NATO Fighter Jet Crashes in Afghanistan
Kabul, Apr 5 (Prensa Latina) An F-16 jet of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) crashed during a night flight operation in a mountain area in eastern Afghanistan and its pilot died in the incident, confirmed a NATO official statement today.
NATO will open an investigation on the incident. The report refrained from mentioning the place of the crash, though it refers to the finding of the wreckage of the fighter jet.
According to the military release, there was no insurgent action in the area, but it is not ruled out that the jet was targeted by some antiaircraft device.
The F-16 accident is a rare case in Afghanistan, where helicopters are easier to target by the armed opposition's technical means.
