Ive read some reports where the USAF and Navy provided not only intelligence but actually bombed many targets for them. The Israeli Army accidently shot one of the AS Navy's ship and killed American sailors thinking it was an Egyptian Ship.

The Egyptian Army's view is that fighting Israel is the same as fighting the US, they can not be defeated militarily.

The Egyptians were under the impression that the soviets had their back the same way the US had Israel's back. Once Sadat realized the soviets could not counter the US in the Middle East, they knew it was hopeless and this realization put enormous pressure on Sadat to sign the peace deal with Israel. They abandoned pan Arabism(it was a failed theory from the start).
Sadam later realized the Soviets could not counter the US in the Middle East when the soviets basically stood helplessly on the sidelines during gulf war 1.

But I was never aware that the Israelis intentionally attacked the US ship. Why would they do that?
