Muslims pray for victims of Uttarakhand

SURAT: Having witnessed the devastation of 2006 floods in Surat, there was an immediate emotional connection with the victims of Uttarakhand disaster. Around 200 Muslims from Mithikhadi area of Limbayat area in Surat collectively prayed at Hazrat Jangalsha Baba Dargah on Saturday seeking peace for those who lost their lives in Uttarakhand. They also prayed for the safe return of all those who are stuck in the Himalayan state following the devastation caused by cloudbursts and flash floods.

Setting an ideal example of communal harmony, the group took out a rally in Mithikhadi that ended with the prayers at the dargah.

"It is an attempt to show our support to the families of the victims who have died or are trapped in calamity-hit areas. We can't help them personally but we can at least pray for them," Mohammad Aslam, a participant, said.

has the ground underneath those houses been washed away previously or they were built like that? it doesn't seem like much of a safe place to build a house in..

its cause of deforestation around the affected area...As Trees responsible for holding the clay/sand together in the case of flooding preventing a mud flood.. ..also newly built dams contributed a lot in damage to the mountainous environment...
