Great, a place where afghans can heal themselves while being used as cannon fodder against their own people for the good of a foreign power.

how far we have come! huzzah
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

^ Everything from the Centcom website is a part of the COIN strategy, it is so-called Influence.

The information function comprises intelligence (required to gain understanding), and influence (to promote the affected government’s cause). It is essential that the influence campaign is in tune with the strategic narrative, resonates with the relevant audiences, is based on genuine resolve by the affected government and that physical actions match. What makes COIN different from other stabilization and humanitarian tasks is that both elements of the information function will be conducted in stark competition with the insurgents’ own information functions.

          Sky Is The Limit

One of many achievements in the past decade has been women’s participation in Afghanistan’s Air Force. 2nd Lieutenant Nilofar Rahmani is the first female pilot graduate to be trained in the Afghan Air Force in more than 30 years. The 21 year old graduated with 8 other pilots in a ceremony at Shindand Air Base in Herat province and was awarded her pilot wing on May 14th. The graduates were all trained by U.S. Air Force instructors. Lieutenant Rahmani is a prime example of changes taking shape in the country, not only overcoming vigorous pilot training but also cultural resistance. Congratulations on her accomplishment and hope her story will inspire others to follow their goals and dreams.

            Milestone 2013

Congratulations to the Afghan nation on entering the final phase of security transition in Afghanistan. General Joseph Dunford, Commander of ISAF, in a press release said, “On this historic occasion, the Afghan people take a monumental step forward as the Afghan National Security forces take the lead for security across the country. No longer are the Afghan people reliant on coalition forces to provide security. Afghan soldiers and police are now protecting fellow Afghans.” Gen Dunford, in his statement, also emphasized the commitment of the international community to the people of Afghanistan and that it will remains resolute and enduring.

I hope the history of former USSR is not repeated as Taliban are not completely crushed and even they are emerging as a parallel power in Qatar.

It would be amazing if foreign forces are withdrawn and Afghan forces are in full control of the country and Taliban are annihilated for ever or they renounce terrorism and extremism and join main stream politics.

Afghan National Forces are a source of pride for all Afghans. They are the sons and daughters of a proud nation willing to put their lives on the line to protect their country and their people. Why would you call them a “pet project”? Ten years ago there were no Afghan national security forces, now there are 350,000 men strong and every day we see how competently they handle complex attacks defeating the enemies, defending and protecting their people.

Furthermore, as General Dunford stated, “the gains that we have made to date are not going to be sustainable without continued international commitment. We must develop the procedures and institutions necessary to sustain a modern national army. The continued presence of the international community politically, in development, and in security is necessary to sustain the progress that we have made over the last few years.”

Let me ask you Randolph, do you want to see Afghanistan regress? Do you think without a strong, well trained national army, and without the support of the international community Afghanistan will sustain itself politically, militarily, and economically?

                    Badlun,

Foreign forces are withdrawing and Afghan forces are already leading operations across the country. And the US will certainly not abandon Afghanistan. On the contrary, US officials have made it clear that we will be in Afghanistan post 2014, but our mission will be one of training, advising, and assisting Afghan forces. General Dunford has stated while “we have made significant progress, we are not yet at the point where it is completely sustainable. That is the focus of effort over the next 18 months. And that is why we need to start now – especially with Afghan security forces – to talk about 2018, not 2014. That period of time will allow these gains to be sustainable.”

As for the Taliban, it is a priority of the US as we proceed with negotiations that there will be the need for Taliban to completely and verifiably break with terrorism. US officials have said repeatedly that the Taliban must end violence, break ties with al Qaeda and accept Afghanistan’s constitution.

                        ANA Commando, LT Naser Sirat

Every day we witness the progress of Afghan National Forces conducting security operations throughout the country successfully. For most soldiers it is the love of country that compels them to serve and protect their people. Here is the story of one soldier among thousands sharing what inspires him to serve. Afghan National Army commando, Lt. Mohammad Naser Sirat serves as the commander of a special operations unit at the School Of Excellence on Camp Morehead.

He says, “From the time that Afghan Security Forces were created, especially our Special Forces unit, it made the conditions right for our children to go to school, for businessmen to build factories and high-rise apartments, make mosques, schools, clinics, roads, irrigation projects. These things have been made so the people of our country can carry on with their lives in a peaceful environment. I want to help make the conditions right for social and economic development." For Sirat, a hero is a person who defends his country, brings peace to the country and defends the sovereignty of the country. Now, he has the chance to be that hero.

Sirat and his fellow Afghan Soldiers and police officers assumed the lead for security responsibilities for all of Afghanistan in June 2013. LT Sirat is one example of tens of thousands of soldiers who put their lives on the line every day. For Soldiers like Sirat, it's a chance for Afghans to bring peace and stability to the country they love and cherish.

                          Afghan National Forces

Afghan National Forces continue to demonstrate success and capability when conducting their missions, but that is not where it stops. In addition to securing the country, they also, and especially in this holy month of Ramadan, provide humanitarian assistance to the people. One of the tenements of Islam calls for respect for elders and increased charitable acts throughout the month of Ramadan. This month soldiers from the 203rd Corps provided much needed humanitarian assistance to the people who were affected by severe flooding that destroyed thousands of acres of farmland back in May. In this picture a soldier with 1st Brigade, 203rd Corps, of the Afghan National Army helps a disabled elder at the Monduzzi District Center in Khowst. Afghan soldiers are the pride of their nation.
