
CIJA-Quebec said that by signing the manifesto, Quebecers are sending a clear message of opposition to the Quebec government.
“Freedom from discrimination based on religion, freedom of expression and freedom of association are fundamental. Any attempt to limit such freedoms must be reasonable and demonstrably justifiable. The government has failed to meet this test,” CIJA-Quebec noted in a statement.
“The proposed measures are unreasonable and are not supported by any research or credible data.”
1. Muslims and Jews are being targeted in different Catholic countries such as Poland and Quebec (not a country but a province to be pedantic).
However Muslims and Jews are treated with far greater respect in Protestant countries.
2. The French/Gallic world seems to be quite Islamophobic including Quebec.
3. In the long run if Quebec does ban freedom to wear religious items in public workplaces then it will suffer the most.
a: Quebec will be seen as an intolerant retrogressive society.
b: It will be shunned by many Muslims, Jews, Sikhs and others including in terms of economic investment.
c: To be Quebecois will carry a stigma with it in the rest of the world, especially the Muslim world and others.
