Hire Saudi women ... or lose your business

    LATEST STORIES IN Columns

Any store that does not meet the requirements of women's employment will be forced to shut down. The Ministry of Labor will start a nationwide campaign. Therefore, stores that sell abayas, women's lingerie, accessories, dresses, etc. have no choice but to employ Saudi women.

Such a campaign should lead to the hiring thousands of Saudi women who suffered years of joblessness due to unjustified social constraints. Earlier, men were the only occupiers of such jobs.

Now, as the Saudi media raised the issue, the religious answer was quick to come and was very supportive: ‘Nothing prevents women from selling their own goods.’ Thus, the decision came quick and vast.

This serious decision by the Saudi ministry should rule out any cat and mouse chase. For the Saudi government, women work is a must! Businessmen, chain store owners or small business runners are faced with one clear fact: It’s this, or losing their high revenue business.

Lol a saudi working? saudis are too lazy and fat to work. Just offer them a low salary and they will stay clear of applying for a job at your store.

Many Saudis are in fact poor and many work hard.

It's wrong to ridicule and mock them like that.

They know that their wealth will not last them forever. It's a positive move for their future but others seeking work in their country could suffer. Better than what we have in our countries for women. Stay home and have kids or have have your face destroyed with acid if not worse. Forget their rights and what not, imagine how that impacts afghans economically.

This policy is designed to avert the pressure from secularists and the liberal west from organizing a coup.

Same as their new mixed gender university.

            It's more complicated than that.

We have entered an age where virtually the whole globe is interconnected.

Something happens in country X and with my mobile phone I take a video, youtube it and then people from country Y can see.

Saudi is not immune to the global media as well as social media.

            - Saudis study abroad
            - Saudis work abroad
            - Saudis travel abroad

They see that there are other ways of living than the Saudi way.

There is also the economic problem of economic discontent and unemployment. The government needs to create jobs for its people.

There are also reformers and liberals within the royal family and they discreetly and politely lobby for social change.

...and yes, the Saudis are afraid of being overthrown in the long run if they can't satisfy their population.

contrary to the popular belief, many many saudi youth in the cities are totally westernized, following the latest western fashions in everything, they love everything American, I have lived there 14 years, so I know what I am talking about. People have this strange idea that Saudi is a holy land of very pious muslims, which is totally wrong. The is a underground struggle in saudi between westernized saudis, and ultra wahabhi extremists
