What i dont understand is that Pakistanis (Urdu speakers/Panjabis) think that everyone surrounding their country speaks urdo.

they think afghans speak urdu, iranians speak urdo, i dont know why. urdu is an indian language and pakis are indians too. only muslims. nd now we can see their traits of "muslimness" going away and their old hindu culture fadin in.

A few years ago before Obama, when Bush junior was US president, there was a website called "Muslims for Bush", run by Punjabis i.e. "American Pakistanis".

They said how Muslims should support Bush, referred to Islam and even had a section on their webpage for "learning Urdu".

        I was shocked.

Arabic is the language of Islam. Now, I am not an Arabophile and no fan of Arabs but the Quran is in Arabic and that is a fact.

Urdu is from the Ganges valley and to try and conflate Urdu with "Muslimness" is a joke.

Most of our political problems could be solved if we all had formal Fus-ha Arabic as our official formal language and our local language as our second language.

Nobody speaks fus-ha so it is not something specific to any Arab country. Plus, we could all maintain our own regional culture and language.

It would help us all to understand Qur'an better, plus we could have standardized education-language.

Ana atakallam al lughatul Arabee al fusha.

Ana la aqul bi'talaaqah wa lakin astat'eeu an attahaddath ma'an an naas was aqraa al jara'id wa afham al mawdooat, wa la afham kullul kalimaat

            Trans: I speak standard Arabic

I am not saying I speak it totally (bi talaaqah) but I can converse and understand the main content of newspaper articles though not every word.

Having said all that and having lived in an Arab country, Syria, and visited other Arab countries including Egypt, Saudi, Jordan, Lebanon etc the idea that speaking standard Arabic is the solution to all our problems is totally untrue.

The Prophet (solAllahu 'alahi wa sallam) and the pagan Quraish both spoke the best of Arabic but clashed. The early Muslims split in two factions e.g. Shia/Sunni despite speaking classical Arabic.

In Egypt they are Arabs and both sides know standard Arabic but this is not stopping them from killing each other.

By the way I met a Pakistani who was an "OK guy" but I got the impression he was a "dil dil Pakistani" type though a bit toned down. He made a big thing about being Muslim but had no interest in the fact that I knew Arabic the language of the Quran but was more concerned if I knew Urdu.

These guys mix their nationalism, culture heavily with religion and think Pakistaniyat = Islam = Pakistaniyat and to be opposed to it means you are a RAW (Indian intelligence) agent.

The language does not solve all our problems. You have to reread my post again in case you misunderstood it.

I believe that one single formal language can solve many problems. The reason why I believe this to be the case is because if you travel across the Muslim world, you will find that in most non-Arab countries, the fact that people don't know anything about the religion is often used as an instrument to fool people.

Yet, knowledge of the Arabic language does not solve all religious matters. But to a certain extent, we can get rid of some practices.

In matters of politics and judiciary, one standard formal language can help us from the natioanlist division among Muslims. in a society like Afghanistan where there are over 15 different languages, the Arabic language can setle the arguments once and for all.

Likewise there are other fields where we could lessen our problems or completely solve them by introducing Fusha as our formal language.

I like the fact that you speak Arabic.

I am studying Arabic on and off with my Afghan friend here in Holland. I have realized how liberating it is to know Arabic when you are studying Islam. There was a time when I would go to the masjid and fall asleep during the Khutbah because I couldn't understand a word of what was being said by the khateeb. Today, I can even listen to a surah of Quran without ever studying its tafseer before, and yet still understand what is being said.

I read and understand arabic text, hadeeth and aqwaal of 3ulema all because I know a little Arabic.

I would love to see more Muslims learning Arabic to realize how liberating it is to know Arabic.

The irony is that everyone here understood me.

Knowing different languages is a good thing, although it might stress your ego.

Of course Afghans know Urdu, like they also know Dari, and other regional languages.

                Even Hindi.

Now Afghans will start calling me a liar for saying they watch Indian movies.

I mean shiz, Shalwar Khurasani just posted a bollywood clip.

Proper Urdu is different from Hindi in terms of adjectives.

Allama Iqbal wrote in proper Urdu, which sadly is not used commonly as it is perceived as very formal.

Allama Iqbal Urdu Poem/ Ghazal Bale Jibreel - YouTube

Compare that with your bollywood clip.

Sadly today, people in parts of Pakistan, especially Karachi cannot even speak Urdu, without using English words.
